Grayson Ramage Leads Event #42: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship with 129 Returning

Grayson Ramage
Grayson Ramage

Welcome back to Day 2 of Event #42: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship. This event always brings out some of the toughest competition around and Wednesday was able to prove that by drawing 332 runners with big names like Daniel Negreanu, Shaun Deeb, Jason Mercier and Doug Polk not even making it through Day 1.

Leading the way after Day 1 is Grayson Ramage. Ramage has already cashed once this series, not surprisingly in Event #27: $3,000 No Limit Hold’em 6-Handed. There he finished in 109th place collecting $4,594. Ramage only has one World Series of Poker final table under his belt, where he finished ninth in a $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout event in 2015, but perhaps he will be able to carry this chip lead to a second final table or even his first World Series of Poker bracelet. Ramage starts the day with a commanding lead over the field after finishing last night with 527,700 chips.

Of course, all the players are also vying for the $775,923 first-place prize. Fifty of the remaining 129 players will make it to the money, where a min-cash will be worth $15,091. Some of the big names trying to chase Ramage and squeeze into the money include Cliff Josephy (330,300), Rainer Kempe (254,400), Matt Berkey (253,000), Mohsin Charania (246,900) and Kristen Bicknell (239,400).

Day 2 is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. PDT and PokerNews will be here with updates from throughout the day, so stay tuned.

Phil Hellmuth Folds the River, Hits the Rail

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth raised to 6,600 in middle position, Albert Daher called on the button, and the big blind came along.

The flop was {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and the big blind checked. Hellmuth checked too, and Daher bet 13,500. The big blind folded, and Hellmuth called.

The turn was the {K-Hearts}, and Hellmuth led out for 16,000. Daher raised to 45,000, and Hellmuth called. On the {J-Clubs} river, Hellmuth checked, and Daher moved all in with Hellmuth covered.

Hellmuth stood up and set into a rant. "You're just sitting there, just waiting to give your chips to me... Wow. King-queen of clubs just drawing dead... I'm the best player in the world... People just love to give their chips to me in these things."

"Maybe the river was a bad one for me," Daher said after the hand.

Hellmuth responded, "Maybe. I wasn't folding any non-club."

Hellmuth had around 67,000 after the hand, and a little while later, he was seen exiting the tournament area.

Joe Kuether Finds a Jack, Doubles Through Tony Gregg

Tony Gregg raised to 7,000 on the button, and Joe Kuether went all in for 64,500 in the small blind. The big blind folded, and Gregg called, putting Kuether at risk.

Gregg: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Kuether: {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

The flop was {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, and Gregg was still ahead. The {J-Diamonds} turn gave Kuether a pair of jacks to take the lead, and the {7-Hearts} river was insignificant. Kuether doubled through, and Gregg took a hit to his stack.

An Orbit at the Sicko Table

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Tony Gregg is only one of the players at Brasilia 722
Tony Gregg is only one of the players at Brasilia 722

While every table in the field can arguably be described as stacked, Table 722 in the Brasilia Room must be one of the toughest.

Between the six players at that table, there is more than $35 million in live tournament earnings, and that doesn't count all the millions they've won online. Surprisingly, there are only two bracelets between the six of them: Sam Stein's win in 2011 in Event #31: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha and Tony Gregg's victory in 2013 in Event #47: One Drop High Roller - $111,111 No-Limit Hold'em.

We decided to keep track of a table for an orbit and watch some of the action.

Hand #1: Joe Elpayaa started with the button. Joe Kuether opened from the cutoff for 7,500, and Sam Stein called in the big blind.

The flop was {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and Stein checked to Kuether, who bet 6,500. Stein folded.

Hand #2: Charlie Carrel raised to 7,000 from the button and was called by Dario Sammartino from the big blind.

The flop came {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}, and both players checked to see the {A-Hearts} on the turn, where they both checked again. On the {7-Diamonds} river, Sammartino checked again. Carrel put out a big bet of 30,000, and Sammartino folded quickly.

Hand #3: Action folded around to the blinds where Sammartino limped from the small blind, and Tony Gregg checked his option from the big blind.

Both players checked on the {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{J-Spades} flop to see the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. Sammartino checked for a second time, and Gregg bet 4,000. Sammartino called. On the {K-Spades} river, Sammartino checked again. This time, Gregg bet 9,500, and after some thought, Sammartino folded.

Hand #4: Gregg limped in from the small blind, and Kuether checked his option from the big.

On the {J-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, Gregg led out with a bet of 3,5000, and Kuether called. The turn was the {6-Hearts}, and both players checked to see the {4-Hearts} on the river. Gregg bet 6,000, and Kuether promptly folded.

Hand #5: From the cutoff, Sammartino opened with a raise 7,500. Next to act, Gregg made it 20,000. Action folded around, and Sammartino called.

On the {5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop, Sammartino checked to Gregg. Gregg bet 18,500, and Sammartino did not take long to fold.

Hand #6: Carrel received a walk in the big blind.

Hand #7: Kuether raised from the cutoff to 6,500, and everyone folded.

Charlie Carrel raised to 10,000 under the gun, and Dario Sammartino called in the cutoff. Tony Gregg called on the button, and the blinds folded.

With over 40,000 in the pot and the board reading {10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} {A-Diamonds}, Connor Drinan bet 27,000 from the big blind. Ryan Leng called under the gun, and Sam Trickett called on the button.

The {5-Spades} came on the river, and Drinan bet out 45,000. Leng moved all in for 81,000, Trickett folded, and Drinan quickly called and had Leng barely covered.

Leng slouched when Drinan called so fast, and Drinan tabled {6-Spades}{4-Spades} for the straight flush. Leng showed the {A-Spades}, and the dealer tabled his other card, the {K-Diamonds}. Leng made his exit, and Drinan nearly doubled up in the hand.

Joe Kuether raised to 13,000 under the gun, and Sam Stein three-bet to 38,000 on the button. The blinds folded, and after a long pause, Kuether moved all of his chips into the middle. He had around 180,000. Stein called, and Kuether was at risk, but way ahead.

Kuether: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}
Stein: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

The {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop gave Stein a pair of kings, and the {K-Diamonds} turn gave him trips to take the lead. The {Q-Clubs} river changed nothing, and Kuether was eliminated as the bubble approaches.
