Welcome back for Day 2 of Event #66: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship that will get underway at 2 p.m. local time inside the Amazon Room of the Rio All-Suit Hotel and Casino. There will be at least 104 players returning to their seats of the 194 that entered the event on Day 1.

Leading the way is Brian Hastings who amassed a healthy stack of 477,000 chips in the opening 10 levels. Hastings already has four WSOP bracelets to his name but he will be looking to claim the top prize in the same event he finished in second place just two years ago. Hastings lost a heads-up battle with Nick Schulman who founds himself on the opposite end of the leaderboard after finishing Day 1 with just 29,500 chips.

Some other notables to keep an eye on heading to Day 2 include Tommy Chen (377,500), Chip Jett (308,500), Felipe Ramos (288,500), and Esther Taylor (240,000). The championship field is littered with former WSOP bracelet winners who will be looking to add to their collection. Anatolii Zyrin, Anthony Zinno, Yuval Bronshtein, and Josh Arieh have already claimed at least one title in 2021 and will be looking to put themselves in position once again as the tournament progresses.

The cards are scheduled to go in the air at 2 p.m. PST with another 10 levels of 60 minutes to be played on Day 2. Late registration will remain open until the start of play where each new entry will be granted a starting stack of 60,000 chips. The blinds will resume on level 11 at 1,000/2,500 with a big blind ante of 2,500. There will be a 60-minute dinner break after level 16 which will occur at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day.

Brandon Shack-Harris
Brandon Shack-Harris

Alan Sternberg raised it up from middle position and was called by Brandon Shack-Harris in the cutoff. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and both players checked to the {3-Hearts} on the turn.

With 19,000 in the middle, Sternberg led out with a bet of 15,000. Shack-Harris called and the {5-Spades} paired the board on the river. Sternberg pushed out a stack of chips, putting Shack-Harris to the test for his last 43,000.

Shack-Harris went into the tank for over four minutes before finally making the call. Sternberg rolled over {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and that was enough to send Shack-Harris to the rail.

Ryan Laplante
Ryan Laplante

Ryan Laplante raised to 12,000 on the button and Richie Allen called from the big blind. Both players put in 9,000 on the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop and then another 28,000 on the {4-Hearts} turn.

The river was the {9-Spades} and Allen dropped in a stack of chips, enough to put Laplante to the test for his remaining 56,000 chips. Laplante thought for a couple of minutes before finally making the call. Allen showed {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a full house with no low available. Laplante quickly flashed pocket queens as his high hand before his cards hit the muck.

With the all-in, each hand involved was tabled and it was the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the nut diamond flush held by Sklar that won the high, while the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for the nut low held by Force took down the low, and each bested the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{8-Hearts} held by Radanov.

With this hand Force survived his all-in, while Sklar chipped up to a comfortable 270,000.

Sternberg Eliminates Coultas; Money Bubble Bursts

Niveau 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Charles Coultas
Charles Coultas

All of the chips went into the middle preflop in the bubble hand between Alan Sternberg and Charles Coultas.

It was the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades} held by Sternberg that led the {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Spades} held by Coultas.

The dealer spread the flop of {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and Sternberg extended his lead with a top set of aces.

The turn card was the {10-Hearts} and that filled up and sealed the deal for Sternberg.

The meaningless river card {7-Diamonds} made it official. With aces full of tens, Sternberg was awarded the pot, which eliminated Coultas on the direct money bubble.
