Shashikhina Tops Day 1c; Isaia and Ricci Among the Big Stacks

Niveau 9 : 1,200/2,500, 2,500 ante
Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina
Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina

The third and penultimate starting day of the 2021 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS North Cyprus $5,300 Main Event has concluded and 102 players out of 184 entries have secured a stack for Day 2 in the flagship tournament of the festival. While it was the slowest of the three flights at the five-star Merit Crystal Cove Hotel Casino & Spa in Girne, North Cyprus, it has ensured that the $3 million net guarantee is already in eyesight.

A close battle for the Day 1c chip lead propelled Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina to the top of the leaderboard with 499,000 in chips, followed by Alessio Isaia (471,000) and Ran Azor (455,500). Artan Dedusha turned a late entry after the second and final break into a top ten stack and he is joined among the bigger stacks by $10,500 High Roller finalist Iakov Onuchin, Kasparas Klezys, Andrea Ricci, and Piotr Nurzynski.

partypoker sponsored pro Joni Jouhkimainen also made it through with an above-average stack of 229,500 while notable casualties included the likes of Roberto Romanello, Christophe Panetti, $2,200 Warm Up finalist Matthieu Chan, Ahadpur Khangah, Miltiadis Kyriakides, and Anas Belatik.

Khangah and Kyriakides were eliminated in the most memorable hand of the day when a spectacular four-way preflop all-in resulted in a double-knockout for Ran Azor and quadruple up for Christophe Panetti in the final level of the day. However, $10,500 third-place finisher Panetti didn't make it through either despite this after bowing out against Azor during the last hands.

Shashikhina started her rise on the leaderboard when winning a flip against Mustafa Biz and also knocked out Romanello during the final stages. Another Russian needs little introduction as rising star Artur Martirosian was also in the mix on Day 1c. While splashing around the chips in his fingers, he was also involved in higher stakes cash game action on his phone and barely glanced up while he doubled with aces versus kings in a big pot. After nine levels of play, Martirosian finished with 300,000 and well above the average.

All players that failed to earn a stack for Day 2 so far can enter the turbo heat 1d with levels of 25 minutes each as of 8pm local time. Furthermore, the late registration also remains open for another three levels the following day when all Day 1 survivors combine to one field for the first time. The crown jewel of the festival in North Cyprus will then play down to the money en route to determining a winner on Monday, September 27.

Stay tuned for all the action from the return of the MILLIONS tour as the PokerNews team will provide as many key hands as possible in the days to come.

Quadruple Up for Panetti; Double Knockout for Azor

Niveau 9 : 1,200/2,500, 2,500 ante
Christophe Panetti
Christophe Panetti

A rather unusual four-way all-in emerged and Christophe Panetti was the shortest stack for 61,400, while Ran Azor had Miltiadis Kyriakides and Ahadpur Khangah covered.

Christophe Panetti: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Miltiadis Kyriakides: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Ahadpur Khangah: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Ran Azor: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop vaulted Azor into the lead but Panetti found some magic on the {7-Diamonds} turn. Nothing changed with the {9-Spades} river and Panetti quadrupled up while Azor claimed the remaining chips of Kyriakides and Khangah.

Bedir Doubles Back Through Masca

Niveau 8 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Selahaddin Bedir
Selahaddin Bedir

There was some knuckling on the table by Dmitry Gromov and as the live reporting team arrived, Ioan-Matei Masca had to fork over 138,500 already. His {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} had made the nut flush on the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} board but it still was no good. Selahaddin Bedir had rivered a full house with the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and scored a big double.

"I gave you back the chips, now we are even" Masca joked in chat as both players essentially traded stack sizes.

With this double, Bedir's roller coaster ride continues as he joined the big stacks once more.

Romanello Doubles; Savchenko Busts

Niveau 6 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Roberto Romanello
Roberto Romanello

Alexander Savchenko had already 30,500 on the {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop out of the small blind and then called the shove by Roberto Romanello in the cutoff.

Roberto Romanello: {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Alexander Savchenko: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The {10-Hearts} turn and {3-Spades} river were blanks and Romanello doubled for 62,300.

One hand later, Naji Tanuri raised to 4,500 and Savchenko jammed blind for 26,100. Hala Karam called and Tanuri folded.

Karam already exposed her {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} while Savchenko indeed rubbed his cards, not knowing what to expect. He then flashed {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and saw the board run out {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{a-Spades} for Karam to hit a full house.

Martirosian Doubles Into a Big Stack

Niveau 6 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Artur Martirosian
Artur Martirosian

Artur Martirosian was busy playing high stakes cash game on his mobile phone that it barely brought any attention to the face he was all-in preflop in a big pot. The Russian was at risk for 180,000 with the {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} and his opponent Paul Mcloughlin tabled the inferior {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

Nothing changed on the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} board and Martirosian briefly glanced up from his phone to verify the stack size before he had to stack them all up.

Biz Loses Flip to Shashikhina

Mustafa Biz
Mustafa Biz

With already 9,000 invested by Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina and another player, Mustafa Biz then shipped it in for around 35,000. Shashikhina went all-in over the top and the third player in the hand folded what he declared as pocket pair.

Mustafa Biz: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Sonia-Veronika Shashikhina: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{a-Spades}{q-Spades} board gave Shashikhina the superior pair on the river and Biz was booted from Day 1c for now.

Nurzynski Doubles Through Zavorotnijs

Niveau 5 : 700/1,400, 1,400 ante
Piotr Nurzynski
Piotr Nurzynski

"Wow, that's a crazy call. Jack and nine on the board and he still calls with sevens," the otherwise rather silent Christopher Kyriacou said after all was done. Piotr Nurzynski had jammed the {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts} turn for 51,900 in the cutoff and earned a tank-call from Vitalijs Zavorotnijs in the big blind.

Piotr Nurzynski: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Vitalijs Zavorotnijs: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {8-Hearts} river was no threat and Nurzynski secured the double up in a battle EPT versus WPT Main Event champion.

In a four-bet pot to the {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, Andrea Ricci bet 10,000 out of the big blind and was called by Bahram Chobineh. The {7-Diamonds} turn was checked and Ricci bet the {a-Diamonds} river for another 20,000. Chobineh mulled over his decision for a bit and called.

"Full house, aces" Ricci announced and rolled over the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} as the winning hand.

Slusarek Eliminated by Alahwal

Niveau 2 : 400/800, 800 ante
George Alahwal
George Alahwal

On a flop of {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, George Alahwal bet 2,500 and faced a raise to 7,500 by Patryk Slusarek. Alahwal made it 32,500 to go and then called the shoe by Slusarek.

George Alahwal: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Patryk Slusarek: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The board completed with the {6-Hearts} turn and {2-Hearts} river, giving Alahwal the nut flush with the superior hand anyways. "I gonna defend my 2,400. I lost with aces against pocket fours on the other table," Alahwal said in table chat. The stacks were counted and Alahwal's 116,600 were superior to send Slusarek to the rail.

Heads-up to the {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop, Meraj Mirzaei bet 1,800 from under the gun and Erdal Gulseven raised to 4,500 from the cutoff, picking up a call. Mirzaei then check-called the {8-Hearts} turn for 8,500 and checked the {8-Diamonds} on the river. Gulseven continued his aggression and made it 17,800 to go, which didn't result in a call.
