Wasicka In Early

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Paul Wasicka was in his seat right at the 12 p.m. start time for Day 1b. Wasicka owns the biggest runner-up payday in WSOP Main Event history, netting $6,102,499 for finishing second to Jamie Gold in 2006.

Wasicka hasn't been particularly active in tournament poker across the last decade, but he has cashed in the Main a couple of times since the career best score in 2006. Those results came in 2009 (480th for $25,027) and 2013 (493rd for $24,480).

Wasicka has $7,885,747 in lifetime earnings, and he'll be seeking his fourth career Main Event cash in this year's tournament.

Sister Sister

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Sisters Kimberly Frost and Cheryl Naylor both begin their WSOP Main Event campaign today and they have been seated at neighboring tables in Amazon Purple.

Frost has already made the money three times this series and is "super excited" to play the Main Event, whilst Naylor is looking for her first cash of the series.

The King of the Chicken Wing Arrives

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Frank Stepuchin has just arrived in the Amazon Tan section.

Just a few days ago, Stepuchin finished in tenth-place in the partypoker MILLIONS Vegas event to top a year that includes capturing his first major victory after he won the Season XVII WPT Gardens Poker Championship for $548,825.

Stepuchin may only sit with $978,985 in lifetime earnings, but his true claim to fame is the fun he brings to the table.

Known for buying an entire tournament a round of drinks on several occasions, Stepuchin can also be seen sporting his famous chicken wing that came into light during last year's WSOP Main Event. For people that didn't know, the chicken that he kept on the end of a fork was a real piece of chicken.

Stepuchin has recently upgraded his real chicken for a more table friendly plastic chicken wing. Hopefully the plastic one will bring him as much luck as the real one as he looks to add to his great start to 2019.

Vornicu Off to an Aggressive Start

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

In a three-bet pot, Valentin Vornicu was heads-up on the button with the player in the small blind. The flop came {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and the small blind led out for 1,500. Vornicu raised to 5,500 and his opponent called.

The turn brought the {2-Diamonds} and the small blind quickly checked. Vornicu tossed in a bet of 8,000 and his opponent finally sent her cards to the muck.

While Vornicu has the second-most WSOP circuit rings with 12, but he has yet to claim his first WSOP gold bracelet. What a great tournament it would be for him to do so.

Notables From Brasilia Blue and Bronze

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Over on the Brasilia Bronze section, one particular table stands out. It includes WSOP Circuit crusher Valentin Vornicu, Jeff Sarwer, and mixed game specialist Yueqi Zhu. Just a few days ago, Zhu missed out on back-to-back bracelets in the Omaha Mix event, which he final-tabled for the third year running.

Aces Versus Kings First Hand for de Laat

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Bas de Laat
Bas de Laat

Dylan Linde arrived when a big pot was brewing in the very first hand of the day over on table 13 in the Brasilia Blue section as Bas de Laat had raised and was met with a three-bet to 2,000 by Jerry Payne from one seat over in the cutoff. The Dutchman opted for a four-bet to 6,000 and Payne called.

On the {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, de Laat continued for 4,000 and Payne came along to see the {9-Spades} turn. Both players slowed down and checked, and did so again on the {10-Diamonds} river. De Laat turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and Payne open-mucked {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} to trigger some "wowwws" on the table.

Cohen Starts the Day With Kings

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Gary Cohen bet 2,500 into a pot of 7,000 on a {4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} board from middle position, and Yusuke Takahashi called in the hijack. Enrique Gomez raised to 6,500 from the cutoff, and only Cohen called.

Both players checked the {7-Clubs} river, and Gomez tabled {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Cohen turned over his {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, and won a nice pot on his first hand in Day 1b.

Barstool's Smitty Folds Turn

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action folded to Barstool Sports' Adam Smith in the cutoff, and he raised to 600.

Stanley Spaulding called in the small blind, and Paulino Junior called from the big blind as the {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop checked through.

The turn fell the {7-Diamonds}, and after Spaulding checked, Junior bet 800. Smith and Spaulding folded, and Junior collected the pot.
