Sergii Karpov Leads 11 Day 1c Survivors in The COLOSSUS

The third of nine starting days of the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe Event #15: €550 COLOSSUS No-Limit Hold'em saw a field of 128 entries emerge in Europe's biggest poker arena at the King's Resort in Rozvadov near the border to Germany. Along with the 143 entries of day 1a and 133 on day 1b, the current field size for the event stands at 404 entries in total and another 11 players ensured their ticket for Day 2.

After 18 levels of 30 minutes each, Ukrainian Sergii Karpov ended up as the Day 1c chip leader with a massive 732,000. Karpov climbed on top of the counts during the last 15 minutes, after he called Bjoern Bouwmans's bluff on the three streets with a pair of tens on a queen-high board for a pot over 400,000 chips.

The overnight podium is completed by Darkhan Rakhymzhanov (435,000) and Kristof Lenart (400,000). Other familiar faces among the survivors are Eshed Hadaya (207,000), Ion Naicu (176,000), and Stefan Rothdauscher (152,00).

Rakhymzhanov took a big piece of Deeb's stack on the very last hand of the day when he hit a full house on the turn while Deeb had flopped trips and all the chips went in the middle. The 2018 WSOP Player of the Year and contender to repeat the same title still ended up with a comfortable stack thanks, amongst many hands, a previous double up with pocket jacks against Vladimir Dezort who held ace-queen and didn’t hit on the board.

Dezort himself didn't survive the final outburst of action at the end of the night, as he was among the eight players to take home a portion of the Day 1c prize pool. Deeb also opted to forfeit his stack of 210,000 in order to have the chance at playing in the remaining starting days and possibly bagging a far bigger stack for Day 2.

Action of the day

Only around 25 were in their seats when the cards got into the air but the Day 1c field soon reached more than 100 entries. Many notables came took their chance today such as Robert Campbell, Pierre Neuville, Daniel Negreanu, Viktor Blom or Anson Tsang, who all re-entered but without more success.

As quickly as the players busted just shy of the money, as much the action slowed down on the direct money bubble itself. Eventually, it was the Swedish player Antti Halme that blinded out in 21th place, moving all-in with eight-four suited on the button when Karpov found ace-king in the blinds at the end of level 16. The action continued for one-hour of play that remains and the day 1c field was reduced from 20 to just 12 survivors.

Day 2 will kick-off on Sunday, November 3rd, at 3p.m. local time, combining all the remaining players of the nine starting flights. They will play the same 30-minute levels as the players did today until the final table is reached.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor to provide all the action from the King’s Resort.
