O'Dwyer Looks to Add to High Roller Success, Close Out Final Five

Niveau 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Not many players have been more successful on the high roller circuit than American transplant Steve O'Dwyer, who has racked up millions in cashes en route to a top-15 ranking in the all-time money list. He's got a golden chance to add to that total after bagging the chip lead with just five players left in the PokerStars Championship Panama $10,300 High Roller.

O'Dwyer will take 1,849,000 chips into the Day 3 finale with blinds and antes heading to 10,000/20,000/3,000. He'll be followed by Francois Billard (1,494,000), Sam Greenwood (1,273,000), Chris Hunichen (746,000), and PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos (273,000).

The day began with a handful of last-minute registrations, including Hunichen, who was busy on Day 1 finishing up at a final table in a side event. That pushed the total number of entries to 110, of which 26 were reentries, creating a prize pool of $1,067,000.

O'Dwyer got off to a fast start and scored some early eliminations to shoot to the top of the leaderboard. He got lucky in one critical pot when he five-bet all in for over 40 big blinds against Jan-Eric Schwippert with king-queen and got there against ace-king hitting a straight on the river.

He remained among the leaders for much of the day before hitting a minor rut a little after the money bubble burst, with Francois Evard the unfortunate player walking away empty-handed. Billard scored that elimination and looked poised to bag the lead before O'Dwyer got himself in a huge flip.

It began with Anthony Zinno opening for a raise in the cutoff to 40,000 at 8,000/16,000/2,000. O'Dwyer responded with a three-bet to 128,000, and Zinno shoved all in for 605,000. O'Dwyer opted to call with pocket sevens and managed to hold up against king-jack. Zinno had to settle for sixth place.

Other players making their way to payouts in the top 15 included Paul Newey, Andrew Chen, Sergio Aido and Sam Chartier. Meanwhile, Bryn Kenney, Koray Aldemir, Stephen Chidwick and Daniel Dvoress were among those making it to the final few tables but busting before the money.

The remaining five contenders have agreed to a 2 p.m. restart on Monday, so come back to PokerNews then to see who claims the $274,740 first-place prize.

Anthony Zinno Eliminated in 6th Place ($62,960)

Anthony Zinno
Anthony Zinno

Anthony Zinno raised to 40,000 in the cutoff, and Steve O'Dwyer reraised to 128,000 in the big blind. Zinno responded by moving all in for right around 600,000.

"You got a big one?" O'Dwyer asked with a smile, taking off his headphones. "I've got a little one."

Nonetheless, he decided to call.

O'Dwyer: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Zinno: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The race was on, and O'Dwyer held up on the flop, turn and river: {10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

"End of the tournament and Steve O'Dwyer has all the chips," Chris Hunichen said. "We've seen this story before."

Francois Billard Can't Shake Sam Greenwood

Niveau 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Sam Greenwood raised to 40,000 under the gun and Francois Billard, who was next to act, made the call. The rest of the players folded and it was heads-up action to the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}.

Greenwood check-called a bet of 68,000 and then check-called one of 190,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn.

When the {10-Spades} paired the board on the river, Greenwood checked for a third time and Billard opted to shut it down.

"Jack," Greenwood said before tabling his {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. It was good as Billard simply mucked.

Damian Salas Eliminated in 7th Place ($49,620)

Damian Salas

Damian Salas moved all in under the gun for right around 160,000 and action folded around to Anthony Zinno, who called out of the big blind.

Zinno: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Salas: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Salas turned to his friends on the rail to let them know that he as flipping for his tournament life. Indeed he was, but he was also the one in need of improvement.

The {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Clubs} gave him a gutshot to a seven to go with his overs, while the {Q-Hearts} turn added a jack out to the mix.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {9-Spades}. Salas missed and had to settle for seventh place and $49,620 in prize money.

Greenwood Back to Overbetting Tricks

Niveau 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Sam Greenwood defended his big blind from a 35,000 raise by Anthony Zinno, who was on the button. It looked to be a non-descript pot as they checked down a {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{a-Spades} board, and Zinno finally bet 40,000. Greenwood slid in 212,000 after thinking for a couple of minutes. Zinno took his turn in the tank and then folded.

Sam Chartier Eliminated in 8th Place ($37,880)

Niveau 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Francois Billard and Steve O'Dwyer just chopped up what was left of Sam Chartier's chips.

Chartier had folded a couple of hands before calling off his last 17,000 from the cutoff after Billard had raised to 27,000 from the hijack. Steve O'Dwyer came along from the button, both blinds folded, and the two active players proceeded to check the {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Spades} flop.

Billard then check-called a bet of 30,000 on the {J-Diamonds} turn before both players returned to checking on the {J-Clubs} river.

O'Dwyer showed the {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Billard the {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, both of which beat Chartier's {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

Chartier Left With Dust After Cooler

Sam Chartier

Anthony Zinno opened for 35,000 in middle position, and Sam Chartier defended his big blind. Both players checked the {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop, and a {3-Hearts} hit. Chartier bet 27,000 and Zinno called. Chartier fired again on the {a-Spades} river for 68,000, and Zinno moved all in for 200,000 more. Chartier sighed and tanked briefly but then announced a call.

Zinno showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a boat, and Chartier slid nearly all of his chips in to pay him off. He mucked and the dealer turned over his {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.
