In one of the last hands of the previous level, Nick Petrangelo opened the cutoff for 300 and received no fewer than 3 callers; the button and both blinds were all interested in seeing a flop.

Small blind Francois Corouge and big blind Liem Huynh checked on {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Petrangelo bet 800. Ricardo Tavares called from the button before small blind Corouge squeezed to 3,100. Huynh wasted no time calling.

Petrangelo glanced at his chips for a bit before he 3-bet to 8,000. Tavares thought about it for a just a bit before folding. Corouge thought about it a bit longer but eventually followed suit en folded as well. Huynh called.

The {2-Clubs} hit the turn and Huynh checked.

"You have 3 blues behind, right?" Petrangelo asked.

Huynh acknowledged he had 15,000 in blue chips and had about 2,000 or so more in smaller denomination chips.

Petrangelo bet 19,000, putting Huynh all in and leaving himself just 2,550 behind.

Huyhn tanked for under a minute and folded. Petrangelo silently mucked while raking in the chips.

John Juanda - EPT12 Barcelona Main Event Champion
John Juanda - EPT12 Barcelona Main Event Champion

EPT12 Barcelona Main Event winner John Juanda has taken his seat in the Main Event. In 2015, Juanda topped a field of 1,694 entries in the Casino Barcelona to become an EPT-champion. The poker icon from Indonesia, ninth on the all-time money list with over $20 million (!) in lifetime winnings, won €1,022,593 after defeating Steve Warburton heads-up.

In one of his first pots of the day, Juanda bet 300 on a {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Spades} flop and his opponent check-called. Both players checked the {3-Clubs} on the turn. On the {K-Hearts} river, Juanda bet 650 and his opponent quickly check-called. The Indonesian showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and won the hand when his opponent mucked.

Sick Runout Sees Kirsch Eliminate One

A player on the button had an all-in shove of 11,000 in front of him when we got to his table, having been faced with a raise to 1,600 from Jeff Kirsch in the small blind. Kirsch thought it over and then tossed in a call, and the all-in shipper immediately stood up and tabled {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}, expecting to be heading for the exits.

However, he was ahead as Kirsch held {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. The dealer spread a {3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop.

"Good flop for you," said Mark Teltscher, clearly expecting things were wrapped up.

That would be a natural assumption with Kirsch drawing to runners, but he found a sweat on the {k-Spades} turn. The {k-Hearts} river gave Kirsch kings full to eliminate his unfortunate opponent, who had resumed sitting in expectation of receiving a double and had to get right back up.

Papazian Slips

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Romania's all-time money leader Alexandru Papazian returns from a hot summer in Las Vegas, where he won his country's first-ever bracelet. Papazian won $888,888, the second largest score of the Romanian's career. His biggest achievement came from 2016 when he topped the EPT12 Monte-Carlo €25,750 High Roller for €1,197,000.

Papazian is off to a rocky start today and already has parted with half his stack. On a {5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{2-Spades} board, Papazian bet 1,250 and Fabian Mayorga Medina called. The river was the {3-Hearts} and Papazian bet 3,000, which Mayorga snap-called.

Papazian showed {K-Hearts}{J-Spades} for a pair of kings but Mayorga tabled {5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for two pair to drag the pot.

Not much later, Papazian lost a bit more as he called a check-raise from 500 to 1,600 on {4-Spades}{K-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. He and his opponent checked the {J-Diamonds} on the turn and Papazian folded to his opponent's 3,100 bet on the {9-Hearts} river. Papazian continued with 13,625, his opponent flashed {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

High Rollers Sitting

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Super high roller regs Steve O'Dwyer and Ben Tollerene are among recent entries into the Main Event field. Expect plenty of their peers to join them throughout the day. Since there's a $25K Single-Day High Roller tomorrow, most of the players looking to play big will be taking the opportunity to play Day 1a rather than Day 1b.

Flush for Reichenstein

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Uri Reichenstein played what looked to be a three-bet pot from under the gun against an opponent in middle position. Both checked the flop and the board read {2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Reichenstein check-called 1,250 and both checked the {q-Clubs}.

Last year's EPT Barcelona runner-up showed down {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for a flush and that was good for the pot.
