Mikhail Shalamov
Mikhail Shalamov

Aleksandr Denisov must have heard Vadim Baranov stacking up his chips on the neighbouring table as he's just put in a late surge to secure himself the chip lead for the second day straight.

Holding {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} he sent Mikhail Shalamov to the rail in the last hand of the night when the Team PokerStars Online member's {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} couldn't catch up on a {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board.

Players are now bagging up. Stay tuned for a full recap of the day's play.

Klaus Haunschmidt is down and out after getting his chips in preflop with {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. Two players called and then checked all the way to the river. At showdown with the completed board showing {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, they turned over their cards...

Aram Vartevanyan: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Sergey Frizyak: {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Klaus Haunschmidt: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Though the preflop favourite, Haunschmidt couldn't hold to the river and is the last player to be eliminated who doesn't make a return on his investment.

Chop on the Bubble

Niveau 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Nikolay Plastinin
Nikolay Plastinin

Nikolay Plastinin opened to 10,000 and, spying some short stacks, Aleksandr Sheshukov three-bet all in from the button. The blinds folded and Plastinin called.

The hands at other tables were completed and the cards were turned over.

Nikolay Plastinin: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Aleksandr Sheshukov: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Plastinin was all in for roughly 150,000 and looked good for a double up. The television cameras around the table to see a {10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} board spread, and with neither player holding a diamond they chopped it up.

Aleksandrov Takes the New Chip Lead Followinng Huge Clash with Zhang

Niveau 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Mikhail Aleksandrov
Mikhail Aleksandrov

It is all going on here at Casino Sochi as the Main Event draws ever closer to the bubble.

Just now three players were in on the flop with {j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} down. The player in the small blind checked and Mark Zhang who was in early position did the same. Mikhail Aleksandrov bet 13,000 and Zhang and the small blind called. Back on Zhang and he raised it up to 45,000, which both of his opponents called.

The turn was an action-inducing {j-Spades} and it was checked to Aleksandrov who bet 66,000. This was enough to convince the small blind to fold but Zhang wasn't done and moved all in. It was a snap from Aleksandrov and no wonder as he had the nuts at that point.

Mikhail Aleksandrov: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Mark Zhang: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Zhang needed a king to win or a ten to chop the pot but it wasn't to be, with the dealer laying down a {7-Hearts} on the river and Aleksandrov takes a huge pot.

"Birds of a feather flock together"

Seated at Table 16 are Mikhail Aleksandrov and Mark Zhang, both of whom have over 400,000 in chips.

Meanwhile at Table 17, start-of-day chip leader Aleksandr Denisov was standing up seemingly in a state of faux shock as Dmitry Yurasov was moved to his table. Between them the pair have well over one million in chips and the two exchanged light-hearted words back and forth before Denisov resumed his seat.

Other big stacks around the tournament room include Serafim Kovalevskiy, Viktor Ustimov and Matous Houzvicek.

PSPC Champion Colillas Eliminated

Niveau 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Ramon_Colillas

After one player limped, action folded to PSPC Champion Ramon Colillas who raised all in for around 50,000. Mark Zhang was in the big blind and called and the initial limper folded.

Ramon Colillas: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Mark Zhang: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Colillas was ahead but the ace on the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop was not what he wanted to see. The turn was the {a-Hearts} and he failed to hit his two outer on the {2-Diamonds} river and he was eliminated.

Two-Time EPT Final Tablist Radzivonau Out

Niveau 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Kiryl Radzivonau (left)
Kiryl Radzivonau (left)

Kiryl Radzivonau has a good history of making deep runs in EPT Main Events. In 2014 he finished sixth in Barcelona, and followed that up two years later with an eighth-place finish in Prague.

He finished a credible 32nd in the EPT Sochi Main Event last year, but unfortunately won't be going deep this year as he has just been eliminated at the hands of Tatyana Barausova.

Radzivonau held {a-}{k-} but failed to overcome the {6-}{6-} of his opponent and was eliminated.

Denisov Unstoppable?

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Day 2 is only halfway through its first level and already Aleksandr Denisov has been making waves in the cardroom.

First, he got it all in preflop with {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} vs Aleksandr Nemtsov's {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Mikhail Kovalyuk's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and flopped {6-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for quads. There were a few chuckles as it happened and Kovalyuk and Nemtsov were already shaking hands when the {7-Clubs} turn and {6-Diamonds} river were dealt. This put Denisov up to 535,000.

Then he four-bet Yang Wang preflop and took it down with a flop continuation bet, which won him even more chips to add to the pile that is growing in front of him.
