Action opened with a preflop raise to 3,000 from a player in middle position. The hijack called, as did Emil Block from the big blind.

The flop came 5♥8♣10♦, and Block check-called a bet of 4,000 from the player in middle position while the hijack folded. A 4♦ came on the turn. His opponent tossed in a bet of 9,000. The moment those chips hit the table, Block raised enough to put his opponent all in.

"Ahhh," said his opponent. "Okay, show the bluff!" he said while folding and showing A♦J♦. Block turned over 4♥8♥ for two pair as he took down the pot.

No, it's isn't Shaun Deeb, Daniel Negreanu, or Phil Hellmuth, although all those three individuals are certainly capable of winning the prestigious award. The poker player we're talking about is Chad Eveslage, and his red hot start this summer is no fluke.

Lau Boosts Stack

On a heads-up completed board of 4♦6♦3♥4♠6♥, Johnny Lau led out for 10,000 into the pot of around 30,000.
The action was then on his opponent, who went into the tank for about 20 seconds before tossing in the chips to make the call.

Lau then showed Q♥4♥ for a full house ad his opponent quickly mucked to award him the substantial pot to boost his stack to 115,000.

Neiman Wins Another Big One

There was a fold to an early position player who bet 2,000 and got called by a late position player, the button, David Neiman in the small blind, and the big blind. The players were off to a flop five ways.

The A♠J♣7♦ flop landed and action checked around.

The 2♠ turn hit the felt and Neiman checked from the small blind. Next to act bet 3,500 into the field and every player called. The players were off to a river, still five ways.

The 5♦ river hit and David Neiman opted to jam all in for 30,600. Much to the surprise of the table, the big blind called and then the button called, too. With the cards on their backs the action began to make sense.

Neiman had 3x4x for a rivered wheel. The big blind had 2x2x for a turned set and the button had Ax5x for a rivered two pair.

Neiman dragged a monster pot and is sitting pretty early on in Day 1a.

Peterson With an Early Big Stack

Action opened with the player under the gun raising to 2,700. The hijack called, as did Milagros Peterson from the big blind.

The flop came 5♠3♦10♣. Peterson check-called a bet of 3,500 from the player under the gun, while the hijack got out of the way. The A♥ came on the turn, and Peterson again check-called a bet, this time for 8,000.

A 5♥ hit the river, and Peterson led out for 15,000. Her opponent then raised to 40,000. Peterson thought for about two minutes before throwing in a call. Her A♣2♣ gave her the pot when her opponent mucked K♣Q♦ for a straight draw that never came.

The Two Failed Bluffs in One Week that Cost Doug Polk $700k

Chris Moneymaker had the Bluff of the Century in 2003. This past week, Doug Polk had perhaps the Failed Bluff of the Century.

On Sunday, heads-up for a bracelet, Polk bluffed off a significant portion of his stack at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) less than one week after his infamous bluff attempt that didn't get through on Hustler Casino Live's $1 million game.

In both instances, the Upswing Poker founder had a busted draw and attempted to use aggression to coerce his opponents into folding somewhat marginal holdings in massive pots. Both times, however, his efforts were unsuccessful and quite costly.
