Play has come to a close on Day 2 of Event #31: $10,00 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship at the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. Sixty players took their seat on Day 2 from a total field of 118, though some of those players only registered at the start of the day at the end of the late registration period. When the dust settled after seven 90-minute long levels, only ten players found a bag for Day 3.

Of those ten players, it is B]Eric Wasserson[/B] who emerged as the chip leader, sitting on a stack of 1,550,000. Right on his heels is Brian Hastings with 1,365,000. Hastings came into the day second in chips but quickly plummeted, hitting 74,000 at one point before building back. Rounding out the top three is Marco Johnson, who bagged up 1,105,000. Phil Hellmuth (380,000) will also return tomorrow in search of a record-extending 17th gold bracelet, although he will have his work cut out for him sitting on a short stack.

Some of the notables who took part in Day 2 but were unable to progress include GGPoker ambassador Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, French poker pro David Benyamine and defending WSOP Main Event champion Koray Aldemir. Start of day chipleader Oscar Johannson was also unable to survive the action, losing a good chunk of his stack on a bluff gone wrong against Matt Szymaszek, who himself ended up being the bubble boy.

Plenty of entertainment was provided throughout the day by Mike Thorpe, who developed a close bond with tablemate Daniel Zack late in the day. His run did, however, come to an end in 16th place ($16,561).

The remaining ten players are guaranteed at least $25,009, but all eyes will be on the first-place prize of $292,146 and the coveted gold bracelet that awaits the eventual winner. Play resumes at 2 p.m. PDT Thursday, June 16th, and the tournament will continue until a winner is crowned. Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team continues to provide updates from this and every other event at the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Danny Wong Eliminated in 15th Place ($16,561)

Niveau 16
Danny Wong
Danny Wong

Danny Wong opened from middle position and action folded to Yuval Bronshtein in the small blind, who three-bet. Wong flatted.

On the first draw, Bronshtein took one card while Wong stood pat. Bronnshtein then checked to Wong who led out and was called.

The second draw saw Bronshtein again take one card and Wong once more stand pat. As after the first draw, Bronshtein checked to Wong who did not slow down but rather fired off another bet. Bronshtein was going nowhere and made the call.

The same drawing pattern as the previous two rounds was repeated during the final draw, after which Bronshtein led into Wong who snapped it off. Bronshtein flipped over {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} and Wong, unable to show a better hand, was left with just 37,000.

A couple hands later Bronshtein opened from the cutoff and Marco Johnson called on the button. Wong raised from the big blind, leaving himself just 1,000 behind. Both Bronshtein and Johnson called.

The first draw saw Wong and Bronshtein take two cards while Johnson drew one. Action then checked through to the second draw, where the same drawing pattern was repeated. Wong checked and Bronshtein led out. Johnson called from the button and Wong tossed his last chip into the middle to put himself officially at risk.

On the final draw, Wong took one more card, Bronshtein stood pat and Johnson also drew a card. Bronshtein and Johnson checked and Bronshtein tabled {10-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Johnson mucked and, after a moments hesitation, Wong did the same, ending his run in 15th place.

Picking up the action after the second draw, Mike Thorpe was involved in a hand with Eric Wasserson. Wasserson stood pat and Thorpe drew one, after which Wasserson fired out a bet. Thorpe called to send the two players to the final draw.

On the final draw Wasserson stood pat again and Thorpe took what would be his last card of the tournament. Wasserson bet enough to put Thorpe all in and Thorpe, muttering "take my money" threw in his last few chips. Wasserson tabled {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and Thorpe mucked. As Thorpe stood up to leave, Wasserson did offer some last words of consolation. "I'm sorry Mike...at least it went to me".

Thorpe's Secret to Success; Hand Holding

Niveau 15
Mike Thorpe
Mike Thorpe

Just after doubling through Shaun Deeb courtesy of a little help from Daniel Zack, the still short stacked Mike Thorpe found himself all in against Deeb again after the first draw.

Thorpe stood pat on the second draw while Deeb drew one. On the final draw Thorpe stood pat again and Deeb went into the tank. Deeb probed an uncharacteristically stoic Thorpe for information but to no avail. "It's killing you to not speak", Deeb said as Thorpe remained silent. Thorpe, meanwhile, had grasped Zack's hand in an effort to replicate the previous success of that strategy.

Finally, Deeb decided not to draw. "Nine-Seven", announced Thorpe, which was good enough to secure a second consecutive double up.
