Event #49: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship

Jour 1 terminé

Sam Soverel
Sam Soverel

Day 1 of Event #49: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship has been played to completion with Sam Soverel emerging as the current chip leader with 454,500 in chips after 10 levels of play. Soverel is a regular in high-stakes tournaments and has amassed more than $16 million in live-tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob. Soverel will be looking to earn his second WSOP gold bracelet. His first bracelet came back in 2016 after he took down a $1,000 Omaha event. Not too far behind Soverel is fellow gold-bracelet winner Johannes Becker, who managed to bag 373,000 in chips by the day's end.

Day 1 got underway with just 11 players but would gradually build throughout the day until eventually topping the 91-player field from the same event in 2019 and ending at 106 entrants. That number is expected to grow as late registration is still available up until the start of Day 2.

As expected in any championship event, the field was laden with notables. Some who bagged into Day 2 include Julien Martini (338,500), Dan Shak (190,500), James Chen (149,000), Matt Vengrin (210,500), Chris Vitch (83,000), Scott Seiver (99,500), Nick Schulman (90,000), Ryan Leng (74,500), Benny Glaser (290,500) and Saya Ono (125,000), who is thus far the only female to enter the event.

A few less fortunate, having busted twice and thus ineligible to re-enter, include Jake Daniels, Michael Noori, Galen Hall and Phil Hellmuth, who will have to wait until another event to continue his stellar WSOP run this year.

Day 2 will resume tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time. Play will begin at level 11 (1,500/3,000 with a 4,500 big blind ante) and is scheduled to play down until five players remain. Players will receive 10-minute breaks after every two hour-long levels and a 60-minute dinner break at the end of level 14 (approximately 8:30 p.m.)

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring all the No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw action leading to another WSOP champion!
