€1,100 French National Championship

Jour 1a a débuté

Welcome to Day 1a of the €1,100 French National Championship in Monte-Carlo

Defending Champion Guillaume Diaz
Defending Champion Guillaume Diaz

The 2019 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour has kicked off with a beautiful view over the French Riviera and one of the festival highlights will get underway at 12 p.m. local time at The Monte-Carlo Sporting with Day 1a of the €1,100 French National Championship. Poker enthusiasts from near and far will take their seats in the Salle des Etoiles for the highly popular mid-stakes event that was formerly branded as the France Poker Series and EPT National.

A big field is expected throughout three starting days, as this very tournament attracted more than one thousand runners in each of the last three years. In 2018, a new record was with a massive field of 1,501 entries and it was French poker pro Guillaume Diaz that took home the title and top prize of €250,000. Also featured on the final back then were Federico Petruzzelli, Michal Mrakes, Abraham Passet, and Randy Lew.

Diaz will certainly be back in action again to defend his title, and he will face plenty of opponents from his home country France, along with Italy and many other European countries. However, Monte Carlo is also a very popular stop for international players and typically attracts some of the biggest names in poker to showcase their abilities at the table.

The €1,100 French National Championship will feature a total of three starting days on Friday, April 26th, 2019 and Saturday, April 27th, 2019 with a level duration of 40 minutes throughout. Players can enter a total of three times with re-entry to a following flight and receive 30,000 in chips. There will be a break every three levels and a dinner break of 75 minutes after the end of level nine.

The tournament features the popular big blind ante format and each Day 1 will play down to 15% of the field. All survivors will bag and tag for the night, combine to one field for Day 2 and all those coming back will have a portion of the prize pool locked up. The PokerNews team will be there to provide live updates throughout and until a champion is crowned.

Charette Among Early Entries

Niveau 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

The action started for all tables with at least three players on their tables and many of them were short-handed when the cards got in the air. Among the notables in their seat right away in level one were such familiar faces as Duff Charette, Aladin Reskallah, Parham Ahoor, Anatoly Korochenskiy, and Sergio Castelluccio.

Ahoor Loses a Small Pot

Niveau 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

With some 2,000 in the middle and the turn showing {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}, Parham Ahoor faced a bet of 2,000 by Adrian Smith and gave it some thought before letting go. The table of Ahoor started short-handed with Alisa Sibgatova also in contention already.

Ahoor has had a decent start into 2019 as he won a High Roller event in Barcelona not long ago after besting several big names on his road to victory.

Gaillard's Set Wins Healthy Pot

Jacqueline Gaillard
Jacqueline Gaillard

On a three-way flop of {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Jacqueline Gaillard check-raised from 500 to 1,500 out of the big blind and Thomas Sinsen on the button was the only caller. Gaillard bet the {a-Diamonds} turn for 2,000 to get called and another bet of 5,000 on the {7-Hearts} river resulted in a call, too. Gaillard turned over {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} for a set of jacks and Simsen mucked, mentioned in table chat he had {a-}{9-} and "pity it wasn't clubs."

The table also features Jose Astima and Jeremy Palvini, two well-known French players in the mid-stakes circuit.

Sefrioui Chips Up

Niveau 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

On a heads-up flop of {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} with 3,000 in the middle, the cutoff led for 1,800 and Kamal Sefrioui called from one seat over on the button. Neither the {k-Diamonds} turn nor the {k-Clubs} river brought any betting action and the cutoff rolled over {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for ace-queen high.#

Sefrioui had that beat with {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and dragged in the pot on a table with Ekrem Sanioglu.

Parmiggiani Takes From Alt

Niveau 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Leonardo Parmiggiani opened to 300 and Dinesh Alt in the cutoff made it 1,000 to go, which the Italian called. On a flop of {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}, Parmiggiani check-raised from 1,000 to 2,600 and Alt came along to see the board pair with the {7-Hearts} turn. Parmiggiani now made it 4,300 to go and Alt folded, but remains up for the day thus far.
