November Niner Kenny Hallaert is Building Early

Niveau 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

Tournament director and 2016 World Series of Poker November Niner Kenny Hallaert has taken his seat and is already off to a quick start.

The player from under the gun limped in, then a player in early position raised to 250. Hallaert defended his big blind, and the under-the-gun player called as well.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and all three players checked to the turn, which was the {9-Clubs}. Hallaert led out for 400, and the player under the gun folded. The early-position player took a look over at Hallaert's bet and decided to call.

The river was the {a-Clubs}. Hallaert thought for a moment and led out for 700 this time. His opponent dramatically lifted his cards up, rapped the tabled and said, "Nice hand" as he released his cards into the muck.

Ken Ji Cracks Kings

Niveau 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a flop reading {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}, Ken Ji was in the small blind and check-called his opponent's shove from the hijack, with Ji having him covered.

Ji tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} while his opponent tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Ji was behind, but the dealer put out the {j-Spades} on the turn and he pulled way ahead. His opponent stood up from the table before the {5-Hearts} hit the river, and then he headed for the door.

Ji stacked up his chips while another player at the table asked, "How did you call off there? He was the tightest player at the table." Ji just smiled.

Thida Lin Cracks Aces

Niveau 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

With the board reading {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and roughly 3,000 in the pot, Thida Lin moved all in from the small blind for 2,900. Her opponent was on the button and was left with a decision for his tournament life. He eventually slid out his remaining 2,400 chips and Lin showed {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a straight. Her opponent threw his cards face up in disgust showing {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} for top set.

Johnny Gagelonia Gets Tricky

Niveau 3 : 75/150, 25 ante

Johnny Gagelonia limped in from late position, and the player in the cutoff raised to 400. Gagelonia limp-raised to 1,000 and his opponent thought for a minute before deciding to call.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Gagelonia quickly moved all in for 1,500. His opponent snap-called.

Gagelonia tabled {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and his opponent showed {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a gut-shot straight draw. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and the river was the {a-Hearts}, giving Gagelonia the double-up he was looking for.

Gagelonia finished in 15th place for $3,618 in this event two years ago and looks to top that this year.

WSOP Bracelet Winner Dana Castaneda Chips Up Early

Niveau 3 : 75/150, 25 ante
Dana Castaneda
Dana Castaneda

Dana Castaneda, a 2013 WSOP bracelet winner, has joined the field today and is setting a fast pace early on. With over $460,000 in live tournament earnings, Castaneda is looking to add to that total in the 48th running of the WSOP.

Just now Castaneda was involved in a hand in which the board read {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, and the small blind led out for 700 into a pot of around 1,000. Castaneda raised to 2,200 and her opponent called. The river was the {K-Spades} and her opponent checked. Castaneda bet 2,300 and once again her opponent called. Castaneda showed {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a straight and her opponent knocked the table and mucked his cards.

Castaneda shortly after announced to her opponent that she is a "luck-box," but with her previous results showing otherwise, she may just be toying with her opponents.

Notable Dealers Having Some Fun

Niveau 3 : 75/150, 25 ante
Shaun Harris
Shaun Harris

While a lot goes into the success of a tournament, and eventually the glory of completing a final table, the hard work of dealers is something that never goes unnoticed.

Shaun Harris and Heather Alcorn are seated at the same table and are looking to be on the other side of the final tables that they normally deal here at the World Series of Poker. The table also includes Media Contributor Molly Mossey, clearly making their table the most fun one in the room.

Harris has cashed this event twice, in 2010 and 2016, while Alcorn looks to book her first-ever WSOP cash to go with her nine WSOP Circuit cashes.
