Volpe Leads the River

Niveau 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Paul Volpe, one of the hottest WSOP Player of the Year contenders, is renowned for his mixed games abilities. However, no-limit hold'em certainly isn't Volpe's weak spot.

Volpe was in the big blind, and he check-called on both the flop and turn of the board reading {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts} — paying 2,500 and 6,000, respectively. But Volpe didn't check for the third time, as he bet 8,100 on the river. His opponent folded, and Volpe took down the pot without a need to show his hole cards.

Volpe is now approaching the 100,000-chip mark.

Nitesh Rawtani Wins Two in a Row

Niveau 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

In the first hand, the board read {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, and John Richards checked in the small blind. Nitesh Rawtani bet 16,000 in the big blind, almost the size of the pot, and Richards called after thinking it over.

Rawtani showed {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for trip kings, good for the pot.

In the next hand, the player under the gun raised to 1,800, Rawtani called in the small blind, and the big blind called.

The flop came {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and all three checked. On the {8-Clubs} turn, Rawtani bet 3,000, the big blind folded, and the next player called. The river was the {J-Clubs}, and Rawtani bet 5,000. His opponent called, and he showed {8-Spades}{6-Spades} for trip eights to win that one, too.

Erick Wright Doubles Through Brian Yoon

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

in a three-way, three-bet pot, the flop came {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and Erick Wright shoved for 16,600 in the big blind. Yoon was under the gun, and he re-shoved. The player in the cutoff got out of the way, and Wright was at risk.

Wright: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Yoon: {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

Wright's ace-king was ahead, but Yoon had an open-ended straight draw and could also win with a jack. The {8-Diamonds} turn and the {2-Clubs} river did not help Yoon, though, and Wright got the double-up

Anatoly Filatov's Two Pair Outdrawn

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

With {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} on the flop, Anatoly Filatov jammed his remaining 16,100 over a 2,000-chip bet. His opponent called, and Filatov turned over {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for two pair. He was ahead against {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, but the double-up wasn't sealed just yet.

And there would eventually be no double for Filatov, as the {8-Clubs} hit the turn to bring a straight for his rival. Filatov was now hoping for a five or six to win (or at least a seven for a chop), but none emerged, as the {2-Clubs} appeared on the river to halt his tournament run.

Bertrand Grospellier Stacking Up

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Hand 1:

On a {7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, the player in the big blind checked, the player in the middle position bet 2,300, Bertrand Grospellier called on the button, and the player in the big blind folded. The turn was the {4-Clubs}, and both players checked. The {9-Clubs} on the river completed the board, Grospellier's opponent bet 4,400, Grospellier went all in for 11,100 and his opponent folded.

Hand 2:

Grospellier was in the cutoff and raised to 1,700. The player in the big blind called.

The flop came {K-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Grospellier bet 1,800 and received a call. The turn was the {5-Diamonds}, on which both players checked. The river brought the {6-Clubs}, Grospellier bet 2,200, and his opponent called.

Grospellier showed {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}, the other player mucked, and the chips were pushed Grospellier's way.

Kornuth Looks to Turned Boat

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

After an open-raise to 1,800 and a call from Bertrand Grospellier in the cutoff, Chance Kornuth squeezed to 6,500 from the small blind. The initial raiser called, and Grospellier folded.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{3-Hearts}, and both players checked to see the {6-Hearts} land on the turn. Kornuth was first to act, and he took his time. Meanwhile, his order arrived, as a waiter brought him red wine. Kornuth took a sip, then bet out 4,500 His opponent called.

The river {Q-Spades} saw Kornuth check, and his opponent slid forward a bet of 11,800. Kornuth cut out the chips required for call and started shuffling them. He eventually paid the price, only to be shown {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}. The turned full house diminished Kornuth's stack to 15,200.

Caufman Talley Eliminated by Jeremy Joseph

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

On a board of {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} with over 12,000 in the pot, five-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Caufman Talley bet 6,000 from under the gun. Jeremy Joseph went all in from the next position, putting Talley to a decision for his remaining stack, which happened to be 24,500. Talley thought for a little while and called.

Joseph showed {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for tens full of queens, and Talley's {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} was tabled before going into the muck. Talley is out, and Joseph is now over 80,000.

Kempe Flushes Nardin

Niveau 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Rainer Kempe (as seen in a previous event)
Rainer Kempe (as seen in a previous event)

Romain Nardin open-shoved on the button, and Sam Grafton folded his small blind. Rainer Kempe, a German pro who resides in Brighton, England, didn't seem to be entirely convinced about calling, but he eventually took all his chips in his hand and demonstratively smacked them into the middle.

Kempe held {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and was trailing Nardin's {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}.

An interesting {4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop saw Nardin's hand improve to a set but left Kempe on a flush draw. And the dealer The {J-Hearts} on the turn filled that flush, and the {5-Hearts} river secured Kempe's double-up.

Nardin was left with just four antes.
