Who Will Make the Final Six of the EPT Main Event Here in Prague?

Paul Michaelis
Paul Michaelis

The penultimate day of the €5,300 EPT Main Event is here and set to start at noon local time. Paul Michaelis will be sitting down as the chip leader here in the Hilton Prague with 5,315,000 chips. Sixteen players will return today to contest each other to make it to the final six left for the final day and the amazing first-place prize of €1,020,000.

Michaelis has already surpassed his biggest EPT cash ever, which took place in 2015 when he finished in 3rd place here in Prague in the €1,100 Hyper-Turbo for €25,365, as everyone is guaranteed at least €44,920. But knowing Michaelis, he won’t be satisfied with that, he will have his eyes set on that final table and adding another title to his achievements.

Trailing Michaelis in the chip counts is high stakes cash games player Liviu Ignat with 4,550,000 which equals 114 big blinds. Ignat seems to only play EPTs when playing live tournaments as he has collected twelve cashes in total, all on the EPT circuit. Ignat’s biggest cash took place during the EPT in Malta in 2016 when he finished in 6th place in the €10,300 High Roller for €78,220.

Closing out the top three at the start of the day is Argentina’s Diego Zeiter. Zeiter will open a bag at noon containing 3,905,000 and is seated at the same table as Michaelis and Ignat. Also included on the table is the only former EPT champion left, Andrey Pateychuk. Table #2 also features Day 3 chip leader Konstantin Farber, Twitch phenomenon Parker Talbot, EPT Prague Cup winner from earlier this week Sergei Bagirov, and Evangelos Bechrakis who finished in 3rd place in the €2,200 National High Roller for €144,900 almost a week ago.

In comparison, Table #1 contains around 37% of the total amount of chips in play which could possibly cause for some friction, one way or the other. The 16 remaining players will return to finish the last five minutes of Level 25 which features a small blind of 20,000, big blind of 40,000, and a big blind ante of 40,000. They will then immediately continue with Level 26 with a small blind of 25,000, big blind of 50,000, and a big blind ante of 50,000. A 20-minute break will take place after every 90-minute level and play is expected to continue until there are six players left but this is subject to change.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be here, as usual, to bring you all the action from the floor!

Alexandr Merzhvinskii
Alexandr Merzhvinskii

Laurynas Levinskas raised to 130,000 from under the gun and action folded all the way to Alexandr Merzhvinskii in the big blind who made the call.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Spades}, Merzhvinskii checked and Levinskas continued with a bet of 90,000. Merzhvinskii shoved for 1,025,000 in total and Levinskas snap-called.

Alexandr Merzhvinskii: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Laurynas Levinskas: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}

They had both flopped the pair with Merzhvinskii holding the higher one.

The rest of the board was completed with the {2-Clubs} on the turn and the {j-Diamonds} on the river for Merzhvinskii to improve to trip jacks to double up.

Sergei Bagirov Eliminated in 16th Place (€44,920)

Sergei Bagirov
Sergei Bagirov

Sergei Bagirov jammed for 575,000 over an open to 120,000 from Paul Michaelis in early position. Michaelis called with {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and was flipping against {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Parker Talbot joked that he folded an eight but one appeared right away on the {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop. The {3-Clubs} turn gave Michaelis a boat and the {j-Spades} was a meaningless river.

Liviu Ignat raised to 125,000 in the cutoff, Diego Zeiter made it 400,000 on the button and Konstantin Farber moved all in for 1,105,000 in the small blind. Ignat gave it up but Zeiter called, and the two were flipping with Farber holding {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Zeiter {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, so Zeiter busted Farber with trip queens.

"Good luck, guys," Farber said.

Ivan Zhechev shoved from the button for 405,000 in total and was called by Carlos Branco in the big blind.

Ivan Zhechev: {q-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Carlos Branco: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Zhechev got up from his seat while the dealer dealt {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades} on the flop for Zhechev to hit a pair of sevens.

The turn was the {a-Diamonds} to now deal Branco the higher pair.

Zhechev needed another seven or queen to stay alive but he bricked the river as the {3-Clubs} came to send him to the rail in 14th place for €50,610.

Alexandr Merzhvinskii opened under the gun for 120,000 and action folded to the small blind, where Fionn MacNamara made it 370,000 to go. Merzhvinskii continued and they saw an {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop. MacNamara bet 275,000 and Merzhvinskii called to see the {10-Diamonds} turn. That got checked through to a {10-Clubs} river. MacNamara needed a time bank to figure out his next move, and just as time was about to expire, he announced all in. Merzhvinskii quickly dropped in a chip to call.

MacNamara opened {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} but Merzhvinskii had gotten there with {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for a flush.

Paul Michaelis limped in on the button, Artem Kobylynskyi completed his small blind and Serhii Holodiuk opted to check his big blind.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Spades}, both Kobylynskyi and Holodiuk checked. Michaelis bet 80,000, Kobylynskyi called, and Holodiuk contemplated for a bit. After a bit, Holodiuk shoved for 850,000 in total and only Kobylynskyi snap-called.

Serhii Holodiuk: {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Artem Kobylynskyi: {4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Holodiuk had flopped top pair but Kobylynskyi held the straight.

The turn was the {a-Hearts} for Holodiuk to improve to trips, he just needed the board to pair to stay alive but the river completed the board with the {9-Hearts} for Holodiuk to be eliminated just after the break.

Liviu Ignat raised to 160,000 and action folded to Evangelos Bechrakis with his micro stack in the big blind.

"I don't think I need to look at my cards," he mused.

He stuck his chips in and tabled {j-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, happy to see he was live against {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The {9-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} only brought some backdoor possibility and the sweat ended with an {a-Diamonds} turn. Bechrakis knuckled the table and shook hands with his opponents.

Paul Michaelis raised to 210,000 on the button and faced a shove worth 2.39 million from Alexandr Merzhvinskii. He leaned back in thought, said something to his opponent, then slammed in some chips to call.

Alexandr Merzhvinskii: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Paul Michaelis: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Michaelis was a favorite to increase his lead even further but the {5-Hearts} in the window indicated things would likely go otherwise. The rest of the board was {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and Merzhvinskii doubled up.
