When it folded around to Serhii Karpus im the small blind he shoved his last 100,000 into the middle with just Alberto Stegeman to get through in the big blind. Stegeman called to put Karpus at risk.
Serhii Karpus: A♠2♠
Alberto Stegeman: K♠7♥
Karpus needed to hold with ace-high if he was to have a chance of making the money in the Main Event. However, the dealer put out a board of Q♣9♠10♣6♣J♥ which gave Stegeman the winning hand with a king-high straight, sending Karpus out the door.
Hugues Girard had open-raised from middle position when Sirzat Hissou put in a three-bet to 65,000 in the hijack. Girard called to the 7♥10♦3♦ flop, where he check-called the 80,000 continuation-bet of Hissou.
The 10♠ turn saw Girard check again but this time he folded to a bet of 150,000 from Hissou
Alex Foxen opened to 20,000 from under the gun and called when Andrea Ricci three-bet to 70,000 from the cutoff.
Foxen check-called for 40,000 on the A♠7♠5♣ flop, bringing in the 9♦ turn. Foxen check-jammed over a bet of 140,000 and Ricci snap-called to set up a more than one million chip pot.
Alex Foxen: 7♥7♦
Andrea Ricci: A♦A♣
Both players flopped a set, but Ricci's superior three-of-a-kind left Foxen drawing to one out. The 5♥ river improved both players to a full house but it wasn't the card Foxen needed and he headed out of the tournament room while Ricci took the chip lead.
Boris Angelov, who was at the table, said Foxen started the hand with around 500,000 to 550,000, meaning Foxen's all-in was north of 400,000.
Andrea Ricci
On the table behind, fellow high roller Viktor Blom also chipped down after dropping a pot. With around 210,000 in the middle on the 9♣5♥2♠7♣9♥ board, Eyal Bensimhon fired out 110,000 from the big blind. Blom used up a time bank before conceding the pot.
In a preflop confrontation Daniel Lakerveld was all in for 132,000 from the small blind and up against Cristian Visoiu who had slightly less in the big blind.
Cristian Visoiu: A♠A♥
Daniel Lakerveld: K♠K♣
Lakerveld was on the wrong side of the ultimate preflop cooler and couldn't cracak Visoiu's aces on the 6♥4♥9♠9♣A♦ runout. Lakerveld was left with less than one big blind while Visoiu took the pot.
Enrico Camosci raised to 20,000 in the cutoff before Frederik Thiemer three-bet to 60,000 on the button. Camosci then moved all in for 635,000 and Thiemer folded.
A few hands later, Thiemer raised to 20,000 under the gun and Camosci called in the big blind.
The flop came K♥Q♠3♣ and Thiemer continued for 27,000. Camosci called and the 9♦ turn was checked through.
The 5♥ fell on the river and Thiemer resumed betting, putting out 55,000. Camosci closed his eyes, used up a time bank, then emerged with a raise to 240,000. Thiemer again quickly folded.
Arriving on the turn of 2♦7♦K♠2♥, Mateusz Moolhuizen checked from the small blind to David Dongwoo Ko in middle position. Ko added 104,000 to the pot of 185,000, which Moolhuien called.
Moolhuizen checked again on the 10♥ river. Ko spent some time in the tank until the initial 30 seconds of his shot clock ran out. The dealer then mistakenly ruled his action as a check.
The floorman was called over, who rectified the situation. Ko handed over a time bank extension and then checked behind out of his own volition.
"Ace-high," stated Moolhuizen as he turned over A♦3♦ for a busted flush draw.
"I was thinking of bluffing," Ko admitted as he showed Q♥10♠ for a rivered pair to take the pot.
Dariusz Marcinkowski moved all in from the cutoff and Daniel Lakerveld called for 33,000 in the big blind.
Daniel Lakerveld: 9♠8♥
Dariusz Marcinkowski: A♠2♠
Lakerveld didn't have to sweat out the double up for long as the 10♠7♦6♥ flop gave him a straight. The rest of the board ran out 4♦8♣ to lock up the pot.
Dennis Dielmann opened to 25,000 from the hijack with Andrea Ricci and Kees van Brugge calling out of the blinds.
All three players checked a board of 7♥6♥3♥3♦2♠ down to the river before Ricci led out for 75,000 from the small blind. Van Brugge called from the big blind and Dielmann folded.
Ricci turned over A♥4♥ for the flopped nut flush and Van Brugge mucked his hand.
