The board came {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades} and the full house of the Spaniard sent Malec to the rail.

An Orbit With William Kassouf

Niveau 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
William Kassouf
William Kassouf

Hand 1

After a raise to 1,100 in under the gun by Ivan Banic, William Kassouf called in the hijack and Nabil Cardoso moved all in for 6,550 from one seat over. Banic called and Kassouf folded. Cardoso had the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and won the flip against Banic's {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} on a board of {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. "Back in the game!" Kassouf said to Cardoso and smiled.

Hand 2

Guillaume Diaz raised and Arnaud Peyroles moved all in, Diaz folded.

Hand 3

Freek Scholten raised to 1,200 and Kassouf called, Diaz called in the big blind. On the {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop, Diaz checked. Scholten bet 1,800 and Kassouf raised to 5,000. Diaz folded and Kassouf started some table talk. "Ace high is not good," he said among other things and he got the fold he wanted.

Hand 4

Diaz raised the small blind, Scholten called in the big blind and Diaz then check-folded the {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop.

Hand 5

Kassouf raised to 1,200 from under the gun and Peyroles called. On the {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, Kassouf bet 2,000 and Peyroles moved all in. Kassouf called.

Peyroles: {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Kassouf: {8-Spades}{5-Spades}

"Brick brick please," Kassouf said and the {J-Diamonds} came on the turn. "Always a sweat, eh," the Brit added. The {6-Clubs} river was a blank and Kassouf said a brief "thank you" then raked in the pot.

Hand 6

Osman Aksu raised to 1,500 and Scholten called on the button, Kassouf in the big blind. The flop came {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Aksu took down the pot with a bet of 6,500.

Hand 7

Banic raised to 1,100, Scholten clicked to 3,600 in the cutoff and Kassouf folded in the small blind. Banic called, and then check-folded the {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop to a continuation bet.

Hand 8

Aksu limped, Diaz raised to 1,700 and Kassouf folded, Aksu called. On the {Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, Aksu bet 2,000 and Diaz called. On the {9-Diamonds} turn, Aksu bet 10,225 and Diaz shoved for 25,575 - Aksu folded. During the hand, Kassouf checked text messages on the phone, likely also looking for upcoming dinner options.

Hand 9

Diaz raised to 1,200 and Scholten called, Kassouf asked "how much" and calledalso. On the {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} flop both players checked to Kassouf and he bet 2,150. Only Diaz called and Kassouf started small talk again. "I have the best hand at the moment. I am not on a draw. You got a small pair?" Diaz didn't say a single word.

The {5-Diamonds} turn and {10-Clubs} river were checked. Diaz showed the {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Kassouf mucked.

Result: One double, one big pot where Kassouf wasn't involved and the Brit busted an opponent to build his stack. Oh, and Aksu busted soon after.

Katchalov Busts Staples and Kabbani

Niveau 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

The colleagues of the PokerStars blog ran into a pretty big hand that saw the departure of Jaime Staples and Adel Kabbani.

Staples raised to 700 from under the gun and four opponents called including Eugene Katchalov. Then, Adel Kabbai jammed his last 5,250 in the big blind and Staples just called. It folded to Katchalov, who eventually raised to 26,000 to give Staples only the choice to fold or go all in for little more. Staples decided for the latter after some consideration and committed his last 29,750 to createa three-way showdown.

Kabbani: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Staples: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Katchalov: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

There was no help on the board {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Katchalov knocked out both opponents to skyrocket his stack.

Seat Open After 14 Minutes

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Alexander Ivarsson
Alexander Ivarsson

There were some gasps on the table still after the dealer had announced seat open on table 23. Jimmy Guerrero couldn't really believe it either, but apparently Sai Wu had sent over her remaining stack entirely to Alexander Ivarsson. The first seat open after 14 minutes! This is not a record for the EPT though, but surely one of the fastest exits ever.

As per Ivarsson, this is what happened. Wu limped in, the cutoff raised to 375 and Ivarsson three-bet to 1,000 on the button, only Wu called. On the {A-}{10-}{5-} flop, Wu checked, Ivarsson bet 1,200 and then faced a raise to 2,700. Ivarsson reraised to 6,700 and Wu called. After the {10-} turn, Ivarsson bet 6,000 and received a call before checking the {7-} river. Wu shoved for 13,000 with {A-}{9-} and Ivarsson more than happily called with {A-}{10-} for the full house.

Welcome to Day 1b of the PokerStars.com EPT13 Malta Main Event

Niall Farrell in the €25,750 Super High Roller
Niall Farrell in the €25,750 Super High Roller

In two hours from now at 12 p.m. local time, the second starting day of the 2016 PokerStars.com EPT Season 13 Malta €5,300 Main Event gets underway at the Casino Portomaso. With plenty of sunshine outside and many of the online grinders returning to the felt after their Sunday sessions, a bigger field is expected than the 134 entries of yesterday's Day 1a, of which 61 bagged up chips last night.

The numbers to beat thus far for all hopefuls today are Dan Shak's 185,100 and Pasi Sormunen's 183,600, more than six times the starting stack over the course of eight 75-minute levels. All participants receive 30,000 in chips and there will be a break of 20 minutes every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after level six, play will come to an end around midnight local time.

Last year, the EPT stopped twice on Malta. Jean Montury emerged victorious in the EPT11 Malta Main Event after outlasting a field of 895 players to claim a career-best payday of €687,400. And in October 2015, Niall Farrell defeated a 651-entry strong field in heads up against Alen Bilic to lift the trophy.

Many of the regular faces in the High Roller events took to the felt yesterday already with mixed success and as of 12.30 p.m. local time, the €10,300 Single-Day High Roller also kicks off as well. Who will make a big step towards history in the second-last EPT before the rebranding to the PokerStars Festivals next year? The PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to cover the action for both tournaments, so stay tuned and check back regularly.
