Time for Day 2 of the 2018 Poker Masters $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event

David Peters
David Peters

Welcome to the ARIA Resort & Casino, and the 2018 Poker Masters for Day 2 of Event #7: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event.

Six events have been won and run and the second annual Poker Masters, and so far David Peters, Brandon Adams, Keith Lehr, Isaac Haxton, and Ali Imsirovic have all collected titles. For Imsirovic, he won back-to-back events winning the $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em and the $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em to pocket a combined $1.2 million in earnings along with rocketing to the top of the leaderboard rankings for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket.

Unlike the inaugural running of the Poker Masters where the Purple Jacket was decided using total earnings, the 2018 Poker Masters will use the High Roller of the Year scoring system to award the coveted Poker Masters Purple Jacket. Players are awarded points for their in-the-money finish, and currently there are only five players in contention to claim the Purple Jacket due to some outstanding performances so far this series. Here are the current standings heading into the Main Event:

Day 1 of the $100,000 buy-in Main Event kicked off in the PokerGO Studio on Thursday with 15 players taking a seat. Registration was originally planned to be open for the first ten levels, and until play started on Day 2, but when the likes of Brandon Adams, Dan Smith, Jason Koon, Brian Rast, Matthias Eibinger, and Keith Tilston all found themselves on the rail, the tournament was brought to a screeching halt.

Tournament Director Paul Campbell paused the tournament mid-way through level five to have a lengthy discussion with the remaining nine players. To protect the integrity of the tournament and the players who were currently still remaining, the decision was made to end Day 1 at the completion of the level, and have registration end at the commencement of play on Day 2 (through five levels instead of the original ten). Players still had the opportunity to enter for the first time, or re-enter for those already eliminated, and between ARIA Poker and PokerGO staff, along with the players, this was deemed the fairest decision.

Isaac Haxton would be eliminated on one of the last hands of the day, and eight players would survive into Day 2. David Peters held the chip lead with 620,500, but he was closely followed by Justin Bonomo (495,000), Seth Davies (466,500), Rainer Kempe (464,000), and Imsirovic (422,500). Christoph Vogelsang, Nick Petrangelo, and Dominik Nitsche round out the final players who sit with a below average chip stack.

A decent number of players are expected to take advantage of Day 2 registration with the seven eliminated players most likely to re-enter, while the likes of Schindler, Cary Katz, Bryn Kenney, Koray Aldemir, and Sam Soverel near certainties to enter. It is also believed that US Poker Open Champion Stephen Chidwick was en-route to Las Vegas following some passport issues throughout the week.

Like in previous events, each player will have three 30-second time extension chips worth 60 seconds, and there is a 30-second shot clock. Players will start with 200,000 in chips and levels will last 60 minutes with a 10-minute break every two levels. As a reminder, registration is open till 1 p.m. (PDT) and will close once the ARIA Poker staff begin drawing for seats with play expected to begin at 1 p.m. (PDT).

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing continuous live updates from the PokerGO Studio of all the Event #7: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event action. So stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com to see who claim the 2018 Poker Masters Purple Jacket!

"Is That a Straight Flush? Sweet"

On a completed board of {7-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, an all-in and a call occurred at Table 3 and we arrived in time to see Bryn Kenney tabling {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} in a battle of the blinds with Isaac Haxton.

"Is that a straight flush?" Haxton said. "Sweet."

He showed he'd been quite unlucky: {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for top pair and a king-high flush.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Koon failed to improve and was eliminated in 18th place from the Poker Masters Main Event.

Isaac Haxton limped in from the small blind and Bryn Kenney raised to 13,000 from the big blind. Haxton called, and then checked the {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop.

Kenney continued for 16,000, and Haxton called as the turn fell the {K-Spades}. Haxton checked, Kenney bet 47,000, and Haxton called.

The river landed the {A-Hearts} and Haxton checked again as Kenney dropped in two stacks of chips amounting to a bet of 200,000. Haxton called all in for 150,000, and after Kenney tabled his {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for a set, Haxton revealed his {K-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for two pair and was eliminated in 17th place from the Poker Masters Main Event.

Action folded to David Peters in the small blind, and he limped in for 4,000 as Justin Bonomo checked his option in the big.

The flop fell {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and Peters bet out 4,000 with Bonomo making the call as the turn landed the {2-Diamonds}.

Peters bet 13,000, and Bonomo called as the {J-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Peters dropped in a stack of blue 5,000-denomination chips to effectively put Bonomo all in, and the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl Champion obliged by calling all in for 38,000.

Bonomo tabled his {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for top pair, but Peters revealed his {K-Spades}{K-Spades} for an overpair, and consequently Bonomo was eliminated in 15th place from the Poker Masters Main Event.

Stephen Chidwick raised to 10,000 on the button with {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Rainer Kempe defended his big blind with {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. The flop came {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Kempe check-called a bet of 8,000 from Chidwick.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and Kempe checked again. Chidwick overbet the pot with a bet of 80,000 but Kempe still called. The river was the {q-Spades} and Kempe checked one more time. Chidwick reached back for a bet of 302,000 which was enough to cover Kempe's stack.

Kempe thought about it for his allotted 30 seconds and then made the call, much to his dismay. Chidwick turned over his set of sevens and Kempe headed to the rail.

Ali Imsirovic limped in from the small blind with {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Stephen Chidwick raised to 16,000 in the big blind with {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Imsirovic three-bet shoved all in for 123,000 and Chidwick quickly made the call.

Although Imsirovic was well out front with his pocket tens, Chidwick still found an ace on the flop of {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The {q-Spades} landed on the turn giving Imsirovic some chop outs but the {3-Clubs} hit the river.

The Purple Jacket points leader was eliminated in 13th place while Chidwick continued to build up his chip stack. With the elimination of Imsirovic, one thing becomes clear and that is Brandon Adams needs to finish in third place or better to become the 2018 Poker Masters champion.
