Day 1 of Event #2: $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. Begins at 3 p.m.

Perhaps the most anticipated WSOP in history begins today and gets right into one of the most prestigious events on the schedule. Event #2: $25,000 H.O.R.S.E., kicks off at 3 p.m. local time.

While No-Limit Hold'em tournaments dominate the WSOP schedule each year, mixed-game events are considered by some pros as the most coveted championships at each series. The $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. event marks a new addition to the WSOP calendar for 2021.

Spectators can expect a lineup of poker's most well-rounded players to fill out the field in this high-stakes mixed-game event. Daniel Negreanu has already announced his intentions to play in Event #2.

Before the advent of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship in 2010, the highest buy-in H.O.R.S.E. tournament offered at the WSOP each year was considered by some as the most prestigious event on the annual series schedule. The $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E event was introduced in 2006 and was renamed the Poker Players Championship, with an eight-game mix, in 2010.

Event #2 brings back the high-roller version of the H.O.R.S.E. format at the WSOP. The field will play through a five-game rotation that includes Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better.

Players start with 150,000 chips, and Day 1 action is scheduled for 10 one-hour levels. The field gets a 15-minute break after every two levels.

The limit flop games begin with 500/1,000 blinds and 1,000/2,000 limits. Stud games start with a 200 ante, 300 bring-in, and 1,000/2,000 limits.

Norman Chad will be in the field on Day 1. The iconic WSOP commentator sold pieces of his action on StakeKings, with all markup going to the Hope for Depression Research Foundation.

Winners from high-stakes mixed-game events at the 2019 WSOP included Greg Mueller ($10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship), Adam Friedman ($10,000 Dealers Choice 6-Handed Championship), and Phil Hui ($50,000 Poker Players Championship).

Stay tuned to the PokerNews live blog for updates on the $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. event!
