EPT Prague: Livshitz chipleader d'une finale à 5, Pobal et Szecsi en têtes d'affiche !

Niveau 28 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Gaby Livshitz

At noon local time, twelve players out of 1,154 entries returned to the tables in the Hilton Prague to play down to the final table of the 2019 EPT Prague Main Event. After almost four full levels, five players will return for the nitty-gritty on Day 6 to battle for a bigger share of the gigantic €5,596,900 prize pool as all of them are guaranteed at least €241,230. But they will all have their sights set on the glittering shard of success (the trophy) and the first-place prize of €1,005,600 that accompanies it.

The third-biggest ever EPT Prague Main Event attracted players from all over the world and this is clearly reflected in the final five players. As a matter of fact, the top fifteen players all hailed from different countries. But on the final table it will be Israel, Brazil, Hungary, Belarus, and Portugal who will be sending a player each to compete for all the bragging rights.

Coming into the final day is Gaby Livshitz with 11,205,000 in chips which are worth a whopping 112 big blinds. The money he has already locked up beats his previous record he penned down last month in Cyprus for $110,110 and he could possibly almost ten-fold it by winning the Main Event. Livshitz is followed by Ricardo Da Rocha with 7,925,000. Closing out the podium is Norbert Szecsi with 7,350,000. The Day 4 chip leader crushed all day long and was ahead of the pack for most of it until the latter stages when Livshitz took over.

The final five players are rounded out Mikalai Pobal (4,740,000) and Tomas Paiva (3,380,000). Pobal still has a shot at becoming the second-ever two time EPT champion after winning EPT Barcelona in 2012 while Paiva is trying to better his sixth-place finish in the €10,300 High Roller here in Prague last year.

Rapid Eliminations

When the shuffle-up-and-deal-signal was given to the dealer, it was also the go-ahead for some fast-paced action. Only a few minutes after sitting down, Vlastimil Pustina was sent packing already when Szecsi put him at risk in a blind versus blind battle. Pustina’s queen-ten couldn’t beat king-seven and he was the first to go to the payout desk to collect €55,690 which easily surpassed his biggest live cash ever.

A mere 15 minutes later, Erdal Gusleven executed a wrongly timed bluff on the king-seven-deuce rainbow flop by shoving in a three-way pot with jack-nine suited. He was looked up by Szecsi who had a pair of queens. No help came as the creative Turk was eliminated in eleventh place for €62,070 which more than doubled his lifetime live poker tournament earnings. But that didn’t mean things slowed down just yet, the 2014 PCA Main Event champion, Dominik Panka bubbled the unofficial final table when he ran his ace-ten into the ace-king of Da Rocha.

Cooler to Go Eight-Handed

With an average of 96 big blinds and almost 38 minutes left in the level, the nine remaining players resumed play. But it would only take 30 minutes before a bad beat would take Gab Yong Kim out of the game. He had five-bet shoved with aces and was called by Szecsi who held queens. The three diamonds on the flop gave Szecsi the flush draw which he completed on the river to send the South-Korean player away in total disillusion. He was able to get some sympathy from Bertrand “Elky’ Grospellier who came up to him as soon as he saw Kim was standing at the payout desk to collect his prize money.

From Eight to Five Players

It would take almost six hours before play would end on the penultimate day. Laurent Michot was the shortest stack but got even shorter when Pobal flopped the higher pair. In the second level of the day, Szecsi pulled off a bluff against Pobal to get him to fold the better hand. Michot doubled up through Dietrich Fast with ace-jack while the latter had queens. Fast then saw his stack dwindle down, even more, when he made the wrong call against Livshitz to then crash out in eighth place when Pobal flopped a Broadway with Fast holding a mere pair of kings. The chips went in on the turn to send the sympathetic German to the rail in the end.

Thirty minutes later, Michot’s run was over when he called the shove of Livshitz on the queen-nine-six-eight-deuce board with ace-queen. Unfortunately for him, Livshitz held jack-ten for the turned straight. Michot walked away with his biggest live cash ever in a poker tournament.

Play would initially end when there were six players left but the level would be played out before the remaining players could bag up their chips. Livshitz took over the chip lead after clashing with Szecsi but it also spelled the end of the road for Luke Marsh when all the chips went in on the king-six-trey-nine-six board. Marsh had hit top pair and improved to two pair on the river but Da Rocha had turned a flush in the three-way pot with Pobal. After a deep run at the beginning of this year at the PSPC, Marsh boosted his lifetime career earning to well over the $1 million-mark with this result here in Prague.

Plan for the Final Day

The five returning players will continue to play on December 17. Apparently a 2-minute silence will be observed in the Czech Republic at noon to honor the victims of a hospital shooting in the eastern part of the country. Once that has been observed, players will resume play with Level 29 which features a small blind of 50,000, big blind of 100,000, and a big blind ante of 100,000. A 20-minute break will take place after every level and level duration will remain at 90 minutes until three players are left. Level duration will then be reduced to 45 minutes and play will continue until a winner has been crowned.

This is what is left to play for:

Luke Marsh Eliminated in 6th Place (€177,420)

Ricardo Da Rocha opened the action with a raise to 180,000 from under the gun with the {a-Spades}{10-Spades} and Mikalai Pobal in the small blind glanced at the {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}. He opted to call and Luke Marsh in the big blind filled up with the {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

The flop brought {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} and Marsh hit top pair while Da Rocha had the nut flush draw. Pobal and Marsh checked, Da Rocha bet 180,000 and Pobal called, as did Marsh.

Da Rocha improved to the nut flush on the {9-Spades} turn and Pobal checked to Marsh, who checked as well. Da Rocha used a time bank extension and fired a second bet worth 425,000 into a pot of 1,160,000, prompting an instant fold from Pobal.

Now it was up to Marsh to use a time bank extension and he then made the call after an additional 30 seconds of consideration with just 1,460,000 behind.

The {6-Hearts} on the river paired the board and Marsh checked the third street in a row. Da Rocha announced all-in and that sent his opponent into the think tank once more. Marsh required an additional two time banks and called in the very last hand of the night to become the 6th place finisher, taking home €177,420 for his efforts.

All remaining five players will now bag and tag for the evening, they will return to their seats on the feature table at noon the following day to play down to a champion.

Marsh Gets Shorter; Livshitz Climbs Further

Niveau 28 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Ricardo Da Rocha made it 180,000 to go with the {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} from under the gun and Tomas Paiva three-bet to 650,000 with the {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} to win the pot right there.

Paiva opened to 180,000 with the {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Gaby Livshitz kept up his aggression as of late with a three-bet to 500,000, holding the {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. That won the pot for Livshitz, who further pulled away at the top of the leaderboard.

Luke Marsh raised the button to 190,000 with {a-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Da Rocha three-bet to 750,000 with {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} in the small blind. Marsh checked his remaining stack and used a time bank before electing to fold.

Livshitz and Szecsi Clash in Bigger Pot

Niveau 28 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Ricardo Da Rocha opened to 180,000 with the {a-Spades}{2-Spades} and Norbert Szecsi called with the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} on the button. Gaby Livshitz in the small blind held the {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and three-bet to 750,000, which forced a fold from Da Rocha. Szecsi, however, made the call and the two chip leaders headed to the {j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop.

Livshitz continued for 625,000 for one third of the pot and Szecsi stared at his opponent, then made the call.

The {10-Diamonds} followed on the turn and Livshitz now took advantage of another time bank extension before firing a second barrel worth 1,700,000, which forced a fold from Szecsi.

Livshitz Takes Over the Lead

Niveau 28 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

In a limped pot to the {q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop, Norbert Szecsi flopped top pair with {q-Hearts}{2-Clubs} while Gaby Livshitz only had the {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. They checked to the {2-Diamonds} turn on which Szecsi check-called a bet of 225,000. After the {6-Diamonds} river, Szecsi checked again and that prompted a bet of 425,000 by Livshitz.

Szecsi immediately placed a time bank card in front of his cards and opted to fold.

Gaby Livshitz opened the action with a raise to 160,000 with the {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Laurent Michot called with the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}, Tomas Paiva filled up from the big blind with the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The flop brought {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Paiva checked, Livshitz bet 225,000 and Michot quickly called, as did Paiva after very brief consideration. Livshitz improved to the nuts on the {8-Clubs} turn and Paiva checked.

Livshitz bet 875,000 into a pot of 1,275,000 and Michot made the call with 1,860,000 behind, and Paiva folded instantly.

After the {2-Diamonds} river, Livshitz checked out the stack of his opponent and used a time bank extension. He then moved all-in and Michot now carefully counted his remaining stack, turned around to check the tournament info screen and used his last time bank before making the call.

Michot's run ended in 7th place for €134,610 and Livshitz closed the gap to chip leader Norbert Szecsi.

Paiva Four-Bet Jams; Da Rocha Takes Two

Niveau 28 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Tomas Paiva raised to 180,000 {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Norbert Szecsi three-bet to 640,000 in the small blind with the {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Paiva four-bet jammed for 3,085,000 and Szecsi instantly folded.

Ricardo Da Rocha raised to 180,000 with the {a-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Mikalai Pobal called with the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} in the big blind. The {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop gave Pobal a gutshot and he checked, Da Rocha bet 400,000 into a pot of 480,000 and that did the trick to force a fold from his opponent.

Da Rocha limped the small blind with the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and Pobal limped too with the {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Laurent Michot checked with {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}. On the {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, Pobal bet 150,000 and Da Rocha was the only caller to see the {10-Hearts} on the turn. Pobal now checked and Da Rocha made it 400,000 to go as Pobal stuck around.

The {2-Clubs} river was checked by Pobal and Da Rocha used a time bank before leading for 800,000 into a pot of 1,420,000. A near-instant fold of Pobal followed and Da Rocha climbed up to more than five million in chips.
