Ruslan Gazaev Slays "The Dragon"

Niveau 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
David Pham
David Pham

David "The Dragon" Pham moved all in under the gun for roughly 400,000. Action folded around to Ruslan Gazaev who thought for a bit, then made the call from the big blind.

Pham: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Gazaev: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The flop was safe for Pham when it came {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, but that changed on the {Q-Diamonds} turn where Gazaev took the lead. He further improved on the {Q-Hearts} river and his three of a kind were good to slay "The Dragon" and remove him from the tournament.

Bazeley Cracks Aces to Bust [Removed:292]

Jake Bazeley
Jake Bazeley

The action started with a raise to 63,000 by Robert [Removed:292] and Jake Bazeley in the small blind waved to see the stack of [Removed:292], then three-bet to 200,000. Back on [Removed:292], he four-bet to 438,000 and Bazeley moved all in, which [Removed:292] called in a heartbeat.

[Removed:292]: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Bazeley: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Bazeley sighed over to table neighbor Ben Lamb and stood up from his chair after the flop fell {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. As soon as Bazeley was on his feet, the {Q-Spades} appeared on the turn to see him improve to a set, and the blank {J-Clubs} river changed nothing whatsoever.

Both stacks were counted and Bazeley had 1,495,000. [Removed:292] was covered with just over 1.2 million and joined the rail in 228th place.

Pollak Sends Becker to the Rail

Johannes Becker
Johannes Becker

Benjamin Pollak started the day as one of the shortest stacks with just 218,000, and he has since done plenty of work at the tables. In a recent hand, Johannes Becker just called a raise to 55,000 by Pollak and checked the {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop. Pollak continued for 45,000 and was called before the German also check-called the {6-Hearts} turn for 125,000.

The {K-Hearts} river completed the board and Becker checked for the third time. Pollak bet 350,000 and Becker moved all in to receive a snap-call by Pollak. Becker rolled over {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for a set of kings on the river, while the very same card gave Pollak the nut straight with {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

A massive pot was brewing on Table 704 with about 1,600,000 in the pot on a board reading {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Eyal Maaravi was in the big blind and led out for a bet worth 520,000. Andrew Magbual was under the gun and thought about it before deciding to call.

Maaravi tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for a full house, sevens full of eights. Magbual rapped the table and mucked his hand.

Maaravi raked in the big pot and has now slipped into the chip lead.

Della Sciucca's Queens No Good

Damian Salas
Damian Salas

Antonio Della Sciucca was spotted leaving his seat while Damian Salas scooped yet another big pot. According to players at the table, Salas limped, Della Sciucca raised to 120,000, and Salas limp-raised before snap-calling the shove of the Canadian.

Della Sciucca tabled pocket queens and Salas had pocket kings. The board came {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and Salas' full house left Della Sciucca empty-handed.

"You are the only one I know that limp-raises," a player at the table remarked to Salas.

With that pot, Salas is back in the lead in this tournament.

Big Preflop Pot Goes to Colin Moffatt, Vaults Him Near The Top

Niveau 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Colin Moffatt
Colin Moffatt

Noel Eicher opened with a raise to 65,000 from early position. Next to act was Colin Moffatt who reraised, making it 190,000 to play. Just a few seats over in middle position was David Patterson. He put in a four bet, making it 450,000 to go. Paul Senat was next to act and he dropped into the tank. Senat tanked for several minutes before he finally let go of his hand.

Eicher quickly released and that put Moffatt into the tank. He thought for several minutes. At multiple points, he grabbed his stack of T$100,000 chips and put his hand on them, looked as if he might push them forward, shook his head, then went back to thinking.

Finally, after about three minutes, Moffatt did put his hand on the T$100,000 chips and pushed forward a stack of more than 2 million, enough to put Patterson all in. Patterson then shook his head, double-checked his cards, and pitched them into the muck, and that allowed Moffatt to take down the big pot with no showdown.

Along with this pot, Moffat has chipped up nicely throughout the day, making him one of the top stacks in the room.

Saout chipleader à 200 left

Antoine Saout Busts Jan Nakladal
Antoine Saout Busts Jan Nakladal

Jan Nakladal raised to 65,000 from under the gun and Antoine Saout three-bet to 205,000 from one seat over, which Nakladal called. On the {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, Nakladal checked and called a bet worth 225,000 by Saout before checking again on the {2-Hearts} turn. Saout fired a second barrel worth 475,000 and Nakladal check-raised all in for more than a million, which Saout quickly called.

The camera crews rushed to the table to record the showdown, though Nakladal was already drawing dead.

Nakladal: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Saout: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

A meaningless {A-Hearts} on the river gave the Czech trips aces and he headed to the rail. Brandon Meyers said, "Say something for the cameras," which saw Saout say just two words with a big grin on the face: "Running good."

Player Interview: Dario Sammartino

Niveau 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

At the beginning of Day 5, Dario Sammartino started with a stack of 1,769,000. Heading back from the second break of the day, he nearly doubled to 3,450,000, good for a top-15 stack.

Sammartino is sitting at the table with former November Niner Kenny Hallaert, and the two have been sparring all day. Earlier in the day, Hallaert ran a bluff against Sammartino that didn't get through and sent an additional million in chips to Sammartino's stack.

PokerNews caught up with Sammartino to talk about his day and how he found the nerve to call Hallaert's bluff with ace high.

Sammartino: Obviously, calling someone with ace high is not standard. When he three-bet me in that spot preflop, I had the feeling he didn't have a lot. I called preflop to trap and also it's not good to go all in for 80 bigs preflop with ace-king against a good player. I think Kenny's a good player. So the best option was to call preflop.

The texture of the board on the river and the way the hand played out means he can only bet with jacks and hearts. At this point, I think he either has king-queen of hearts, jacks, or nothing. I just don't think he plays aces, kings, or queens that way.

I chose to call because most of the time I have the best hand. His range against my range is not really strong in that spot.

PokerNews: With seven cashes this summer, including a third-place finish in the One Drop High Roller, do you feel like you are playing some of your best poker?

Sammartino: In some of the tournaments, I feel I've played my best, but I make some mistakes. Sometimes I am very focused, and I play good. I always want to get better. I will work hard to improve my game even over the next few days. I hope, and I try because this is what I want to do.

PokerNews: Watching you play during the last level and all summer long, it's obvious you like to play a lot of pots. Is there ever a time when you slow down?

Sammartino: Slow down? Sure sometimes. But it depends. I don't care about whether the table is tough or easy. It's important, but I always play with really tough players. This table is not an easy table, but it's not that tough either. If I can play my game, I feel good and then I will do good. I want to try to do my best and win.

PokerNews: What's the plan to ensure you take a healthy stack into Day 6?

Sammartino: I change my play a lot. I change based on the table, the stack, the player. A lot of things help me decide how to play. I don't have one basic strategy, and that is good. I change all the time and play my opponents differently. I hope it makes it hard for people to know how to play against me.

Hallaert Finds a Fold, Drops Under a Million

Niveau 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

From middle position, Richard Robinson opened with a raise to 75,000. Action folded around to Daniel Sammarco who called from the small blind. Kenny Hallaert tagged along from the big blind.

On the {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop, Sammarco led out with a bet of 125,000. Hallaert called and, after thinking about it for a while, Robinson called as well.

The turn was the {9-Clubs}, completing a straight draw. Sammarco and Hallaert both checked, then Robinson moved all in for 585,000. Sammarco quickly folded and that left Hallaert with the decision. For him to call it would cost him most of his stack.

Hallaert let out a deep sigh, leaned back, and dropped into the tank.

"Can I get a count please?" Hallaert asked. He tanked for nearly four minutes, cracking his knuckles, looking at the clocking, cutting out how many chips he would have left after he called. "Sorry guys," Hallaert said. Eventually, he kicked forward one of his cards, then another, folding.

"Show a fun card!" Someone said to Robinson at the table.

"They're both fun cards," Robinson said.

Hallaert cracked a smile despite losing the pot and dropping down under 1 million chips.
