Day 3 Begins with 167 Players Returning for $1,000 DOUBLE STACK No-Limit Hold'em

Mike Del Vecchio
Mike Del Vecchio

It is often considered “moving day” in sports, the second-to-last day before a champion is crowned. Such will be the case for Day 3 of Event #34: $1,000 DOUBLE STACK No-Limit Hold'em where there will be 167 players returning to the felt at 12:00 p.m. local time trying to move themselves into a position to capture the title and the coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

Daniel Colpoys will lead the field to start today with 1,405,000 after an impressive run on Monday. Colpoys has already cashed in three previous events this summer and has held the end-of-day chip lead more than once. This time he will be hoping to make sure he doesn't squander the advantage. He is closely followed by David Kaiura (1,237,000), Yosuke Sekiya (1,208,000), Osman Ihlamur (1,067,000), Steven Tymms (1,062,000), and Tomas Teran Paredes (1,009,000) as the only players with seven-figure stacks.

Among the other notables to keep an eye out for as the action unfolds is Mike Del Vecchio (888,000) who has over $1.7 million in career tournament earnings. Del Vecchio's largest cash came at a WPT event in December of 2017 but he is still in search of his first ever WSOP bracelet. November Niner Jeremy Ausmus is also still in the field and will bring 516,000 chips to the felt when the action resumes. Ausmus' deep run in the WSOP Main Event came in 2012 where he finished in fifth place for over $2.1 million.

Pfizer Jordan (738,000), Tony Dunst (571,000), Nipun Java (498,000), Matt Berkey (473,000), and Bryan Piccioli (352,000) will also be ones to watch as the day continues. Everyone returning already has $4,215 locked up, but the real pay jumps won't happen until the final table. A ninth-place finish will be worth $56,891 while the winner will take home a whopping $644,224.

The action is scheduled to resume at 12:00 p.m. with Level 21 where the blinds are 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 ante. There will be another full ten 60-minute levels to be played on Day 3 before the final players return on Day 4 to declare a winner. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level (~5:30 p.m.).

Continue to follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team for all of the live updates throughout the event.

Patterson Runs Into Aces

Niveau 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

After a series of preflop raises, Thomas Patterson found himself all in for a little over 200,000 holding {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for him, Olivier Nagel woke up with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}, the only hand that put Patterson in trouble.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Nagel was still in the lead with his pocket aces. The turn brought the {a-Clubs} and Nagel locked up the win with a full house. Just to rub salt in the wound, the {k-Hearts} landed on the river to give Patterson a full house as well, but he was still sent to the payout desk.
