Day 1 of Event #31: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship at the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas drew to a close after ten-levels and 11 hours of play with 43 of the original 102 entrants finding a bag for Day 2. The field could still grow, however, with late registration open until the start of play on Wednesday.

Leading the survivors is Oscar Johansson from Sweden with a stack of 293,000. Hot on his heels are Brian Hastings (292,000) and 2018 WSOP Player of the Year Shaun Deeb (286,000). Both Hastings and Deeb have five WSOP bracelets each.

The turnout for this year's event has already surpassed last year's total of 90 entries and, in doing so, generated a prize pool of $951,150. Though exact payouts will not be confirmed until the late registration period closes, the eventual winner of this event will receive over $200,000 in addition to a coveted WSOP gold bracelet.

As one would expect of a tournament with a $10,000 buy-in, the event attracted many notable players, including Jeremy Ausmus (250,000), who was the beneficiary of a huge four-way pot, and Phil Hellmuth (132,000) who entered late in the day but managed to spin up his stack quickly courtesy of making a wheel in two consecutive hands.

Big names to enter but not find a bag include Daniel Negreanu, Scott Seiver and Phil Ivey, the latter of whom brought an entire filming crew entourage with him to the event. Defending champion Brian Yoon was also unable to advance to Day 2, meaning a new winner will be crowned this year.

The remaining players return for Day 2 Wednesday, June 15th, 2 p.m. PST, and will play out seven levels of 90-minutes. Be sure to tune in as the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to provide coverage of this and every other event at the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Glaser Finds a Fold, Busts Soon After

Niveau 10
Benny Glaser
Benny Glaser

Action folded around to Benny Glaser on the button, who opened. David Benyamine gave up his small blind but Jeremy Ausmus defended out of the big blind.

Ausmus took three on the initial draw to Glaser's two and followed that up with a bet. Glaser made the call to send the two players heads up to the second draw.

On the second draw Ausmus drew one card and Glaser took two. Ausmus again led out and once more Glaser called.

Following the final draw, Ausmus fired off a third bet. Glaser thought long and hard about his decision before asking Ausmus if he could "ask Mike's [Thorpe] opinion". Ausmus peeked at his cards before replying, "sure" and Glaser folded, leaving himself with just 11,000.

Shortly after the hand Glaser was seen exiting the tournament area, having busted shortly before the end of Day 1.

Hellmuth Makes Consecutive Wheels, Eliminates Vengrin

Niveau 10

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth was all in after patting his third draw against Oscar Johansson, who drew one final card. Hellmuth turned over a wheel, and Johansson mucked his hand.

On the very next hand, Hellmuth's three-bet was called by Dan Zack and Matt Vengrin. Hellmuth led out after the first draw and was called by both players. Another bet from Hellmuth after drawing one got a fold from Zack, but Vengrin raised and both players put their remaining chips in the pot. Hellmuth patted while Vengrin drew one, and was not happy to see that his number two was no good. Hellmuth made a second consecutive wheel to climb above starting stack.

Ausmus Wins Massive Pot

Niveau 10
Jeremy Ausmus

Mike Thorpe opened from middle position and Benny Glaser three-bet from the cutoff. Jeremy Ausmus cold four-bet out of the small blind and received calls from the big blind player as well as Thorpe and Glaser to generate a large pot even before the initial draw.

On the first draw, Ausmus and Glaser both took one, while the big blind player and Thorpe each drew two. The action then checked to Glaser, who led out. He could not shed any of his opponents, however, all of whom flatted.

The second draw saw Ausmus, the big blind player, and Glaser take one card and Thorpe two. Ausmus now bet out and was called by the player in the big blind. Thorpe got out of the way, and Glaser called to send the three remaining players to the third draw.

Ausmus stood pat on the final draw while the big blind player and Glaser both took one more card. Ausmus then fired off another bet and got a fold out of the player in the big blind. Glaser thought for a moment before putting out a raise. Ausmus made the call and Glaser mucked. "Did you not believe me?", asked Ausmus of Glaser as the former turned over {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} to take down what may very well be the largest pot of the tournament so far. Glaser, meanwhile, was left with crumbs.

Bleznick Exits Quickly, But Not Quietly

After registering during this level, Jared Bleznick was playing one big pot after another. Bleznick lost much of his stack after drawing five and betting dark, which did not end well.

Two hands later, Bleznick was all in with a single card on his third draw. Bleznick made a number four, but it wasn't enough to beat his opponent's number two bringing a quick end to his night.

Seiver On Fumes, Eliminated Shortly After

David "ODB" Baker opened from under the gun and Scott Seiver called from one seat over. The remaining players got out of the way to send the two heads-up to the initial draw.

On the first draw, both Baker and Seiver drew two cards. Baker then checked to Seiver, who decided to bet. Baker made the call.

The second draw saw Baker take two cards to Seiver's one. Baker checked again and Seiver fired off another bet. This time Baker opted to raise and Seiver flatted.

Baker stood pat on the final draw while Seiver took another card. Action then checked through and Baker showed down {10-}{8-}{7-}{4-}{2-} for a winner. Seiver, meanwhile, was left with just 15,000 or 2.5 big bets.

Shortly after the completion of the hand Seiver was seen exiting the tournament area.

Tran Almost Doubles Up

JC Tran
JC Tran

JC Tran opened in the cutoff and action folded to Benny Glaser in the big blind. As Glaser was eyeing Tran's short stack, Tran told Glaser he had 14,000 behind before saying, "C'mon baby, double me up". Glaser, perhaps not wanting to grant Tran his wish just yet, called.

On the first draw Glaser took one card to Tran's two. He then checked to Tran, who threw out a bet. Glaser made the call to send the two to the second draw.

Both players drew one on the second draw and action checked through to the final draw where again they each took just one card. At this point Glaser checked and Tran fired off a bet, leaving himself 1,500 behind. Glaser did not take too long before making the call and was shown {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, a hand he could not beat. Though Tran did not in fact receive a full double-up, he will undoubtedly be satisfied chipping up prior to the final break of the day. Glaser, meanwhile, has struggled to get much momentum going throughout Day 1.

GG Poker Ambassador Felipe Ramos opened on the button and was called by Matt Vengrin out of the big blind.

Both players took two cards on the initial draw and action checked through to the second draw, where Vengrin stood pat and Ramos took another two. Vengrin led out and Ramos made the call.

"I think I'm going to have the best hand, you might have to draw two", Vengrin said as he stood pat. Ramos did not heed his opponent's advice, instead drawing just one card. Vengrin, as it turned out, had been mistaken as Ramos revealed he held {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} having drawn the six on the end to scoop the pot and move up the leaderboard.

Zhu Out, Brown the Beneficiary

Niveau 7

Yueqi Zhu was all in from under the gun and involved in a four-way pot with Andrew Brown in middle position, Joey Couden in the cutoff and Vladislav Denisov from the big blind.

On the first draw Denisov, Brown and Couden all took one card while Zhu drew two. Denisov then led out and was raised by Brown. Couden flatted as did Denisov.

The second draw saw Denisov and Brown stand pat, Zhu take another two and Couden draw one. Denisov opted to check to Brown, who bet out and was called by both Couden and Denisov.

Denisov and Brown again stood pat on the final draw. Meanwhile, Zhu and Couden drew one each. Denisov checked and Brown bet, which was enough to force Couden out of the hand, sending the action back to Denisov. He counted out calling chips and, after holding them above the pot for a moment, tossed them into the middle. Brown announced he had a wheel and was met by mucks from Denisov and Zhu, the latter of whom made a hasty exit from the tournament area.

Allen Kessler was all in from the button on the final draw up against Matt Valeo in middle position and another player in the cutoff.

Valeo took one, as did the cutoff player, while Kessler drew two. Prior to revealing his drawn cards, Kessler showed {7-}{4-}{2-}. His fourth card was a {6-} but unfortunately for him his last card was a {2-}, pairing him up. Valeo turned over {10-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and Kessler was officially eliminated.
