Justin Geary emmène un field de spécialistes

Niveau 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Justin Geary
Justin Geary

Day 1 of Event #20: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw at the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas drew to a close after 15 levels and 11 hours of play. Leading the 116 survivors from an initial field of 350 is Justin Geary, sitting on a stack of 159,500. The turnout for this event smashed last year’s field of 285 and generated a prizepool of $467,250 with $108,250 and a WSOP gold bracelet slated to head the eventual winner’s way.

Geary is joined by just two other players on stacks of more than 200,000, namely Adam Kerbel (244,000) and Karl Tretter (222,000)

Several notables entered the fray, with big names such as Adam Friedman (130,500), Robert Mizrachi (149,500), Benny Glaser (108,500), Joe McKeehen (69,500) and Nick Schulman (51,000) all finding bags for Day 2. Schulman was at one point down to just 5,000 but span that short stack up late to end the night with a slightly below average number of chips.

Not joining them is last year’s winner, David “Bakes” Baker, who began the day well but lost steam in the later levels, ultimately losing his last few chips in Level 12 to Nathan Gamble. Other notables not to make Day 2 include reigning WSOP Main Event champion Koray Aldemir, who was felted fairly late in the day, as well as Tamon Nakamura, who fell to Abdel Hamid during the last level of the night.

No Repeat for Baker

David "Bakes" Baker
David "Bakes" Baker

Defending Champion David "Bakes" Baker was down to just one small bet and tossed his remaining 1,200 into the pot from middle position. Nathan Gamble three-bet from the cutoff and the remaining players got out of the way.

Both Baker and Gamble drew two cards on the first draw and one card on the second draw. On the final draw Baker and Gamble once again just took one card. Gamble turned up his hand, revealing {k-}{8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}. Baker had a draw to a lower hand, however, and would just need to find a non-ace that did not pair him up. Unfortunately for him, he squeezed a six, giving him a pair of sixes and ensuring that this year a new champion will be crowned in the $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw event.

Ohel Runs Down His Opponent

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Randy Ohel
Randy Ohel

Randy Ohel raised in the cutoff and was three-bet by the player on the button.

Ohel called and drew three, while the button player stood pat.

Ohel check-called a bet, improving to a two-card draw, then check-called again, needing only one on the final drawing round.

After peeking at his cards, Ohel put out a bet and his opponent begrudgingly called.

"Eight perfect", said Ohel as he fanned the {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} on the table.

His opponent mucked his hand and watched as the pot was pushed to the 2012 $2,500 champion in this event.

Leng Wins a Big One, Turner Left With Crumbs

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Ryan Leng
Ryan Leng

The player on the button raised and was called by Joshua Turner in the small blind and Ryan Leng out of the big blind.

Turner and Leng both took two cards while the player on the button stood pat. The blinds then checked and the player on the button continued his aggression with a bet. Turner raised only to see Leng re-raise. The button player and Turner both called to send the three players to the second draw, with an already large pot in the middle.

On the second draw Turner drew one while Leng and the button stood pat. Turner checked as did Leng but the player on the button, as he had done on the first draw, bet. For a second time Turner raised and received calls from both Leng and the button.

The third and final draw followed the same pattern, with only Turner drawing one card while his opponents both stood pat. Turner checked, Leng bet and was called by the button. Looking somewhat disgusted, Turner tossed his hand into the middle. Leng turned over {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for an unbeatable wheel and the button mucked.

"It's Always On the Last Draw"

Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

With multiple bets in the pot on the second draw, Allen Kessler stood pat while his opponent drew one.

Kessler bet in position after action was checked to him and he tossed out a bet, which was called.

On the final draw, the opponent still drew one against "The Chainsaw" who again patted his hand.

To Kessler's chagrin, the opponent led out after the final draw, leaving Kessler to comment, "It's always on the last draw".

After a bit of deliberation, Kessler sighed and called, with his opponent showing {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{2-} for number three, while Kessler bemoaned his {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} being run down at the end.

Cleeton Chipping Up with Brill at His Side

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Team Cleeton
Team Cleeton

Kenneth "KL" Cleeton has been having a blast in his first live 2-7 Triple Draw tournament, and while he was already having a great time with his dad Ken as his assistant, he seems to be enjoying himself even more with good friend Veronica Brill now at his side.

In a recent pot, Cleeton and the player in the small blind each drew two, with Cleeton betting after the first draw and his opponent calling.

On the second draw, Cleeton's opponent still needed two while Cleeton only drew one.

After action was checked to him again, Cleeton gave Brill the go-ahead to toss another bet out, this time receiving a fold from his opponent.

Cleeton grinned widely as Brill stacked his chips.

Dad Ken is still close by, but with Brill now in the seat, he's been temporarily relegated to beverage gathering duties for the team.

Kessler Eliminates Opponent

Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

The under the gun player raised and action folded to Allen Kessler on the button who three-bet. Both blinds got out of the way and the initial raiser called.

On the first draw, the under the gun player took three, which seemed to surprise Kessler, who only drew one. The under the gun player then checked to Kessler who bet-called the subsequent raise by his opponent.

The second draw saw the under the gun player draw one, while Kessler stood pat. The player under the gun check-jammed his remaining stack. Kessler called to put his opponent at risk and both players stood pat on the final draw.

The at risk player announced a rough eight, which was bested by Kessler's {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}, sending his opponent to the rail.

David "Bakes" Baker raised from the cutoff and was called by Nathan Gamble on the button and the big blind. The big blind and Gamble drew three while Baker drew one.

Baker bet when checked to and was only called by Gamble. Both players drew one.

This time Baker check called Gamble's bet and Baker chose to draw one while Gamble stayed pat.

Baker bet and Gamble snap called. Baker revealed {8-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{2-} but was beat by Gamble's {8-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-} who had a better eight-seven.

Friedman Four-Bets, Chips Up

Niveau 6 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Adam Friedman

The under the gun player raised and action folded to the player in the cutoff who three-bet. The button and small blind got out of the way to send the option to Adam Friedman in the big blind, who opted to four-bet. Both remaining players called to generate a sizable pot heading to the initial draw.

On the first draw Friedman drew one card while both other players took two. Friedman continued his aggression and led out with a bet. It was not enough to dissuade either the under the gun player or the cutoff, both of whom flatted.

The second draw saw all three players take just one card. Friedman was in no mood to slow down, however, and put out another bet. Again, the other two players called to keep the action three handed heading to the final draw.

For the third draw, Friedman stood pat and then checked following the single card draw from both the under the gun and cutoff players. They both checked back and Friedman showed down {8-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{3-} which was met by two quick mucks to send some much needed chips Friedman's way.
