Chris Dotson Sees 2019 WSOP Poker Dream Come to an End

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Chris Dotson
Chris Dotson

Oddschecker competition winner Chris Dotson has seen his dream of winning the 2019 WSOP Main Event come to an end.

His elimination escaped us but Dotson was kind enough to fill us in on some details after the fact. As he told it, he had grown short and upon coming back from the dinner break found a spot to get his last 17,000 all in preflop holding {a-}{k-}.

He was up against two opponents who held {j-}{j-} and {k-}{q-} respectively. Dotson was looking for either an ace or king to take the lead, but instead, the board ran out with a queen to give the original worst hand the winner.

While Dotson's time in the Main Event is over his 2019 WSOP may not be. The 35-year-old boiler operator from New Jersey said he may yet fire the $1,111 Little One for One Drop.

Two Outs, Two Outs, One Out, One's Out

Cliff Josephy
Cliff Josephy

A wild hand just played out at Cliff Josephy's table, where Josephy had {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} in front of him, while his shell-shocked opponent held {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} on a {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} board.

Josephy had two-outed his opponent on the flop, then his opponent turned the tables and two-outed him on the turn. Josephy was able to hit the case seven on the river, and all the chips went in there, leaving Josephy with the pot and his opponent with one hell of a bad beat story to tell.

Kings Are Good for Eychenne

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The player under the gun raised to 3,300 and the player in middle position three-bet o 8,500. Thomas Eychenne, in the hijack, called. The button four-bet to 32,000. The player under the gun and the player in middle position folded. Eychenne took a minute of reflection, then stuck around with a call.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and Eychenne checked. His opponent bet 45,000 and Eychenne check-called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and was checked around to the {j-Hearts} river. Both players checked again. Eychenne tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and his opponent glanced at his cards one last time then threw them in the muck.

"Good call man, it really did feel like aces," said a player at the table to Eychenne.

Blake Bohn opened for 4,000 under the gun and got one caller in the hijack. On the {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop, Bohn continued for 6,000 and got called. He checked the {2-Clubs} turn and snap-called when his opponent shoved for about 31,000.

Bohn was fading only a ten, holding {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a set against {k-}{q-}. The river was an {a-Diamonds} and he collected the pot.

Lee Leaves Rojas Short

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Hon Cheong Lee bet 25,000 into about 40,000 from the big blind on a completed board of {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. That represented more than half of the remaining chips of Joseph Di Rosa Rojas, who was agonizing from the hijack.

He apologized for the time he was taking.

"Take your time, it's the Main Event... but hurry the f*** up," Chino Rheem cracked, eliciting some laughs.

Finally, Rojas flicked in two chips, but he was shown {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for queens full.

Riddle Wrapped Up in an Enigma

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jody Fayant
Jody Fayant

If a poker hand is possible, then odds are that it'll happen in this Main Event. With thousands of hands being played there sometimes just happens to be a complete oddity that stumps both players and dealers alike.

Bert Riddle opened to 5,000. Unbeknownst to him another player, Jody Fayant, had called on the button.

"Seeing as you showed earlier," Riddle said, pointing to a different player at the table. "I'll show. I'll be friendly." Riddle then exposed {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} face up on the table thinking he had won the hand.

The dealer pointed out that Fayant had called and the dealer said that the hand would continue but with Riddle's hand known to Fayant.

The flop was {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {k-Diamonds} and Riddle checked. Fayant bet 10,000 and Riddle called.

The river was the {9-Spades} and Riddle checked again and Fayant bet 10,000 again. Riddle called. Fayant showed {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for top pair and took down the pot.

Makhija Coolered Away by Davoudzadeh

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Farhad Davoudzadeh raised to 4,500 from early position, and Amit Makhija three-bet to 12,000 on the button. Davoudzadeh four-bet to 32,000, then called when Makhija five-bet shoved for around 44,000 total.

Amit Makhija: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Farhad Davoudzadeh: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

"Queen-ball?" Makhija said quietly, but no queen would fall on a {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} board to end his run.

Chamani Busts to Quads

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Matias Ruzzi raised to 3,500 and picked up one caller before Ronit Chamani moved all in for her last 24,500. Ruzzi asked for a count and made the call, the third player in the hand folded.

Ronit Chamani: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Matias Ruzzi: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

There were some gasps when not one but both remaining kings appeared right away on the {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, leaving Chamani drawing dead. Both the {7-Hearts} turn and the {a-Clubs} river were a mere formality.
