Welcome to Day 1c of the €1,100 EPT National

Cutting Card - Chips
Cutting Card - Chips

The third starting flight of the €1,100 EPT National at the 2019 EPT Barcelona will get underway at noon local time. Last year, this event attracted a massive field of 4,348 runners, and it is Jean-René Fontaine who took it down for a first-place prize of €547,000.

Yesterday, 185 players from the 1,240 Day 1a entrants advanced to Day 2, and 91 competitors from the Day 1b field of 606 participants also made it through to Day 2.

Currently holding the overall chip lead is Dejan Jakovljevic with an impressive stack of 915,000. He is followed by Alen Alencar with 830,000. Diego Falcone rounds up the top three with 676,000.

Other big names that also found a bag for Day 2 include Day 1b chip leader Louis Salter (553,000) as well as Sonny Franco (546,000), Raffaele Sorrentino (517,000), Julien Martini (371,000) and PokerStars Pro Ramon Colillas (258,000). Gianluca Speranza (245,000), Matias Ruzzi (181,000), and Pedro Cairat (102,000) are still in contention as well.

Players will start with 30,000 in chips and Day 1c will feature 40-minute levels throughout the day. Play will be suspended after 15% of the field is remaining, which means Day 2 has to be reached in order to make the money. The fourth and final starting flight will kick off at 7 p.m. tonight and feature 20-minute levels instead.

The survivors of the four starting flights will combine on Friday August 23rd at noon local time for Day 2.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as the Live Reporting Team covers the event wire-to-wire!

Gross Busts Guilbert in Big Pot

Niveau 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Etai Gross
Etai Gross

There are several notables on the ten tables outside of the main tournament room and among them was also Johan Guilbert. However, the Frenchman lasted all but the first level when he was eliminated in a big pot against Etai Gross. Furthermore, Carina Wald had also been sent to the rail prior to that, and Gross now sits on more than three times the starting stack.

With 17,000 in the middle and the flop showing {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Gross checked in the cutoff and Guilbert made it 3,800 to go from the button. Gross raised to 11,000 and Guilbert gave it half a minute before moving all in. Gross was immediately set back and needed some time before asking for a count. The shove was for 33,300 total and Gross indeed called.

Johan Guilbert: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Etai Gross: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The {9-Clubs} turn and {k-Clubs} river were blanks and Guilbert was also gone.

"You can easily have kings there too, and aces," Gross said while he was raking in the massive pot.

Tu Tran
Tu Tran

Tu Tran bet a {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop for 1,500 but let go when he faced a raise to 3,500.

The Aussie didn't slow down with the action, however, and raised it up to 800 the next hand. Pedram Pirayesh called from one seat over and Andrii Andrieiev jammed right after that. Tran asked for a count and when it was deemed to be for 9,900, he tossed in two blue T-5,000 chips. Pirayesh folded and the cards were turned over.

Andrii Andrieiev: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Tu Tran: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The board came {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Tran hit the ace on the river to send Andrieiev to the rail.

Zhechev Leaves Jacobson Short

Niveau 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson opened the action with a raise to 1,200 and Ivan Zhechev three-bet to 4,000 from one seat over, which Jacobson called. On a {j-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop, Jacobson checked and called a bet of 3,000 before the {10-Hearts} turn was checked through.

Jacobson then bet the {5-Hearts} river for 5,000 and Zhechev eventually raised to 25,000, which sent Jacobson deep into the think tank. The clock was called on him and with a few seconds remaining, Jacobson tossed in the chips for the call.

Zhechev tabled the {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Jacobson exposed his {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, thinking he was covered. The raise was only to 25,000 though, which left the Swede with very few chips behind.

While the stack of Zhechev is already impressive, he is trailing Etai Gross on the same table.
