Guilherme Barbosa Bags Chip Lead at End of Day 1 in Event #49

Pot-limit Omaha is notorious for being an action game, so it's not at all surprising that chips flew around at a frantic pace on Day 1 of Event #49: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed. A total of 630 players took to the felt in this tournament, a number which surpassed last year's field size of 580.

The money bubble will likely be reached in fairly short order when play resumes on Monday at 2 p.m. local time. There will be 127 players taking chips out of the bag; 95 will cash and a min-cash is good for $4,499, but all eyes are on the $362,185 top prize and accompanying WSOP gold bracelet.

At the front of the pack is Guilherme Barbosa with 256,600, and nipping at his heels are Chino Rheem (214,400), Gionni DeMers (211,300), Samuel Higgs (200,100), the only other players who bagged stacks in excess of 200,000 chips. Next behind is Juha Helppi with 194,500.

More than a few well-known players bagged chips at the end of the night, including former WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Madsen (103,700) and recent bracelet winners Nadar Kakhmazov (154,200), Dmitry Yurasov (71,400) and Loren Klein (37,900). David Williams (84,800), Aron Dermer (85,800), Jason Wheeler (126,100), Mike Sexton (63,000), and James Obst (32,700) will all be back for Day 2 as well.

However, not all the familiar faces were fortunate enough to make it to the end of Day 1 play, including Daniel Negreanu, Matt Stout, Alan Le, and Jason Mercier, Chris Hunichen, Joe Hachem, Chance Kornuth, Noah Schwartz, Justin Bonomo, Dan Heimiller, Ryan Laplante, and defending champion Viatcheslav Ortynskiy.

Max Pescatori Doubles Up

Niveau 10 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Max Pescatori (in a previous event)
Max Pescatori (in a previous event)

With the board reading {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} {A-Spades} and 12,000 in the pot, Max Pescatori was all in for 10,300 in the big blind. His opponent in the small blind was thinking and after several moments, he called.

Pescatori had {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} for a pair of threes with a flush draw and a double-gutshot straight draw. His opponent had {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a wrap.

The {Q-Diamonds} river changed nothing and Pescatori doubled up with his pair.

Orlando Romero Doubles Up

Niveau 10 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

With the board reading {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Orlando Romero bet out 13,000 and his opponent in the cutoff potted it. That was enough to put Romero all in, and he called for his stack of 35,600 total.

Romero: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Opponent: {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Romero was behind his opponent's set of threes, but he had plenty of outs with a straight draw and flush draw. The {2-Hearts} turn changed nothing, but the {9-Spades} river gave Romero a straight to double through.

Felipe Ramos Slips

Kazuhiko Yotsushika was in the small blind and heads-up with Felipe Ramos in the big blind on a flop of {Q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Yotsushika checked, Ramos bet 1,500, and Yotsushika called.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The {9-Spades} fell on the river and Yotsushika bet 4,000. After a few moments of thought, Ramos called and Yotsushika tabled {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} for trip fours with an ace, which was good enough to win the pot as Ramos sent his cards into the muck.
