The race to the money is on when Day 3 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship begins at 1 p.m. local time.

James Obst leads the remaining 29 players for the second straight day as he begins with 1,961,000. The Australian pro is no stranger to success in this tournament, having finished in fourth place last year.

Right behind him is Jeremy Ausmus, who is already having an incredible 2024 WSOP with four final tables and $3 million in earnings. A seventh bracelet has still eluded him, however, as Ausmus looks to make another deep run as he begins the day second in chips with 1,839,000.

Johannes Becker (1,764,000), Jared Bleznick (1,546,000), and David Benyamine (1,531,000) round out the top five. Other notables near the top of the leaderboard include Joao Vieira (1,428,000), Daniel Negreanu (1,341,000), three-time champion Michael Mizrachi (1,329,000), and Bryce Yockey (1,255,000). Chris Brewer (916,000), Phil Ivey (815,000), 2019 champion Phil Hui (700,000), Stephen Chidwick (604,000), Viktor Blom (510,000), and Gus Hansen (395,000) are also still in the hunt for this prestigious title.

The event attracted 89 entries by the close of late registration yesterday, building a prize pool of $4,249,750. Only the top 14 players will finish in the money, and the bubble should burst in the later stages of today. The eventual champion earns $1,178,703 and the career-changing renown that comes from conquering such a talent-packed field.

The action on Day 3 begins on Level 13 with 5,000-10,000 blinds in no-limit and pot-limit games, and 20,000-40,000 limits in limit games. The schedule calls for six 100-minute levels, with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 15 around 6:30 p.m. local time. The feature table will also be streamed on PokerGO, scheduled to start some time this evening.

Stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the day as the tournament that the top pros all had circled on their calendars reaches its later stages.

Rogers Cannot Make the Fold

Niveau 13

Limit Hold'em

Jared Blezick opened from middle position and then called after John David Rogers three-bet out of the small blind.

Rogers continued on the 10JK flop, receiving a call from Bleznick.

The A turn put a four liner on the board but that did not appear to concern Rogers too much as he fired off another bet. Bleznick responded with a raise, which Rogers called.

Rogers slowed down after the 2 river completed the board, checking to Bleznick, who tossed out a bet. Now Rogers did seem to be in an uncomfortable position. After some consideration, however, he did commit calling chips only to muck once Bleznick tabled Q9 to take a decently large hit to his stack early on Day 3.
