Failed Bluff Sees Chidwick Hit the Rail

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Stephen Chidwick got up from the table and headed for the exit. We asked him for the details of his bust out and he was kind enough to tell us what had happened, despite the fact that it was a failed bluff that had done him in.

A player in early position raised and the button called before Chidwick in the small blind too called. Chidwick, with {4-}{5-}-suited, checked the {A-}{Q-}{10-} rainbow flop. The action checked around and an off suit {4-} hit the turn for an all rainbow board. Chidwick and the initial raiser checked again and the button bet 4,000. Chidwick check-raised to 11,000 and the initial raiser folded, the button called.

The river came the {9-} and Chidwick shoved for about 20,000. His opponent called with {A-}{J-} and that meant Chidwick had to pack up and leave.

Kurganov Really Wants to Show

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Action folded around to the hijack who raised to 1,700. Igor Kurganov was in the big blind and called.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Kurganov checked. The hijack bet 2,100 and Kurganov quickly called.

The turn was the {8-Spades} and both players checked to the river, which was the {2-Hearts}. Kurganov led out for 9,000 and his opponent folded.

As Kurganov was raking in the pot, he pushed his cards towards his opponent, signalling for him to pick one card. His opponent declined. "It's good cards", said Kurganov.

Checking It Down with Pavliuk and Fernandez

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez raised to 2,000 under the gun and Roman Pavliuk called from the button. Both blinds folded and it was heads-up action to the {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop.

Action went check-check as it did on the {3-Spades} turn and {4-Spades} river.

Fernandez showed the {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for king high, but it was no good as Pavliuk had ace high with his {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

Korenev Doubles Through Lewis

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Osvaldo Lewis made it 2,100 in the cutoff and got a caller before Roman Korenev jammed in the small blind for about 21,000 more. Lewis got the count and put in calling chips, and the third player folded.

Korenev: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Lewis: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Korenev needed help, and the {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Spades} flop provided it. The {j-Spades} sealed things up for him on the turn.

Korenev Loses a Bit

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From early position, Roman Korenev opened the action for 1,800. His neighbor and the big blind both called.

The big blind and Korenev checked on {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and the third player bet 2,100. The big blind and Korenev called and checked again on the {Q-Diamonds} turn. The aggressor now bet 8,500 and the big blind folded, Korenev called.

Both of the active players checked the {5-Clubs} on the river. Korenev mucked as soon as he was shown {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts} by his neighbor.

Jacks for O'Dwyer

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

With about 17,000 in the pot already, on a board reading {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}, a player in middle position checked and Steve O'Dwyer bet 12,000.

His opponent thought about it for a moment and eventually called.

The river was the {9-Diamonds}. The player in middle position checked again. O'Dwyer thought for a moment and bet 17,500. His opponent cut out some chips while deciding whether or not to call. He almost tossed his cards, but slid his pile of chips in the middle at the last second, indicating a call.

"Jacks?" asked O'Dwyer tabling {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}, wondering if they were any good. His opponent flashed {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a pair of tens with a jack kicker before tossing them into the muck.

Bernies Doubles Through O'Dwyer

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After a middle-position open to 1,600, Steve O'Dwyer made it 5,100 to go. Gilles Bernies piled in his 8,300 and the opener folded. O'Dwyer admitted he was just kidding and put in calling chips.

O'Dwyer: {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Bernies: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Bernies seemed a bit nervous but had no cause to be as the board rolled out {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{a-Spades}, giving him a full house.

Hinderoth Empties Gallon

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After Steve O'Dwyer raised to 1,600 under the gun, a short-stacked Jose Jimenez Gallon three-bet all in for 5,000 from middle position. Sweden's Sebastian Hinderoth then four-bet to 10,300 from the small blind and O'Dwyer got out of the way.

Hinderoth: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Gallon: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Gallon needed some major help, but it wasn't in the cards as the board ran out a useless {j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

Ortiz Drags Another; Korenev Out

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tito Ortiz opened for a min-raise and got a call from Ben Tollerene. The big blind made it 5,800 to go after another player called, and both Ortiz and Tollerene called to see a {q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop. Action checked to Ortiz, who bet 2,000. Tollerene called and the big blind came out raising with 8,000. Ortiz called and Tollerene folded. Check-check on the {3-Clubs} and again on the {a-Hearts}, and Ortiz opened {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for top pair on the end. His opponent sighed and mucked.

At a neighboring table, Roman Korenev got it in against Osvaldo Lewis' aces again with an unknown hand and was eliminated.

Dvoress Busts Newey

Niveau 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Daniel Dvoress opened the hijack with a raise to 2,000 and his neighbor Paul Newey shoved for about 17,500 from the cutoff. The button and both blinds released before Dvoress snap called.

Daniel Dvoress: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Paul Newey: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Newey hit the rail with just a few minutes to go for the day.

One table over, Ryan Riess doubled with queens all in against eights. He got his 39,300-stack back times two.
