Lamb Folds to a "Nice Bluff"

Niveau 2 : 200/400, 0 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Robert Mizrachi may have very well scored the first knockout of the day when he knocked out a short stack, that had put his hopes on a gutshot and two pair. Jan-Peter Jachtmann has joined the field along with Kido Pham and Eddie Ochana.

Last but not least, Ben Lamb was involved in a massive pot against Naman Madan. More 70,000 were already in the middle and the river showed {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{2-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Lamb faced a bet pot-sized bet and eventually folded after both players had engaged in table chat.

Madan put Lamb on a set after the hand was all over and flashed his {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for just a pair of aces. "Nice bluff," Lamb replied and confirmed he had folded nine-ten for the bottom end of the straight, retrieving his cards out of the muck and showing {Q-}{10-}{9-}{8-}.

Han Busts in Very First Hand

Niveau 2 : 200/400, 0 ante
William Huntress
William Huntress

Not long ago Edward Han walked into the tournament area and took a seat over on table 455. However, he only lasted exactly one hand after going to war with William Huntress. The duo got their chips in preflop and the following cards were tabled:

Edward Han: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
William Huntress: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Huntress got there with the runner-runner flush to eliminate Han.

Soon after, Huntress took on David Fink. After betting the {Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop from under the gun, Huntress checked the {3-Spades} turn and Fink checked back from one seat over. The {10-Diamonds} fell on the river and Huntress bet 10,000, which Fink called. Huntress rolled over the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a full house and scooped another pot.

Karakitukov Triples Up in Spectacular Fashion

Niveau 2 : 200/400, 0 ante
Veselin Karakitukov
Veselin Karakitukov

On a three-way flop of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, Jason Mercier had checked over to Ryan D'Angelo in the hijack, who made it 13,000 to go. Veselin Karakitukov on the button called and Mercier raised the pot to 57,400. D'Angelo called and Karakitukov then pushed all in over the top, Mercier and D'Angelo also ended up all in.

Veselin Karakitukov: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Ryan D'Angelo: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Jason Mercier: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Both D'Angelo and Mercier had flopped the nut straight and had a redraw to a better straight while Karakitukov needed the board to pair. The {2-Hearts} turn was a blank, but the {J-Diamonds} on the river brought the help for the Bulgarian, who tripled up for 112,100. D'Angelo and Mercier were left short as a result.

Two years ago, Karakitukov finished 5th in this very event and is on the best way for another deep run.

Winter Comes, Goes, and Returns Again

Ben Tollerene

There was a substantial pot already brewing and the board read {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} when we got to the table. Sean Winter, one of the recent late entries, had checked from the big blind and Ben Tollerene bet from the button. Winter check-raised pot to 59,850, Tollerene jammed, and Winter called to put himself at risk.

Sean Winter: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Ben Tollerene: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

"You're ahead, but I think I'm going to be playing these two by the end," said Tollerene as he gestured to the {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} half of his tabled hand. The {K-Clubs} on the turn kept winter in the lead, but the {6-Hearts} river gave Tollerene the nut flush to take the pot and stack Winter. He immediately re-entered and is now sitting with a fresh stack.

McDermott Busts to Wang

David Wang

With the completed board showing {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and more than 60,000 already in the middle, Tim McDermott moved all in for his last 43,500. He faced big stack David Wang and the latter gave it some thought before tossing in two green T-25,000 chips.

McDermott nodded and rolled over his {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for kings up and a busted flush draw, while Wang had the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for the nut straight.

Mercier Busts on First Bullet

Two short stacks clashed and it was Jason Mercier that ended up all in and at risk against Edward Hatzakortzian.

Jason Mercier: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Edward Hatzakortzian: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

The {J-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop was a sweat for Mercier with the open-ended straight draw, however, the {A-Hearts} turn and {A-Clubs} river both bricked off. "Chop it up?" Mercier joked and promised to be back soon for the second bullet.

Tollerene Takes From Varnell

Ben Tollerene

Craig Varnell raised to 2,400 from under the gun and Ben Tollerene, who was next to act, three-bet to 8,400. Action folded back around to Varnell and he called.

The two players saw a flop of {K-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and they both checked.

The {A-Hearts} fell on the turn and Varnell checked. Tollerene bet 15,000 and Varnell called.

The river brought the {4-Hearts} and Varnell checked. Tollerene bet again, 45,000 this time, sending Varnell into the tank. He cut out calling chips and moved them into the middle after about half a minute. Tollerene tabled {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for top two pair, Varnell mucked, and Tollerene took the pot to put his stack over the 300,000-chip mark.

There were about 10,000 chips in the middle and a flop of {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Hearts} was on the table when we arrived. Defending champion James Calderaro bet 7,000 from under the gun and William Huntress called from the hijack.

The turn brought the {5-Clubs} and Calderaro checked. Huntress bet 12,000 and Calderaro called.

The {9-Clubs} hit the river and both players checked. Calderaro tabled {6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and his set of fours was good enough to win the pot.

With about 7,000 chips in the middle and the board reading {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, Peter Hernandez checked from the small blind and Anthony Zinno bet 3,000 from the button. Hernandez called.

The turn brought the {Q-Diamonds} and Hernandez checked. Zinno bet 11,500, Hernandez check-raised to 38,000, and Zinno called.

The {J-Hearts} hit the river and Hernandez bet 41,000, sending Zinno into the tank. He eventually called and Hernandez announced "flush." Zinno flipped over {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and took the substantial pot with nines full of jacks.
