Joachim Bold Claims Day 1b Chip Lead of PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Day 1b Chip Leader Joachim Bold
Day 1b Chip Leader Joachim Bold

Day 1b of the PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event has come to an end with 226 players surviving the six 75-minute levels they faced today. A total of 321 hopefuls entered the luxurious City of Dreams resort today with their sights set on bagging chips by day’s end.

A late 6 p.m. start today gave locals some extra time to get to their seat before cards were in the air and a number of players who took part in this afternoon’s Single Day High Roller had the chance to get some more hands in after their luck ran out.

Germany’s Joachim Bold wielded the largest stack by the time the clock ran out, gathering the majority of his 130,500 stack when he picked up pocket aces and busted another player’s pocket queens.

3Yuexin WangChina121,100

Chinese movie actress Yao Meng (128,700) and Malaysian Yuexin Wang (121,400) hovered very close to the top of the chip counts. A number of notable players secured a seat for tomorrow’s Day 2 as well including Elliot Smith (101,700), Sofia Lovgren (66,500), Manig Loeser (56,800), Winfred Yu (47,300) and yesterday’s Super High Roller Champion Steve O’Dwyer (25,300).

Several PokerStars pros joined in the hunt for a title, though many were lost along the way. Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew and [Removed:532] were able to stave off elimination but Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier, Chris Moneymaker, Celina Lin and Felipe Ramos saw their torches snuffed out.

Ramos was especially frustrated with how his day went. The Brazilian Team Pro hadn’t won a single hand he played early on, seeing his stack dwindle below 10,000. It seemed his luck was turning around toward the end of the night, scoring a massive double up with pocket aces against pocket kings, only to pick up two aces again the very next hand and get cracked by pocket tens.

The remaining 226 players from Day 1b will join the 117 survivors from Day 1a Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m local time as Day 2 kicks off.

Frustrating Day for Ramos Ends With Early Exit

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Felipe Ramos
Felipe Ramos

PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos had not been having a great day. Things did, however, turn around over the last level but came to a devastating halt just moments ago.

Ramos said earlier today he hadn't won a single hand he played and seen his stack dwindle to under 10,000. The Brazilian had found some luck picking up aces in back-to-back hands.

In the first round with the pocket rockets, Ramos doubled up besting pocket kings. The very next hand though, Ramos got his stack in the middle again, this time against two tens. Unfortunately, the tens emerged victorious and Ramos was left without any chips in front of him and his chair is now empty.

A card has been cut to decide how many more hands will be played tonight — the answer is five. Once players play their fifth hand, their stacks will be bagged and tagged for the night, waiting to be reopened tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Day 2.

Kahle Burns raised to 1,200 from the cutoff seat and the player on the button looked down at his cards before grabbing raising chips. He made it 3,500 and action folded back to Burns.

Burns eyed up his opponent and counted out a stack of chips. He pushed forward a four-bet worth 9,600 and his opponent only thought for a moment before folding.

Chen Gives It Up

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Yosuke Takagi raised to 1,200 from the cutoff seat and James Chen, sitting on his direct left on the button, three-bet to 4,000. Takagi called and the two went heads-up to a flop of {5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Spades}.

Takagi led out for 5,000 and Chen called, seeing a turn of {8-Clubs}. Takagi continued for another 5,000 and Chen called again.

The river was the {3-Hearts} and Takagi joined motioned at the dealer, joining his thumbs and forefingers in a triangle to call for the all-in triangle. He pushed the rest of his chips in, amounting to just under 10,000. Chen folded before the count was finished.

Super High Roller Champ in the House

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Fresh off last night's thrilling Super High Roller win, his second-straight PokerStars Championship Super High Roller victory, Steve O'Dwyer has entered the mix here on Day 1b.

As luck would have it, O'Dwyer is sitting to the left of the third-place finisher in yesterday's Super High Roller, Manig Loeser. Quite the table is forming over there as Elliot Smith get's position on O'Dwyer, sitting to his immediate left.

Five-Bet Seals it for Fan

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Tao Fan called an under-the-gun open of 1,050 while on the button only to see a three-bet from the player in the big blind to 3,100. The UTG player then bumped it up again with a four-bet to 8,100.

Fan reviewed his options before putting out a five-bet worth 21,500. Both his opponents folded and Fan earned the checkmark.
