Pedro Neves Leads Final Six Players in the 2023 PCA Main Event

Niveau 29 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Pedro Neves
Pedro Neves

One of the tournament highlights of the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) is just one day away from crowning a winner at the luxurious Baha Mar Resort in The Bahamas. A field of 889 entries in the 2023 PCA $10,300 Main Event has been cut down to the final six hopefuls and they will be playing for the biggest slice of the $8,623,300 prize pool on Sunday, January 29th.

With an average of more than 44 big blinds, it is still everybody's game, and Pedro Neves can be found atop the leaderboard with a stack of 6,205,000. Just two big blinds behind is PokerStars online qualifier Alexandre Raymond (5,955,000) while the 2021 EPT Sochi Main Event winner Artur Martirosian (5,855,000) is trailing by another single big blind only.

Day 4 chip leader Michel Dattani (4,000,000) and cash game player Christoph Csik (3,905,000) are separated by a single big blind as well and Jamil Wakil is the shortest stack. His 755,000 represent fewer than eight big blinds with 81:36 minutes remaining in Level 29 at blinds of 50,000/100,000 and a big blind ante of 100,000.

The final casualty on Day 5 was the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Alexandros Kolonias, widely known under his PokerStars alias of "mexican222". Also featured on the final table were the American poker pros Taylor Paur and Jonathan Little, the latter of which lasted only one hand when the field combined to a single table.

A payday of $1,500,000 awaits the eventual winner, and the six finalists have locked up at least $307,500 for their efforts so far. With massive pay jumps waiting after each elimination, the conclusion of the Main Event may turn into a tense affair.

The penultimate tournament day recommenced with 16 players still in the mix, and the first casualty was Germany's Mauricio Ferreira Pais, who picked an unfortunate time to commit most of his chips preflop and ran into the flopped nut flush of Dattani. For the start-of-the-day chip leader, it was a return to winning ways after Raymond had cracked his pocket kings with ace-king suited to score a large double in the opening stages.

From there on, the eliminations kept coming at a consistent pace. Giuseppe Iadisernia also had his pocket kings cracked when Little nailed a set of sevens. The very jovial Clint Tolbert followed next after he never recovered from losing a big portion of his stack with ace-king suited against the pocket kings of Neves on the secondary feature table. Two further American poker pros were among those to depart before the unofficial final table, including Ian Matakis and Mitchell Halverson with Sergi Reixach departing from the main feature table in between.

Raymond continued his strong run of cards by knocking out Little in the very first hand thereafter before showcasing his talents with an excellent read on Neves, folding a turned full house correctly to the Portuguese.

Alexandre Raymond
PokerStars qualifier Alexandre Raymond is second in chips for the final day

Paur could not pull away from the bottom of the leaderboard despite one double-up. He lost a flip with ace-king to the pocket queens of Martirosian. Last but not least, Kolonias became short when paying off yet another flopped nut flush of Dattani and eventually succumbed to the short stack grind.

The final day is set to continue at 12:30 p.m. local time, and Martirosian could become the first player in history to win a Main Event title of PokerStars' flagship EPT and PCA tours. Victoria Coren-Mitchell and Mikalai Pobal are the only two players so far to have two EPT Main Event titles under their belt.

You can follow all the action of the thrilling conclusion right here on PokerNews or on the PokerStars YouTube and Twitch channels. All updates for the final day will be published following the 30-minute security delay of the live stream.

Martirosian Pulls Ahead of Neves and Dattani

Niveau 28 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Artur Martirosian
Artur Martirosian

Artur Martirosian raised it up to 180,000 with the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Pedro Neves defended the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} out of the big blind. The {j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop was checked to the Russian and he bet for the win.

The very next hand saw Martirosian open to 180,000 with the {a-Spades}{j-Spades} from under the gun and this time, Michel Dattani came along on the button with {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, three-betting to 540,000. Martirosian was in no mood of folding and they headed to the {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop, which gave the Russian the nut flush draw.

Martirosian check-called a bet worth 480,000 and a pot of 2,080,000 emerged to the {a-Hearts} turn, on which Dattani checked behind. Fast forward to the {k-Hearts} river, Martirosian bet 1,450,000 and Dattani snap-folded before he was even given the bet sizing.

Artur Martirosian opened to 160,000 from early position. Action folded to Taylor Paur in the big blind and he moved all in for 1,480,000. Martirosian called after spending some time in the tank to set up the flip.

Taylor Paur: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Artur Martirosian: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop was of no help to Paur and the {5-Diamonds} turn kept Martirosian ahead. The {3-Spades} completed the board and Paur exited the Main Event in 8th place for $181,900.

"It's the first time in four years, but it's a brand new venue," he told PokerNews. "And this time the PCA precedes the PSPC — so we've got two big events back-to-back."

Down to the last 330,000 and far shortest stack, Taylor Paur moved all in from the hijack. The action folded to Alexandros Kolonias in the small blind and he made the call.

Taylor Paur: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Alexandros Kolonias: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

It was a mighty sweat after the {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop and {4-Diamonds} turn, which gave Kolonias a straight and flush draw on top of the one overcard. However, the {q-Clubs} river was a blank and Paur somehow held onto the lead for the double.

Raymond Folds Full House Correctly

Alexandre Raymond

Pedro Neves raised to 100,000 from early position and was called by Alexandre Raymond from the big blind.

Raymond, with {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, check-raised to 200,000 on the {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop after Neves continued for 70,000 with his {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Neves called.

Raymond improved to a full house on the {5-Hearts} turn and action checked through.

The {k-Hearts} river then improved Neves to a superior full house and Raymond led out for 325,000. Neves then raised, choosing a sizing of 1,800,000. Miraculously, Raymond found the correct fold and did it without using up a time bank card.

Jonathan Little Eliminated in 9th Place ($139,900)

Jonathan Little

In the very first hand of the unofficial final table, Alexandre Raymond raised it up to 110,000 in the hijack. Jonathan Little in the small blind three-bet jammed for 1,205,000 and it folded back to Raymond, who asked for a count.

Little had been shoving a lot on the final two tables and this time, he was called.

Jonathan Little: {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Alexandre Raymond: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Little was still sipping on a fresh drink that he had brought from the break and never got to finish it. The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for the kicker to play.

Just like that, the tournament was brought a little closer to the conclusion for Day 5 as Little had to settle for a payday of $139,900.

Action was heads up with over 600,000 in the middle and a full board of {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts} when Allan Mello called a 350,000 bet from Michel Dattani. Dattani turned over {8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} to take the pot with eights and sixes, while Mello flashed the {8-Spades} and tossed the losing hand in the muck.

Moments later, Mello shoved his remaining 520,000 from the button and Dattani looked him up from the big blind.

Allan Mello: {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Michel Dattani: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {5-Spades}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Dattani held on with pocket tens to eliminate Mello in 10th place for $112,600.
