Welcome to Day 2 of the PokerStars Championship Panama $10,300 High Roller

PokerStars Championship Panama
PokerStars Championship Panama

Welcome back to the PokerStars Championship Panama $10,300 High Roller, which yesterday attracted 101 entrants (77 unique + 24 re-entries) to the Sortis Casino here in Panama City. That number could even go up as registration is open right up until the start of Day 2, which will kick off at Noon local time.

Right now, 43 players are slated to return with Canadian Sam Greenwood, 28, and his stack of 316,300 leading the way. Others returning with big stacks include Ecuador’s Pedro Idrovo (305,200), Bulgaria’s Aleks Dimitrov (287,700), EPT Prague High Roller runner-up Patrick Serda (243,600), and PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos (231,400), who round out the top five.

Others still in contention include Team Pro Leo Fernandez (148,600), PokerStars Championship Panama $25,000 High Roller champ Stephen Chidwick (144,800), 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Ryan Riess (115,000), and the short stack Anton Astapau (22,400).

This is the third five-figure-buy-in tournament held during the Championship's 11-day run at the world-class Sortis Hotel, Spa & Casino. Ben Tollerene, who eliminated everyone at the final table, topped a field of 33 entries to win the $50,000 Super High Roller for over a half million dollars in cash.

A couple days later, Chidwick took down the $25,000 single-day event, outlasting a field of 44 to move his total career earnings across the $7-million mark.

The prize pool for this tournament is closing in on $1 million, and we’ll be sure to bring you official numbers and payouts just as soon as they’re released.

Cards will be in the air in just over an hour, so stay tuned as we bring you all the action and eliminations from Day 2 of the PokerStars Championship Panama $10,300 High Roller.

David Peters the First to Go on Day 2

David Peters
David Peters

Action folded to Mike McDonald on the button and he raised to 4,000. David Peters responded by moving all in from the small blind for roughly 40,000, and $25K High Roller champ Stephen Chidwick spiked in a stack of blue T5,000 chips from the big. McDonald quickly folded and the cards were turned up.

Peters: {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Chidwick: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

It looked as if Peters' shove was going to pay off as he took the lead on the {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop and maintained it on the {3-Hearts} river. Unfortunately for him, the {K-Clubs} spiked on the river and Chidwick made two pair to send Peters out the door.

Overbet Works for Serda

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Patrick Serda
Patrick Serda

Patrick Serda was all in from the button when we got to his table for 62,200. The board was {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}, and Stephen Chidwick was thinking things over from under the gun. The pot only contained around 40,000, and Chidwick went deep into the tank. Serda told the dealer he wanted to clock Chidwick, and the one-minute countdown began in short order. With eight seconds left of his hand being live, Chidwick flicked in a chip to call.

Chidwick: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Serda: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Chidwick was in about as bad of shape as possible, and the {10-Diamonds} river did not bring him his lone out.

Mike McDonald

Mike "Timex" McDonald raised all in for 34,900 under the gun and he cleared the field all the way around to Patrick Serda, who called from the big blind.

Serda: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
McDonald: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

It was a flip, but if you read the title of this post you know how it ends up. That's right, the board ran out {2-Clubs}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}a and McDonald hit the rail.

"That's Why You're the Best"

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Mike Watson
Mike Watson

Bryn Kenney just made a great call to eliminate Mike Watson.

The hand began when Watson raised to 5,500 from the hijack and Kenney three-bet to 14,700 from the small blind. Watson made the call and then called a bet of 13,100 from Kenney on the {3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} flop.

Both players then checked the {9-Spades} turn and Kenney checked on the {Q-Spades} river.

Watson responded by moving all in for around 55,000 and Kenney thought long and hard before calling with the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for ace-ten high. It was good too as Watson had shoved with the inferior {a-Spades}{5-Spades}.

"That's why you're the best," Chris Hunichen told Kenney after the hand.

Aido Doubles in Royal Fashion, Gonzalez Busts

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Sergio Aido
Sergio Aido

Sergio Aido bet 21,000, which looked to be slightly over pot, on an {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop. Bryn Kenney called from under the gun after checking, with a third player in between those two folding. Kenney checked the {9-Hearts} turn, and Aido moved all in. Kenney insta-called for what turned out to be 78,500.

Aido: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Kenney: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Aido had a big draw, and it turned into the biggest hand as a {k-Clubs} fell on the river.

At the same table, Chris Hunichen busted Fabrizio Gonzalez in a hand we didn't see.

Big Slick Doesn't Do the Trick for Roman Korenev

Niveau 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Roman Korenev
Roman Korenev

Roman Korenev moved all in for 49,000 from the cutoff and Jan-Eric Schwippert called from the small blind.

Korenev: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Schwippert: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

It was a flip but Korenev needed to improve to stay alive. He didn't do it on the {j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, and while the {4-Hearts} turn didn't hit him directly, it did give him a wheel draw.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {10-Clubs}. Schwippert improved to a set and sent Korenev to the rail.

Steve O'Dwyer Straightens Out Jan-Eric Schwippert in Monster Pot

Jan-Eric Schwippert
Jan-Eric Schwippert

Jan-Eric Schwippert raised to 13,500 from the button and was met by a three-bet to 39,000 from Steve O'Dwyer in the small blind. Schwippert responded with a four-bet to 107,500 and then called when O'Dwyer five-bet jammed.

O'Dwyer: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Schwippert: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

O'Dwyer picked a bad spot, or so it seemed. Much to the dismay of Schwippert, the board ran out {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Spades} to give O'Dwyer a rivered straight and the win.

Billard Eliminates Kenney

Niveau 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Felipe Ramos (L) and Bryn Kenney
Felipe Ramos (L) and Bryn Kenney

The dance had gotten aggressive between Sergey Lebedev, Francois Billard and Bryn Kenney. Those three were making it a habit to come after each other's preflop raises, and things were no different when Lebedev opened for 11,500 in the cutoff. Billard made it 31,000 in the next seat, and Kenney shoved all in from the small blind. Lebedev folded after some thought, and Billard called for what looked like about 100,000.

Billard: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Kenney: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

It was a rough spot for the high roller expert, and the board blanked out with {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} to eliminate him.

Pedro Idrovo Falls in 17th Place

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Pedro Idrovo
Pedro Idrovo

With 47,000 in the pot and a flop of {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, Pedro Idrovo checked from the small blind and Francois Billard bet 26,000 from the cutoff. Idrovo wok up with an all-in check-raise to 253,000 and Billard asked for an exact count before making the call.

Idrovo: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Billard: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Idrovo had the worse pair, but he did have a gutshot as a backup. Unfortunately for him, neither the {2-Diamonds} turn nor {6-Diamonds} river helped and he was sent to the rail two spots shy of the money.

The elimination of Idrovo will see the final 16 players redraw down to the final two tables. It also places the tournament on the money bubble, which means players will play hand-for-hand until it bursts. That'll likely only be one more hand as just 56 seconds remain on the clock before the 80-minute dinner break.
