Who Will Win the 2022 WSOP's Biggest Buy-In Event and $4.5M Today? $250,000 Super High Roller Coverage Kicks Off Around 4 p.m.

Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

Dim the lights.

The biggest buy-in event of this year's World Series of Poker will play down to a winner today. Out of a field of 56 hopefuls, each of them putting up a mouth-watering $250,000 just to compete, only eight are left standing on the third and final day.

Those that remain have guaranteed themselves at least a slice of $488,095 out of the $13,944,000 prize pool, but the first-place prize of $4,563,700 and coveted WSOP gold bracelet will be what's on everyone's minds today.

It'll be a battle of the bracelet winners versus the non-bracelet winners, as three out of the eight are still seeking their first piece of the priceless hardware. Surprisingly, perhaps, Alex Foxen is one of them. Undoubtedly among the most accomplished tournament players on the planet, the bracelet has eluded Foxen thus far in his storied career with nearly $22M in lifetime winnings according to The Hendon Mob.

Foxen (24,150,000 in chips) finds himself in a prime position to break the drought today, rocking a sizable lead over his nearest competitor, the enigmatic loudmouth Martin Kabrhel (17,800,000). The talkative Czech will no doubt be drawing the attention of the PokerGO cameras with his entertaining, or annoying, antics, depending on who you ask. While Kabrhel already has two bracelets to his name, he is yet to find WSOP success outside the boundaries of Rozvadov.

Will Martin Kabrhel win his first bracelet outside of Rozvadov?

Besides Foxen and Kabrhel, the six other final tablists are as accomplished as they come, with ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey (7,300,000), a surefire future Hall of Famer and four-time bracelet winner in Adrian Mateos (6,950,000), who is the defending champion in this event, and the person running away with the 2022 WSOP Player of the Year race, Daniel Zack (4,375,000), among the finalists.

Add Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen (12,375,000), Brandon Steven (7,850,000), and Sam Soverel (3,200,000) to the mix, and we're quite possibly looking at one of the most exciting final tables of the series.

Cards will officially be back in the air at 3 p.m. local time in Bally's Event Center, part of the new home of the WSOP. PokerNews will provide live coverage in conjunction with PokerGO's live stream, which will be on a 60-minute security delay.

Three-Way Action on Flop and Turn Results in All-In Shove

Niveau 21 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Brandon Steven
Brandon Steven

Martin Kabrhel opened with a raise from middle position holding the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Brandon Steven called with the {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} from the cutoff. Chris Hunichen called with the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} from the big blind and it was three-way action to a flop of {4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Hunichen checked top pair, Kabrhel continued for 600,000, and Steven just called with his set. Hunichen called and the dealer burned and turned the {8-Clubs}.

Two checks saw Steven bet 1.7 million, Hunichen called, and Kabrhel moved all in. Steven quickly called off for 5.9 million and Hunichen got out of the way.

The {q-Diamonds} river was no help to Kabrhel and Steven shipped the double.

Dan Zack Eliminated in 8th Place ($488,095)

Niveau 21 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Dan Zack
Dan Zack

Alex Foxen raised to 600,000 in early position and Dan Zack shoved for the third time in a row, this time for 6,250,000 on the button. When the action came back to Foxen, he snap-called to put Zack at risk.

Dan Zack: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Alex Foxen: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The flop came down {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Zack paired up to take a sizable lead in the hand. The {j-Hearts} on the turn gave Foxen some straight outs to go along with the aces he now needed instead, and he drilled the {9-Clubs} on the river to make a straight and knock out Zack.

With that, Zack was the first casualty of the $250k Super High Roller final table and had to settle for eighth place.

Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey shoved all in for 4,600,000 from middle position. Brandon Steven called one seat over to put the poker legend at risk.

Phil Ivey: {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Brandon Steven: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Ivey was dominated and didn't find much to work with on the {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop. The {7-Spades} on the turn left him drawing to three outs and the {a-Spades} on the river sealed his fate.

After finishing runner-up in the $100k earlier, Ivey finished in 7th place this time and received $597,381 for his efforts.

Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

First to act, Martin Kabrhel raised to 2,000,000 with {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, leaving just 150,000 behind. To his left, Brandon Steven clicked it to 4,000,000 with {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Sam Soverel found {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} in the big blind and, with a raise and reraise in front of him, was able to find a fold from his 13 big blind stack. Kabrhel called it off for the few extra chips

The flop {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} wasn't of much help to the Czech motormouth, but the {5-Diamonds} on the turn added a flush draw to his kings. The river was a red card, but it was the {q-Hearts} to end Kabrhel's bid at a third bracelet in 6th place.

Sam Soverel limped in from the small blind, Brandon Steven shoved from the big blind, and Soverel beat him to the punch with a call. The all in was for a little over 4 million total.

Sam Soverel: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Brandon Steven: {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Steven instantly flopped the ace he needed on a {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop. Soverel was left with two outs and found neither on the {3-Clubs} turn nor {8-Diamonds} river. He received a cool million and change for finishing in 5th place.

Adrian Mateos shoved all in for 2,000,000 on the button and Chris Hunichen snapped him off from the big blind.

Adrian Mateos: {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Chris Hunichen: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

The defending champion needed to improve in order to keep his chances for his fifth bracelet and an improbable back-to-back alive. The {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop kept Hunichen in the lead and after the {a-Hearts} on the turn, only a queen could help the Spaniard.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Mateos was eliminated in 4th place for $1,367,206.

Foxen Drags A Monster Off Steven

Niveau 23 : 250,000/500,000, 500,000 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

In a three-bet pot between Brandon Steven ({a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}) on the button and Alex Foxen ({9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}) in the small blind, the flop came down {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Foxen continued for 2,850,000 and Steven came along with the call.

The {10-Diamonds} on the turn opened up a flush draw for both players. Foxen fired a second barrel worth 4,800,000 but Steven wasn't going anywhere and called again.

The pot was already up to over 20 million when the {9-Spades} landed on the river, giving Foxen a pair and the checkmark. He checked and Steven bluffed at it for 7,700,000.

Foxen went deep in the tank, staring at the board while occasionally glancing over at Steven. He used up several of his timebank cards before finally calling it off.

"Good call," Steven said in defeat. Foxen's instincts were right as he dragged the nearly 30 million pot to open up a monster lead.

Chris Hunichen Eliminated in 3rd Place ($1,931,718)

Niveau 24 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Alex Foxen shoved all in from the small blind, more than enough to cover Chris Hunichen in the big blind.

"Alright, let's go," Hunichen said before calling it off for 9,250,000 total.

Alex Foxen: {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Chris Hunichen: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Both players headed to their respective rails before the dealer revealed the first three cards.

There was an ace in the window for 'Big Huni', but a trey showed up as well on the {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop.

The {q-Clubs} on the turn caused an uproar on the center stage as Foxen improved to two pair. However, bad as the card may have been for Hunichen, he was drawing as live as he could with no fewer than sixteen outs heading into the river.

Despite the many outs, the {j-Hearts} river was a brick and Hunichen was gone in 3rd place. The $1,931,718 payout was a career-best and the third seven-figure score of Hunichen's stellar career.

Brandon Steven Eliminated in 2nd Place ($2,820,581)

Niveau 24 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Brandon Steven
Brandon Steven

Alex Foxen limped in with {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Brandon Steven checked his option with {5-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Both players caught a piece of the {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, with bottom two pair for Steven and top pair for Foxen.

Steven checked, Foxen bet 600,000, Steven check-raised to 2,400,000, Foxen three-bet shoved all in and Steven quickly called it off for 8,250,000 total.

The {k-Hearts} rolled off on the turn, giving Foxen all the hearts, kings, queens, and tens as outs going into the river.

The {10-Clubs} landed on the river and the crowd roared. With the ten, Foxen improved to a better two pair to secure his maiden WSOP bracelet. Steven's efforts to win his first came up just short, but the entrepreneur nearly doubled his lifetime poker winnings with his second-place finish worth $2,820,581.

Congratulations to Alex Foxen, winner of Event #50: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for $4,563,700!
