Star-Studded Field Advances in Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix; Madsen, Blom, Elezra Top Day 1

The first of two days of Event #5: €2,500 8-Game Mix at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe — the first-ever eight-game mix bracelet event since the WSOPE moved to King's Resort — delivered a 71-player field with the elite of the poker world present to shoot for WSOP glory. 26 of them made their way to the second day, which will resume at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, October 18.

Four-time bracelet winner Jeff Madsen headlines a star-studded field with 336,500 in chips. None other than online legend "Isildur1", Viktor Blom, is hot on Madsen's coattails with 302,000. Another four-time bracelet winner, Eli Elezra, rounds out the top three with 252,000. Phil Hellmuth (145,000), Daniel Negreanu (84,500), and Jeff Lisandro (44,500) also made their way through to the final day. Robert Campbell, who's leading the hotly-contested WSOP Player of the Year race, also advanced to Day 2 with a stack of 45,500.

With 71 players, the event fell short of the €250,000 guarantee, providing a sweet overlay for those that showed up for this event. With unlimited re-entries allowed for the duration of nine levels, plenty of players fired multiple shells in order to spin up a stack, but the likes of Shaun Deeb, Chris Ferguson, Alex Livingston, Anthony Zinno, Benny Glaser, and Phil Hui all saw one or more attempts come up short.

The 26 remaining players will be back in King's Resort at 3 p.m. local time and play down until a winner is crowned. Levels remain 40 minutes throughout the tournament and PokerNews will be right back on the floor to cover the who's who of the poker world in their quest for WSOP gold. Don't miss anything as a new bracelet winner at the WSOPE will be crowned!

Gluszko Chops to Survive

Arto Loikkanen: {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} / {a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs} / {5-Hearts}
Tomasz Gluszko: {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} / {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades} / {6-Diamonds}
Phil Hellmuth: {x-}{x-} / {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} (folded on fourth)

Phill Hellmuth was the bring-in, Arto Loikkanen completed, Tomasz Gluszko called, and Hellmuth also called. Gluszko bet fourth street with his pair, Hellmuth folded, and Loikkanen called.

Gluszko kept betting until all his chips were in on sixth street. Loikkanen revealed his final card first, ending up with a pair of aces. Gluszko had plenty of outs but still needed to improve, and partially did so when the {6-Diamonds} gave him a sixty-four low to chop.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Robert Campbell limped in on the button, Julien Martini made it 10,000 in the small blind, Jeff Lisandro folded the big blind and Campbell called. On the {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop, Martini bet 7,000, Campbell raised pot, and Martini called.

With the majority of his stack already in, Campbell's remaining chips went in on the {5-Hearts} turn.

Robert Campbell: {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Julien Martini: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Campbell was miles ahead with his boat and the WSOP Player of the Year leader doubled up after the {8-Diamonds} hit the river.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Joao Vieira, who won his first WSOP bracelet this summer in Event #70: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, is making a strong bid for a second piece of hardware. The Portuguese pro moved up over the 300k mark after knocking out Ismael Bojang in Pot-Limit Omaha.

Already at showdown with the board reading {k-}{7-}{4-}{a-}{q-}, Vieira had {k-}{j-}{7-}{7-} in front of him for a set of sevens. Bojang had {a-}{k-}{q-}{5-} for two pair and was eliminated.
