Beresford Wins Big Pot Off Adams

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

The roller coaster ride of Conor Beresford throughout the penultimate tournament day continues as the Brit just dragged in a very healthy pot against Timothy Adams.

It all started with a raise to 70,000 by Adams in the hijack and Beresford made it 280,000 to go in the small blind, which Adams called. On a flop of {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Beresford let his shot clock run down to five seconds and he announced a bet of 160,000. Adams took an equally long time to make the call and both ended up checking the {5-Spades} turn.

The {3-Spades} river paired the board for a second time and Beresford now made it 400,000 to go. Adams gave it some thought and called, but mucked his cards when Beresford flipped over {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a full house.

Small Pot for Riess

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

With {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Viktor Katzenberger opened to 70,000 in middle position and Ryan Riess flatted with {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} on his left.

The action went check-check on the {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and the same happened on the {5-Diamonds} turn. When the {k-Hearts} came on the river, it went check-check a final time and Riess took the pot with the better kicker.

Greenwood Takes From Chouity

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Nicolas Chouity opened {a-Spades}{6-Spades} on the button and Sam Greenwood called 65,000 with {j-Clubs}{9-Spades} on the button.

The dealer fanned a {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop and Greenwood check-raised Chouity's 40,000 continuation bet to 125,000 and got a call.

When a {7-Clubs} landed on the turn, Greenwood bet again, this time for a relatively small 140,000. Chouity was playing 500,000 total and decided to keep those for another hand. Sam Greenwood is up to around average stack now.

Mosele Chips Up

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Massimo Mosele raised to 70,000 and Wiktor Malinowski called to see the {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. A bet of 85,000 by Mosele did the trick to win the pot right there.

One hand later, Aladin Reskallah opened to 65,000 and Conor Beresford three-bet to 200,000 in the cutoff. Reskallah used one time bank and moved all in, Beresford folded instantly.

The very next hand, Mosele raised 65,000 first to act and Reskallah called out of the big blind. Reskallah checked the {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, as did Mosele and the former check-called a bet of 60,000 on the {5-Hearts} turn.

After the {k-Spades} river, Reskallah checked once more and Mosele made it 175,000 to pick up a call. Mosele tabled the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for trips kings and that won the pot.

Riess Folds Big Against Chouity

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Viktor Katzenberger called on the button. Ryan Riess called {a-Spades}{3-Clubs} in the small blind and Nicolas Chouity checked his option with {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, taking three players to the flop.

Riess flopped big with trips on a {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} board but with no action, they went on to the turn. Again there was no betting when the {j-Diamonds} came down and the last card was a {2-Diamonds}, giving Chouity a flush.

Riess chose to lead at this point, making it 90,000 and Chouity moved all in for 510,000. Katzenberger stepped aside and it was back to Riess who after a brief time in the tank, found a fold.

Wiktor Malinowski

Nicola Grieco limped in from under the gun, Aladin Reskallah limped along in the cutoff and Conor Beresford completed the small blind. Wiktor Malinowski shoved all in from the big blind and netted three folds to rise to 920,000.

The next hand, Beresford made it 75,000 on the button, Malinowski three-bet shoved from the small blind and Beresford called.

Wiktor Malinowski: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Conor Beresford: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Malinowski's small pair stayed ahead on {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and "limitless" scored a sizable double-up.

Metaal Takes a Pot

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Sam Greenwood had {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} on the cutoff and he opened to 60,000. Wei Huang flatted on the button and Govert Metaal came along from the big blind with {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

It was a {4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop and Metaal checked, Greenwood continued for 55,000 and after Huang passed, Metaal called.

The turn filled up Metaal's hand with an {8-Spades} dealt. The action went check-check and the dealer laid a {3-Diamonds} on the river. Metaal lead for 100,000 at this point but with only jack-high, Greenwood folded.

The World According to Boutros Naim

Niveau 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Boutros Naim
Boutros Naim

Boutros Pierre Naim is a man of will.

The Lebanese-born, poker-playing Monaco resident — and PokerStars qualifier to the EPT Main Event this week — once quit his investment banking job on a whim because his company moved offices from one part of London to another. It increased his commuting time and Naim wouldn’t stand for it.

“For me,” he says, “this was basically a no-go.” So he moved to Monaco.

But when he was in his 60s and living in the principality, Naim found himself missing his son, who had moved to Massachusetts to attend Babson College. Naim decided to move nearby and applied to Harvard University — not to seek a degree but simply to take courses on subjects like economics, the history of the Ottoman Empire, and meta-ethics. He applied for admission through the same process as any other student, leading to some bureaucratic-themed amusement.
