Another massive field was expected on Day 1e of the €1,100 Eureka Main Event of the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour at the Hilton Prague. And a massive field there was, as 1,511 runners were recorded today.

In total, the six flights combined generated 4,403 entries in this Main Event, exceeding last year's 4,017 entrants and creating a prize pool of €4,226,880. The final flight is still underway.

On Day 1e, 227 players made it to Day 2, and the money, as they bagged chips when 15% of the field remained. But only one of them had more than 100 big blinds at the end of the day, with Mengshi Tian finishing as the chip leader with 889,000 chips. Thanks to his massive stack, he even took over the current overall chip lead. The podium is completed by Michel Karim (669,000), and by 2022 EPT Monte-Carlo FPS runner-up Fabio Peluso (622,000).

Other big stacks include Candido Cappiello (431,000) and Pablo Silva (335,000), as well as David Docherty. The PokerStars UKIPT Player of the year will be back on Day 2 with 305,000 chips and will be looking to win a third title in 2023.
He will have to fight hard as players like Tomas Patka (230,000), who already finished second of an Eureka Main Event and third of an FPS this year, Alessandro Pichierri (207,000) and Daniel Koloszar (141,000) will be in his way on Day 2, with more or less of an average stack.

French PokerStars commentator Benjamin "Benny" Bruneteaux (101,000) will also be back on Day 2, with a single 1,000 chip more than George Chiriac (100,000). Walter Treccarichi bagged almost half this stack (65,000), but still has a lot compared to Matthias Kribben and his... 5,000 chips!

David Docherty

While Kribben did manage to reach the money, it was not the case for Marle Spragg, Benjamin Spragg, Antoine Saout, William Kassouf, Niall Farrell, Aliaksandr Shylko, Julien Brecard, Vivian Saliba, Jules Dickerson, Simon Wiciak and more than 1,000 other players that took a shot at Day 1e.

For the other 227 survivors of this flight, Day 2 will kick off tomorrow Saturday, December 9 at noon local time. The payouts will be announced at the beginning of the day.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as reporters follow the event through the starting flights and all the way down to a winner.

No Bubble Needed; Justin Tsui Out of the Money

Niveau 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Players were waiting for the hand-for-hand play procedure to start when an all in and call situation occurred on Table 23.

Justin Tsui in early position was the player at risk for 59,000, and faced Ville Jantunen on the button.

Justin Tsui: AQ
Ville Jantunen: 33

Tsui stood up after the dealer fanned a flop of 583 which gave a set to Jantunen. After the turn Q, he even hit quads on the river 3, sending Tsui to the rail.

Panetti Eliminated

Niveau 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

The action folded around to Kirill Burtin in the small blind and he announced all-in. Christophe Panetti was in the big blind with only about 14,000 total. He tanked for a couple of minutes, and once time was called he made the call.

Christophe Panetti: A2
Kirill Burtin: 22

The KJ52J run out gave Burtin a full house to eliminate Panetti and start the hand-for-hand process.

Docherty Applies Pressure on the Bubble

Niveau 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

David Docherty opened in the lowjack to 16,000. He got two callers, one from Antonino Venneri on the button and one from the big blind.

The flop came 484. The big blind checked, before folding to a bet of 12,000 from Docherty. Venneri called and it went two ways to the turn.

A 5 landed, to which Docherty shoved all in while covering Venneri. The Italian thought for a couple minutes, but two away from the money proved too much to call.

He tabled KJ. Docherty showed the K7 and said 'You weren't going to call anyway.'

Asgoudakis Eliminated Close to the Money

Niveau 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Emmanouil Asgoudakis shoved for 26,000 from middle position, and he was called by Michal Zubek in the big blind.

Emmanouil Asgoudakis: K3
Michal Zubek: K9

Zubek hit a pair on the 7109, leaving Asgoudakis with almost no hope to double up. The turn 6 and the river 5 confirmed this fact, so Asgoudaki was eliminated close to the money.

Chip Leader Tian Cracks Kings

Mengshi Tian

Colm Chan opened 16,000 under the gun and only Mengshi Tian who is currently chip leading made the call from the big blind.

The dealer spread a flop of J102, and Tian check-called a bet of 15,000.

The J paired on the turn and both players tapped the table to see the 7 fall on the river.

Tian checked for a final time as Chan pushed a stack of blues for a bet of 65,000, and Tian instantly called without hesitation. Chan tabled KK, which was no good against Tian's J4.
