Chad Campbell Leads Tightly Packed Field into Day 3 of $1,500 8-Game

Niveau 25

After ten hours of play, little has been decided and all is still very much to play for on June 13 as 21 players will return for Day 3 of World Series of Poker Event #27: $1,500 8-Game.

Multiple players took turns late in the day making runs at the end-of-night chip lead, but when the bags were filled, it was Chad Campbell sealing up 1,991,000 chips, just ahead of Daniel Strelitz with 1,793,000, and Aloisio Dourado with 1,705,000.

In fact, eight of the top ten chip counts all bagged at least a million with only the stacks of bracelet winners Allan Le (150,000), and Quinn Do (120,000), dangerously short.

The Day’s Action

With a record field of 789 entries, of which 218 returned on June 12 for Day 2, a tidal wave of eliminations was expected to start the day, and those expectations held true to form as the money bubble of 119 was reached just after the first break of the day with almost 100 players busted within the first two hours of play.

Among those to fall shy of the money included Hall of Famers Jen Harman and Daniel Negreanu, and former WSOP Players of the Year David Bach, Daniel Zack, and Mike Gorodinsky.

The eliminations continued at a rapid clip once the lengthy, nearly hour-long bubble finally burst. Dylan Linde, Maxx Coleman, and Scott Bohlman were among the first to go in the money, earning at least the min-cash of $2,406.

Josh Arieh and Anthony Zinno busted in 64th and 65th place respectively for $3,234 each, a sum Phil Hellmuth also earned for his 59th place finish. Closer to night’s end, multi-time bracelet winners Max Pescatori (28th place) and Ian Johns (25th place) bowed out for $6,542 each.

What Lies Ahead

A no-doubt wild finish is in store when the players return to the Gold section of the Horseshoe Event Center at 1:00 p.m. local time on June 13 to play down to a winner, who will take home $198,854 and a prestigious WSOP gold bracelet.

While the field is tightly packed, the blinds and limits will surely provide some huge tournament-defining pots, with blinds of 10,000 / 20,000 in no-limit and pot-limit games and limits of 40,000 / 80,000 in limit and stud games.

Stay close to PokerNews for the thrilling conclusion of this event from Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas as our live reporting team brings you all the action.

No-Limit Hold 'em

With about 140,000 in the middle and a completed board of 76810Q showing, Shaun Deeb made a pot-sized bet from the small blind of 140,000.

Daniel Strelitz went deep into the tank, appearing genuinely baffled by the hand.

"I don't know what to do," commented Strelitz as he rocked back in his chair.

"What do you have?" asked Deeb.

"I'm not allowed to tell you," replied Strelitz as a second minute in the tank began for him.

After about another minute, Strelitz called to see Deeb's J10 for a flopped flush and a big win.

"Good call for me, shoutout Rob Yong," said Deeb as he was stacking his newfound chips, referencing Yong's line when he won a huge streamed cash game pot recently.

"I have a wheel," Strelitz said, showing 7x5x4x3x2x for the nuts.

"You found your game. No wonder you're always going deep in draw tournaments," tablemate Shaun Deeb told him.

Picking action up at the start of the big bet rounds, James Calder Knight led out showing a pair of queens and got calls from both Nick Schulman and Rupesh Pattni.

On sixth street, Knight now checked, Schulman bet and both opponents called.

Before seventh street, Shulman made a friendly motion to the dealer to begin stacking the chips in the middle then said, "I think it's a scoop, but..." to the laughter of his tablemates.

Schulman then bet and only got a call from Knight.

The recent $1,500 stud champ showed his straight and seven-low to indeed scoop the pot.

Josh Arieh won't be adding another bracelet to his collection after busting this event in a hand against Daniel Strelitz.

According to Strelitz, he had Jx9x8x8x3xAx and Arieh was chasing a Broadway straight draw but couldn't catch a pair, hitting the rail a day after winning his fifth bracelet in the $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship.

Weisman and Strelitz send Saechao to the Rail

Pot-Limit Omaha

A massive pot just played out that has seen Dylan Weisman survive, while Daniel Strelitz has vaulted to near the top of the chip counts.

Action opened with Weisman limping in early position and Strelitz raising from the cutoff. Saechao then potted from the button, Weisman moved all in for about 55,000, as did Strelitz with both players well covered and Saechao called off as well for about 200,000.

Dylan Weisman: J10109
Kao "Flexx" Saechao: AKQ10
Daniel Strelitz: AA72

If Strelitz's aces could hold, he'd drag a pot that would send him over a million chips while eliminating both opponents.

The dealer then spread a board of 6K378, giving Weisman a winning straight to take the main pot and triple up, while Strelitz took the beefy side pot to eliminate Saechao and get the majority of his chips.

After Viktor Blom opened to 5,000 under the gun and got a call from Josh Arieh in the small blind, Kevin Song three-bet to 20,000 in the big blind.

Only Arieh called to see a flop of 6x57. He then checkered and Song moved in the rest of his roughly 25,000 remaining chips which Arieh called.

A record-setting field of 789 filled up the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas yesterday, and many of poker’s biggest names came out for mixed-game action. David “Bakes” Baker (238,000), David Bach (183,100), Anthony Zinno (177,800), and Chino Rheem (141,900) are among those with healthy stacks heading into Day 2. Josh Arieh won his fifth bracelet in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship and jumped right into this event, bagging up 160,800 as he tries to win his second tournament in a row.

Further down the leaderboard are Phil Hellmuth (84,700), Calvin Anderson (84,600), Nick Schulman (81,300), Daniel Negreanu (63,900), and online legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who is trying to cash in a live WSOP event here in Las Vegas for the first time in more than a decade but has his work cut out for him as he carries a stack of 47,500 into Day 2.

The first order of business once play resumes is to reach the money. Only 119 will take home part of the $1,053,315 prize pool, with nearly 100 players leaving today’s action empty-handed. Day 2 consists of 10 60-minute levels, with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 21, which should come around 7:30 p.m.

The race to the money is on. Then it’s a quest to build up a stack and put yourself in a position for the final table. PokerNews will be following the action the entire way, providing live updates and chip counts through the bursting of the bubble and on towards the final table.
