Hand 1

Xixiang Luo opened the action with a raise from the button and Tomas Macnamara three-bet to 180,000 from the small blind. Luo four-bet shoved and Macnamara folded.

Hand 2

Macnamara raised to 50,000 from the button and Dmitry Yurasov three-bet to 150,000 from one seat over, again Macnamara let go.

Luo then raised the next two hands to 50,000 respectively 51,000 and claimed the blinds and antes.

Ole Schemion Eliminated in 13th Place (€25,030)

Aliaksei Boika opened the action to 60,000 in early position, Mats Karlsson three-bet to 160,000 from the cutoff and Ole Schemion quickly moved in for 412,000 on the button. Boika folded and Karlsson asked for a count, indicating he didn't have a premium hand.

With the price being too good for Karlsson to fold, he reluctantly committed the extra chips to put Schemion at risk.

Ole Schemion: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Mats Karlsson: {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Schemion was in a prime position to double up again, but it wasn't meant to be. The {3-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{A-Hearts} board gave Karlsson a straight on the river to knock out Schemion. The "Schemion-slayer" finished what he started yesterday, and the German juggernaut was eliminated in 13th place.

Benjamin Pollak Eliminated in 14th Place (€25,030)

Niveau 23 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Benjamin Pollak

The action started right away on the outer table. In the first hand of the day, Peter Ockenden opened to 55,000. From the small blind, Benjamin Pollak moved all in and it was over to Xixiang Luo in the big blind.

Luo, moved all in for slightly less and Ockenden folded.

Xixiang Luo: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Benjamin Pollak: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

It was a race and Luo needed to hit to survive. He paired his ace on the {Q-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop and Pollak was in bad shape.

The Frenchman couldn't improve on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {4-Clubs} river. Luo doubled his 569,000 stack and gained some extra from Ockenden raise. Meanwhile, Pollak was left with only 32,000 chips.

The next hand, Daniele Colautti opened to 50,000 and Pollak moved all in. Again, it was Luo who was getting involved. He raised to 150,000 and that was enough to squeeze Colautti out.

Pollak had {K-Hearts}{7-Spades} and was behind against the {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} from Luo. The {6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop gave Pollak a straight draw but he never got there when the {5-Hearts} and {2-Clubs} landed on turn and river.

Pollak is out in 14th place, which earns him €25,030. Meanwhile, Luo moves up really quick on the leaderboard.

In the second hand of the day, Aliaksei Boika raised to 55,000 from the cutoff. Ole Schemion shoved 182,000 from the small blind and Boika immediately called.

Ole Schemion: {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Aliaksei Boika: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Schemion paired his four on the {10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, giving him some additional outs. The {8-Clubs} on the turn opened up a flush draw as well, and the {2-Clubs} on the river completed Schemion's backdoor flush. The German now has 17 big blinds.

Welcome to Day 5 of the 2016 EPT Malta €5,300 Main Event

2014 PCA Winner Dominik Panka Sits In Third Place
2014 PCA Winner Dominik Panka Sits In Third Place

After four days of playing at the 2016 PokerStars.com EPT Malta Main Event, a field of 468 players has been whittled down to just 14. Each of the remaining players is already guaranteed a share of at least €25,030 out of the €2,269,800 prize pool, but the sights are set on the first place price of €355,700, which will be handed out to one of them on Saturday in Casino Portomaso. It's a diverse field that's left, with eleven different countries represented among the final fourteen.

Today, a short day is expected as the field will play down from 14 to 6. Chipleader is Sweden's Mats Karlsson, who resides here in Malta. Karlsson will start the day with 2,033,000 in chips. Yesterday, on his way to the chiplead, Karlsson clashed multiple times with with former chipleader Ole Schemion, coming out on top each time.

In the hunt are familiar names, as Dmitry Yurasov (1,709,000), 2014 PCA winner Dominik Panka (1,411,000) and Aliaksei Boika (1,195,000) are having big stacks to work with. Two PokerStars qualifiers are also on incredible runs, as Peter Ockenden (1,059,000) and Bastian Dohler (1,033,000) turned their investments of respectively €27 and €10 into already massive paydays.

The field is rounded out by Elie Saad (1,089,000), Tomas Macnamara (943,000), Louis Cartarius (879,000), Daniele Colautti (697,000), Benjamin Pollak (605,000), Xixiang Luo (572,000), Marco Bartolini (550,000) and Ole Schemion (214,000), who will need to spin it up from nine big blinds.

Play will resume at 12 P.M. local time. The blinds will start as 12,000/24,000 with a 4,000 ante and will feature a maximum of five 90-minute levels. Play will presumably be halted earlier as we reach our final six, but plans are subject to change. Follow all the action live on PokerNews.com throughout the day.
