Dix's River Bet Takes it Down

Niveau 2 : 200/300, 300 ante

Action was picked up with 2,100 in the pot and a flop of {j-Spades}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} having just hit the table. Tim Dix led from under the gun for 800 before the small blind put in a raise to 3,000. The big blind got out of the way before Dix, after asking for a clear view of his opponent's remaining stack, put in the call.

The heads up action was checked through on the {k-Spades} turn, giving way to the {5-Hearts} river. The small blind fired for 2,200. After a bit of thought, Dix put in the raise to 9,000. After several minutes of thought, his opponent made the fold, asking Dix to show the bluff.

"I had aces," his opponent remarked.

"Pocket Kings" Dix told him. Neither player showed any hole cards, as Dix scooped the pot, claiming to have turned a set.

Defending Champion Distenfeld Out

Niveau 2 : 200/300, 300 ante
Gershon Distenfeld
Gershon Distenfeld

On a board reading {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs}, last year's winner of this event, Gershon Distenfeld, on the button was involved in a three-way pot with an under-the-gun player and John Walker from early position.

Distenfeld announced all in for his remaining 13,000 and received a quick fold from the under-the-gun player. Walker went into the tank but ultimately made the call.

"You've got me" said Distenfeld, turning over {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. Walker was in fact ahead with {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and would need to fade clubs and kings heading to the river. He did just that as the {a-Spades} fell to score the early double-up and in the process eliminate the defending champion.

Distenfeld went over to Walker to shake his hand and congratulate him on the "nice call" before exiting the tournament area.

Konnikova Gives It Up

Niveau 2 : 200/300, 300 ante

Maria Konnikova opened to 700 from under the gun. Action folded around to the big blind, who defended.

The big blind checked to Konnikova on the {10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop and the preflop raiser continued for 600. The player in the big blind did not hesitate before counting out a raise to 1,700. Konnikova flatted to send the two players to the turn.

The turn came {8-Diamonds} and the big blind led out for 2,200, eliciting a fold from Konnikova.

Frankel Rivers a Set to Knockout Opponent

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante

The heads-up action was picked up with around 5,000 in the pot and a board of {5-Spades}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

The small blind led for 2,500. Harry Frankel, from middle position, put in the call.

On the {8-Hearts} turn, the small blind fired for another 4,500. Frankel quickly made the call.

The {9-Clubs} river elicited an all-in shove from the small blind with about 12,000 behind. Frankel, who had his opponent covered, made the call.

"Either got really lucky or really unlucky," Frankel remarked as he turned over {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}, showing he had made a set on the river. Upon seeing this, his opponent tossed his hand in the muck, gathered his things, and left the table while Frankel scooped the pot.

Berkowitz Ousts Riess

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

The 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess was short stacked and shoved his remaining 3,500 into the middle from under the gun. Connor Berkowitz one seat over re-jammed for 9,700 and was called by the player to his left, who had both Riess and Berkowitz covered. The remaining players at the table got out of the way.

Ryan Riess: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Connor Berkowitz: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Early Position Player: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

"Do you want the chicken power?" asked Frank Stepuchin, who was also at the table, of Riess. The offer was politely declined prior to the {k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop. The {2-Hearts} turn kept the pocket sevens ahead but Berkowtiz nailed the {10-Clubs} river, giving him an almost full triple-up and knocking out Riess.

Chang Doubles Up with Trips

Niveau 3 : 200/400, 400 ante

Action was picked up on the river. With about 10,000 already in the middle, the board had been dealt {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

The small blind fired for 3,500 before Tim Chang, in the cutoff, moved all in with the effective stack of 12,600. His opponent thought for a bit, before finally making the call. Chang turned over {5-Spades}{7-Spades}, good for trips on the flop. His opponent tossed his hand in the muck, giving the pot to Chang.
