Day 4 of Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship Set to Begin at Noon

Howard Mash

The bracelet champion is set to be decided today in Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship. The original plan for this event was to play down to six players on Day 3, but after 10 levels of grinding on Saturday 19 players still remained. Those players come back to the Amazon Room today for a 12 noon start and will play down to a winner.

Some of the big stacks in contention for the$662,594 first-place prize money include Day 2 and Day 3 chip leader Howard Mash (13,990,000), who is seeking the first six-figure payday of his career.

EPT champion Jean-Rene Fontaine (12,250,000) looks to add his first WSOP bracelet to his poker resume, while other contenders still in the hunt include Farhad Jamasi (10,4525,000), Alan Ho (10,065,000) and Dennis Brand (9,045,000).

Play will begin at Level 31 today, with the blinds at 80,000-160,000. More than half of the remaining 19 players begin Day 4 with 40 big blinds or more, so it really is anybody’s bracelet to win as the $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship comes to its conclusion. The field will play one-hour levels, with 15-minute breaks after every two levels and a dinner break time to be determined.

There are no former WSOP bracelet winners left in the field, so whoever comes away with the championship will be a guaranteed first-time bracelet winner.

Stay with the PokerNews live reporting team throughout the day as a champion will be crowned at the Rio felt.

Dane Nielsen Eliminated in 19th Place ($28,772)

Niveau 31 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Dane Nielsen
Dane Nielsen

Dane Nielsen and Jean-René Fontaine arrived at a flop of {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} in a battle of the blinds. Nielsen, on the small blind, went all in for his remaining 3,000,000 chips, and Fontaine called.

Dane Nielsen: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Jean-René Fontaine: {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Nielsen was well ahead, and was still safe on the turn {5-Spades}. The river was brutal for Nielsen, however, as the {3-Clubs} fell to complete the gutshot straight for Fontaine

Peter Mullin Eliminated in 18th Place ($28,772) and Paul Ferdiani Eliminated in 17th Place ($28,772)

The same hand saw two more players hit the rail at the same time. Third time shoving was not the charm for Peter Mullin, who was all in for 80,000 again in early position. Button Paul Ferdiani moved all in too for 1,350,000 and action passed to James Mcnurlan. He tanked for a good minute or so, before calling.

Mcnurlan: {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Mullin: {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Ferdiani: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

A queen was in the door, spurring Mullin's hopes for yet another double, but the {a-Diamonds} on the turn pipped both players' pairs and we are paused for a redraw, 16 remaining.

Valerie Roussel-Galle Eliminated in 15th Place ($36,287)

Valerie Roussel-Galle

It continues to be a tough day for premium pocket pairs. Following Dane Nielsen's elimination with pocket aces, Valerie Roussel-Galle just busted out with pocket kings.

Valerie Roussel-Galle: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
James McNurlan: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Everything looked good for Roussel-Galle through the turn on the board {2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, but the river brought disaster for Roussel-Galle as the {a-Hearts} came to give McNurlan the win.

Fontaine Jams Big Stack, "Just Like That"

Niveau 32 : 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Jean-René Fontaine
Jean-René Fontaine

Jean-René Fontaine has proven time and again that he's not afraid to put his chips in the middle, whether short or wielding one of the largest stacks in the room. When Adam Richardson opened for 375,000 in the cutoff, he announced, "All in," which covered Richardson's 12,000,000 or so. This all-or-nothing bet against another very hefty stack gave Richardson pause.

"The whole ten million, just like that. Wheeeee," said Richardson. "I wish you spoke English so we could have a little chat." Fontaine, not the most garrulous at the table in any language, showed Richardson his {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

"I owe you a show," Richardson promised.

Dennis Brand
Dennis Brand

Dennis Brand opened on the button, James McNurlan reraised from the small blind, and Brand went over the top for the rest of what was an 11-million chip stack at the beginning of the hand. Put to the test, McNurlan made the call and the biggest pot of the tournament unfolded.

Dennis Brand: {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
James McNurlan: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

McNurlan passed the test with flying colors in this huge spot, and his ace-king held up on the {8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{a-Spades} runout. McNurlan is now the chip leader at 24.8 million chips.

Alan Ho, James McNurlan and Mats Karlsson went three ways to the flop of {6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}. The action checked to Karlsson on the button, who went all in for the last of his 4-million stack.

Ho folded, and McNurlan called from the cutoff.

Mats Karlsson: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
James McNurlan: {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

MuNurlan's huge start to Day 4 continues, as the runout {8-Spades}{j-Spades} sealed the bustout.

Roger Stewart's roller-coaster of a level - along with his tournament - has come to an end. His final hand saw him run a flopped two pair with {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} into the turned trips of Mansour Alipourfard ({k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}) on a board of {7-Clubs}{k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Alipourfard checked, Stewart moved in and received a swift call, drawing dead to the {3-Hearts} river.

Ali Zihni, down to 1,975,000, found a spot and a hand, king-jack off-suit, to move all-in. Chip monster James Mcnurlan threw in a call with {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. The board's only face card to emerge was a queen ({4-}{2-}{2-}{2-}{q-}) and Zihni's quest for a first WSOP final table spot comes to an end.
