Mixed Big Bet Returns To The World Series of Poker Today

Loren Klein
Loren Klein

As the World Series of Poker starts to wind down, there are still plenty more opportunities for players to get their hands on a gold bracelet. This includes the unique Event #74: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet which starts Sunday, November 14 at 3 p.m. PT.

Players will navigate a rotation of seven big bet flop or draw games (Big O, No-Limit Hold’em, No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw, Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better, No-Limit Five Card Draw High, Pot Limit Omaha, and Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw), over three days, with a champion crowned on Tuesday, November 16.

This year’s event marks just the fourth time it’s been on the WSOP schedule, with Loren Klein outlasting a field of 218 entries in 2019 to claim his fourth WSOP gold bracelet. Jens Lakemeier (2017) and Scott Bohlman (2018) are also previous winners of the event.

Players will begin the day with 35,000 chips and play ten 60-minute levels with 15-minute breaks every two levels.

With the amount of carnage possible in this mix of big bet games, one re-entry will be available to players should they bust before the end of level 8, which is when registration closes.

Stay close to PokerNews for all the wild swings and action from this event, and all the drama and excitement of every World Series of Poker event from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Hughes Hits Perfect Runout

Niveau 4
Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes

Big O

Ryan Hughes just eliminated an opponent with an insane runout that he just shared.

According to Hughes, he raised to 800 from the small blind and got a call from the big blind and the cutoff.

On a {j-}{8-}{7-} flop, Hughes bet 1,700, the big blind raised the size of the pot, the cutoff folded, then Hughes re-potted to put the big blind all-in and he called.

Big Blind Player: {a-}{2-}{7-}{7-}{5-}
Ryan Hughes: {a-}{a-}{k-}{7-}{2-}

Hughes' aces and nut-low draw were behind his opponent's set of sevens, but running {8-}{8-} came in for Hughes, giving him the better full house, and eliminating his opponent.

Liedkte Eliminates a Pair, Crosses 100,000

Niveau 5
Mark Liedtke
Mark Liedtke

On a flop of {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}, Ray Henson led out for the size of the pot and was raised all in by Mark Liedtke. Danny Noam called behind for 10,500 which put him all in as well. Henson called for approximately 7,000 more.

Danny Noam: {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Mark Liedtke: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Ray Henson: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The board ran out with the {6-Clubs} and {9-Hearts} and Liedtke's nine-high straight and ace-three for low were good enough to scoop a massive pot, eliminating both Henson and Noam, who have since re-entered the tournament.

Williams All-In Versus the World

Niveau 5
David Williams
David Williams

Pot-Limit Omaha

Before the flop, David Williams raised from the big blind to 4,800, leaving himself just over 3,000 behind. He got calls from Felipe Ramos in the cutoff and Pearce Arnold in the small blind.

Arnold checked the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop, and Willimas tossed in his remaining 3,100 chips. Ramos then raised to 15,000, which drew a reluctant fold from Arnold.

David Williams: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Felipe Ramos: {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Ramos had the world's fair of draws at his disposal, but Williams somehow dodged them all as the {6-Clubs} and {2-Spades} fell, boosting his stack to over 20,000.

Chait's Poker Blood Spilled By Kelsall

Craig Chait

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Just a couple of hands after winning the pot off of Cody Wells, Craig Chait was seen heading out the door in an even better example of how messy this game can get.

According to Andrew Kelsall who did the deed, Kelsall check-raised Chait all-in with {7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} and a two-sider with one draw remaining. After about a minute of deliberation, Chait called and opted to pat his hand.

After squeezing his final card from the previous draw, Kelsall saw that he had drawn a {5-} to make a wheel, eliminating Chait from the tournament and winning a 110,000 chip pot.

Hellmuth Getting Short, Still Drops Outstanding Soundbite

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Phil Hellmuth raised to 1,600 from the small blind into Anthony Ribeiro, who called. After Hellmuth drew one card, Ribeiro patted his hand.

Hellmuth thought briefly then opted to check. Ribeiro checked back, and Hellmuth said "You win".

Ribeiro showed {q-}{9-}{4-}{3-}{2-} which indeed was the winner, leaving Hellmuth short, with just 20,000 chips.

After the hand, Hellmuth said to Ribeiro, "Kid, warn me when there's six minutes left (in the level)", suggesting that he may make an effort to get the last of his chips in before late registration closes.

Hellmuth then continued, "There's only one problem. I'm allergic to getting my money in bad."

Fuchs Victimized By Huge PLO Cooler

Niveau 10
Carol Fuchs
Carol Fuchs

Pot-Limit Omaha

A massive pile of chips was just pushed to Asher Lower at the expense of Carol Fuchs who lost half her stack, and another player who busted.

The players at the table reconstructed the hand, saying that on a turn board reading {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}, the player in early position bet the size of the pot, Lower then moved all-in, and Fuchs called behind, covering both players. The original bettor called.

The hands were turned up, showing a huge cooler.

Early Position Player: {9-}{5-}{x-}{x-}
Asher Lower: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Carol Fuchs: {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

The original bettor had an inferior straight to Fuchs, who also had a set of eights, but Lower had top set of aces. That set would fill up and win him the huge pot as the {7-Clubs} fell on the river, pairing the board, and shipping the massive pot to Lower.
