One Day, $25K, PCA 2018; Chips Fly at Noon

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2018 rolls on this afternoon with the $25,000 Single-Day High Roller, the 18th event of the annual festival at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

This is the third High Roller of the festival after Cary Katz won the $100,000 Super High Roller and Steve O’Dwyer captured the $50,000 High Roller. Once again, the wealthiest players unfortunate enough to no longer be in the running of the Main Event will converge for a one-day battle on the felt.

At the 2017 PokerStars Championship Bahamas Bryn Kenney captured yet another title after topping a field of 42 runners that included 17 re-entries. Just seven players made the money including Sean Winter, Mike Watson, Bill Perkins, Oleksii Khoroshenin, and Anton Astapau. Kenney would end up defeating Dario Sammartino heads-up to claim the $392,876 top prize.

Kenney is no longer in the Main Event so chances are he will make an appearance during the day. PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu and Jeff Gross are also free and the two previous High Roller champs, Katz and O’Dwyer, can attempt to go for a second title this festival.

Once the action kicks off at noon local time, play will continue until a champion is crowned. Players start with 100,000 in chips and Levels will last 30 minutes. There is also a 30-second shot clock governing the event though players are given timebank chips for those uncomfortable spots. One re-entry is permitted per player.

PokerNews will be here throughout the festival, bringing you all the news and live updates. Follow @pokernews on Twitter for updates and more. Also, follow PokerNews on Facebook and Instagram.

Chidwick Doubles Through Kornuth

Niveau 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

There were about 13,000 chips already in the middle and the board read {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} when we got to the table. Stephen Chidwick bet 7,000 from the small blind and Chance Kornuth called from the hijack.

The turn brought the {K-Hearts} and Chidwick bet 13,000. Kornuth called.

The {4-Diamonds} fell on the river, Chidwick shoved for 39,000, and Kornuth called with the larger of the two stacks by a wide margin. Chidwick tabled {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} and his flopped top set was best against Kornuth, who held {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, so he took the pot to double up.

Koon Stacks Seidel

Niveau 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Erik Seidel in a previous event
Erik Seidel in a previous event

Jason Koon raised to 5,500 from under the gun and Erik Seidel three-bet shoved from the cutoff for 47,500. After brief consideration, Koon called to put Seidel at risk.

Seidel: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
Koon: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

Seidel was racing for his tournament and Koon needed to improve in order to win. Although Seidel retained his lead on the {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Koon pulled ahead on the {A-Diamonds} turn. The {9-Diamonds} river changed nothing, so Koon took the pot to end Seidel's tournament.

Oussama Mobaress
Oussama Mobaress

Action folded to Ari Engel on the button and he raised to 7,000. Oussama Mobaress called from the big blind.

The flop came {K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Mobaress checked. Engel bet 8,000 and Mobaress check-raised to 20,500. Engel called.

The turn brought the {J-Clubs}, Mobaress bet 20,500, and Engel called.

The {K-Spades} fell on the river and Mobaress checked. Engel bet 19,000, Mobaress called, and Engel tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}. However, his overpair was no good, as Mobaress held {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} for rivered trip kings.

Kurganov Sends O'Dwyer to the Rail

Niveau 6 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Igro Kurganov
Igro Kurganov

Igor Kurganov opened to 6,000 from the hijack, only to have Chance Kornuth re-raise to 20,000 directly to his left. Steve O'Dwyer was in the big blind and stuck in his last 11,000 chips. With the action back on Kurganov, he splashed in a four-bet to 46,000, which quickly prompted a fold from Kornuth.

Igor Kurganov: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Steve O'Dwyer: {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

The flop came {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and O'Dwyer was barely hanging out with his pair of threes. The turn brought the {k-Hearts} and Kurganov took the lead with a pair of kings, and held on when the {2-Clubs} fell on the river.

Negreanu Left Short by Kenney; Busts Soon After

Niveau 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

An under-the-gun open by Brynn Kenney saw Daniel Negreanu defend his big blind. The flop fanned out {3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Negreanu check-raised a bet of 12,000 from Kenney to 32,000 and Kenney called.

When the {5-Spades} fell on the turn, Negreanu checked again and called a bet of 26,000 from Kenney. The {q-Diamonds} completed the board and Negreanu check-folded when Kenney bet 75,000.

Negreanu was left with about 10 big blinds and busted a few moments later. That spells the end of Negreanu's day as he was on his second bullet.

Lawrence Greenberg has just come into the room and sat down with his first bullet.

Defending Champion Falls to Haxton

Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Isaac Haxton opened to 26,000 from early position and called a three-bet jam of about 130,000 from defending champion Bryn Kenney one seat over.

Kenney: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Haxton: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The most classic of races was underway and Kenney quickly lost his advantage when Haxton spiked a king on the {k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop. No help came with the {9-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} run out and Kenney departed in 13th place.

Isaac Haxton pushed his short stack of 260,000 into the middle from the cutoff. Timothy Adams was in the small blind and moved all in over the top, forcing Chris Hunichen to fold his big blind.

Timothy Adams: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Isaac Haxton: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Haxton would need to hit one of the two remaining sevens in the deck in order to stay alive. Unfortunately, the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and Haxton was the first player to be eliminated in the money.

Chris Hunichen pushed all in for 390,000 from the cutoff and Jason Koon re-shipped all in from the small blind. Benjamin Pollak folded the big blind and the cards were tabled.

Koon showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and Hunichen flipped over {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. "We got a bit of a sweat," Hunichen said about his live cards.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Koon took a massive lead in the pot. "That's not the sweat I was looking for," Hunichen laughed.

The turn was the {j-Clubs} and Hunichen was drawing dead to the {4-Diamonds} on the river.
