Slow Start for 2021 Runner-Up Salazar

Niveau 2
Hernan Salazar
Hernan Salazar

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Defending Champion Dylan Linde has yet to be seen in the field, but several other 2021 final tablists including David Matsumoto and Damjan Radanov are already in the field looking to make a return run.

Among them is runner-up Hernan Salazar, who was recently involved in a pot with Esther Taylor.

Picking action up on a turn board of {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, Taylor led out from the big blind and was met by a fold from a player in middle position, but a call from Salazar on the button.

The turn brought the {6-Spades}, and once more Taylor quickly placed a bet. Salazar folded to send the pot across the table as his stack shrunk a bit more in the early going.

Sokoloff on Right Side of Multiway Chop

Niveau 2

Big O

Cards were on their backs and a huge pot needed several minutes to sort out, with the floor called to help identify the correct portions of the pot to be pushed to various parts of the table.

The board read {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, with tabled hands in front of Paul Sokoloff, Jonathan Wang, and Todd Bareika.

To keep things simple, Each player had some form of {a-}{2-} to split the low half of the pot three-ways, which saved Bareika, who was all in.

Sokoloff managed to get the high half of the pot all to himself with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for a full house of kings full of fours to vault his stack to over double its starting point.

Thiem Turns Up The Pressure

Niveau 2

Big O

Thao Thiem in the hijack bet 500 and was called by the cutoff, button, small blind, and big blind.

The flop of {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} prompted the small blind to lead out for 1,500 and got calls from Thiem and the cutoff and folds from the button and big blind.

The {4-Diamonds} on the turn completed any flush draws and the small blind elected to check, Thiem however bet 6,500 which gained a fold from the cutoff but the small blind called.

The {9-Clubs} on the river denied any low draws and Thiem bet the pot for 19,000 which would have been enough to put the small blind all in.

After lengthy consideration, the small blind folded and showed {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a set and a flush, but Thiem said good fold and revealed {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Gray Starting To Build

Niveau 1

Pot Limit Omaha 8 or Better

There was a dead big blind and the cutoff bet 400 and was called by Jerin Gray in the small blind.

The flop of {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} prompted the cutoff to bet 500 which was called by Gray. The {10-Diamonds} landed on the turn to pair the board and the cutoff bet 1,200. Gray once again called.

A third {10-Hearts} was put on the felt and both players checked. Gray revealed {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Spades} for tens full of aces which was good enough to take the pot.

Abrams Chops After a Check-Raise

Niveau 1

Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Scott Abrams raised to 300 in first position and was called by players in the hijack and big blind.

On a flop of {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, the big blind checked to Abrams who bet 600. The hijack folded and the big blind called.

Following the {8-Spades} turn, it was again checked to Abrams, who bet 1,500. The big blind came back with a check-raise to 4,000.

Abrams called and the {5-Spades} came on the river. The big blind checked again and Abrams bet once more, this time for 8,000.

The big blind called and Abrams showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for the nut low and a flush.

Unfortunately for Abrams, he'd only get half the pot as his opponent showed {q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a turned full house to claim the high half of the pot.

Boatman Takes Early Pot

Niveau 1

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

The cutoff called and Barny Boatman in the small blind bet. The big blind raised and the cutoff folded. Boatman made the call.

Boatman bet on the flop of {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and was called by the big blind. Boatman also bet on the {j-Diamonds} turn leaving a four-liner for a straight. Once again the big blind called.

The {8-Diamonds} completed the board and brought the possibilities of a diamond flush. Both players checked and Boatman tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a straight which was good enough to take down the pot.
