Jake Schindler Leads the Final Six of Event #5: $10,000 No Limit Hold'em

Niveau 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Jake Schindler

The final six players have been confirmed for Event #5: $10,000 No Limit Hold'em in the US Poker Open. A star-studded final table will get underway on Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. PST with Jake Schindler leading the way.

Schindler bagged the top stack of 2,380,000 chips after running over a field of 67 entries. The day started off poorly for the American-born high-stakes poker pro, who managed to fire the maximum bullets by the time late registration closed. That's when things turned around for Schindler.

He worked his way up the leaderboard clashing with fellow high-roller, Adrian Mateos, on numerous occasions. Next thing you knew, Schindler was the only player with over a million chips. Schindler continued his climb when he sent Rainer Kempe home on the money bubble by winning another coin toss. When the tables got short and the stacks got shorter, that is when Schindler applied the most pressure. Mind you, the deck slapping him in the face didn't hurt as much it sounds either.

It won't be all smooth sailing for Schindler, as he will have two fellow American poker pros breathing down his neck. Ryan Riess (1,375,000) and Ben Tollerene (1,265,000) are both sitting in the seven-figure club as well and will be looking to overtake Schindler for that top spot.

The day started off with a mere 20 some entries but that number grew in a hurry. The players came to splash around some chips as many of them headed to the registration desk to fire multiple bullets. When all was said and done, there were a total of 67 entries that made up a prizepool of $670,000.

Some of the familiar faces to come and go included Daniel Negreanu, Benjamin Pollak, Isaac Haxton, Adrian Mateos, Justin Bonomo, Nick Schulman, Erik Seidel, and even the US Poker Open money leader, Stephen Chidwick, hit the rail after one entry.

Once Kempe burst the money bubble, a couple of the short stacks quickly followed him out the door. David Peters and Keith Tilston both picked up min-cashes, while Brent Hanks lasted a little longer to finish in eighth place. Schindler ended the evening when short-stacked Ben Yu pushed all in from under the gun with {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and the chip leader had an easy call with {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}. The board ran out clean for Schindler and Yu ended his tournament run in seventh place.

Ben Yu Eliminated in 7th Place ($33,500)

Ben Yu
Ben Yu

Ben Yu was under the gun and on the short stack. He looked down at his cards and moved all in for 257,000. The action folded around to Jake Schindler in the big blind who snap-called after taking a peek at his own cards.

Jake Schindler: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Ben Yu: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

It was race situation and Yu would need to connect with the board to keep his tournament hopes alive. The flop came {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Schindler was still in the lead. The {4-Hearts} on the turn and the {8-Clubs} on the river were of no help to Yu as he was eliminated in seventh place.

The final six players will no bag up their chips and return at 12:00 P.M. PST for the final table to be live-streamed on PokerGO starting at 1:00 P.M.

After doubling up to around 220,000, the action folded to Brent Hanks in the small blind who pushed all in again. Ryan Riess looked down at his cards in the big blind and instantly made the call.

Ryan Riess: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Brent Hanks: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Hanks was dominated by Riess' premium holding and would need some help in order to stay alive. The board ran out {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades} and Hanks was left drawing dead by the turn. The final seven players will now assemble on one table.

Jake Schindler opened to 32,000 from under the gun and Cary Katz just called in the cutoff. Keith Tilston was in the big blind and moved all in for around 190,000. Schindler quickly mucked his cards and Katz called rather quickly.

Cary Katz: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Keith Tilston: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

The flop came {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Tilston looked poised to double up. The dealer burned and turned the {k-Clubs} and Katz jumped out front with a pair of kings. The {7-Diamonds} completed the board and Tilston was sent to the rail in ninth place.

Brent Hanks opened to 35,000 from under the gun and Ryan Riess called from the cutoff. David Peters shipped all in for 190,000 in the small blind and the action folded back to Riess, who quickly made the call.

Ryan Riess: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
David Peters: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Peters was ahead with the superior pocket pair but he was up against a red-hot Riess. The flop came {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Peters still held onto the lead. However, the {7-Spades} on the turn gave Riess a set of sevens and the {7-Hearts} on the river was just salt in the wound for Peters. Riess improved to quads and Peters was eliminated in 10th place.

Rainer Kempe Bursts the Money Bubble

Niveau 16 : 7,000/14,000, 14,000 ante
Rainer Kempe
Rainer Kempe

Jake Schindler opened to 32,000 from the hijack. Rainer Kempe counted out his chips while scoping out the other table before he shipped all in for 200,000 in the cutoff. The action folded back around to Schindler who made the call.

Jake Schindler: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Rainer Kempe: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Kempe found himself flipping for his tournament life on the bubble. The flop came {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and the German pro was in dire straits with Schindler holding the best hand and a flush draw. The {4-Clubs} on the turn sealed the deal and insignificant {10-Spades} completed the board. Kempe was eliminated on the money bubble and the remaining 10 players are all guaranteed at least $20,100.

Lucky Ducks for Riess

Niveau 15 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Ryan Riess limped in from the small blind and Dan Smith made it 42,000 to go from the big blind. Riess called and then checked when the flop came {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Smith continued for 25,000 and Riess check-raised to 68,000. Smith called to see the {2-Hearts} pair the board on the turn.

Riess checked this time and Dan Smith pushed in a bet of 140,000. Riess check-raised all in for 423,000 and Smith made the call. Riess tabled {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} for quad deuces and Smith was left drawing dead with {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. When the chips were counted, Smith was left with just 3,000 and would go on to bust on the next hand.

Riess started his journey up the leaderboard when he flopped a set of deuces earlier on in the day. Along with Smith, Adrian Mateos left his seat after he busted to Jake Schindler, leaving just 11 players remaining. The two tables will now be hand-for-hand on the money bubble.

Reilly Not Rewarded for a Good Call

Niveau 13 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Tim Reilly
Tim Reilly

Tim Reilly raised to 18,000 on the button and was called by Cary Katz in the small blind. Ben Tollerene was in the big blind and jammed all in for 265,000. This was the second time in as many orbits that Tollerene shoved on Reilly's open, and this time Reilly took a stand and made the call. Katz quickly got out of the way as the two remaining hands were tabled.

Ben Tollerene: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Tim Reilly: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Reilly made a good call but it quickly turned sour as the flop came {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, giving Tollerene a pair of tens. The {4-Spades} on the turn and the {8-Diamonds} on the river were no help to Reilly as he was sent to the rail.

Riess Wins Massive Hand Before the Break

Niveau 9 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

The action folded to Ryan Riess on the button who raised to 12,000. Almedin Imsirovic three-bet to 42,000 in the small blind and Riess called to see a flop.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Imsirovic led out for 30,000. Riess just called and the {10-Clubs} landed on the turn. Imsirovic checked this time and Riess fired out a bet of 65,000. Imsirovic called and the {j-Hearts} paired the board on the river.

One more check from Imsirovic and Riess jammed all in. Imsirovic counted out his 140,000 chip stack and realized this was the last hand before the break. He called it off and Riess tabled {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a full house.

Katz Continues to Steamroll

Niveau 5 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Cary Katz
Cary Katz

Cary Katz has gotten himself off to a good start in the opening levels of Event #5. He once again looked down a monster holding of {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} on the button. Before the action could be figured out, Katz and his opponent in the hijack were all in with the cards face up.

Katz was up against his opponent's {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and the flop of {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} was spread. However, the {a-Clubs} on the turn came as no surprise as Katz jumped out front. The {4-Hearts} on the river sealed the deal and Katz raked in another sizeable pot to move over 500,000.
