The EPT Sochi Main Event has attracted 692 entrants so far and with late registration open until the start of play today, expect that number to grow even further.
Today the players will combine with 271 already having locked up their places in the field after battling it out at the tables during one of the three starting flights.
However, with satellites still running last night there will still be the chance for players to jump into the fray before play gets underway at 12pm.
Leading the way is Aleksandr Denisov who has held the chip lead since topping the Day 1a field on Sunday. He amassed almost 500,000 and will be the man to beat once the cards are back in the air.
Here are the top three chip counts from each flight:
Day | Name | Country | Chip Count |
---|---|---|---|
1a | Aleksandr Denisov | Russia | 498,600 |
Illia Korobokin | Ukraine | 352,700 | |
Roman Gadzhiev | Russia | 240,900 | |
1b | Viktor Ustimov | Russia | 307,500 |
Serafim Kovalevskiy | Russia | 233,900 | |
Leonid Semenyuk | Russia | 195,200 | |
1c | Denis Sapozhnikov | Russia | 207,700 |
Sergey Chaban | Russia | 163,000 | |
Yang Wang | China | 153,300 |
As is to be expected, there are plenty of big names in the field, with defending champion Arseniy Karmatskiy grabbing a place in Day 2 late last night in Day 1c. He will start the day with 78,100 chips, which is a little over average.
Other notables include PSPC Champion Ramon Colillas (134,000), Yuriy Guliy (191,300), and 2018 EPT National Sochi champion Matous Houzvicek (118,000), Leonid Bilokur (64,200), Aditya Sushant (53,300), Kiryl Radzivonau (53,000).
Last year's runner-up Viktor Shegay (41,800), and 2019 EPT National Sochi champion Yury Masliankou (28,300), Denis Timofeev (21,600) and Kartik Ved (19,700) will all start the day with shorter stacks than they would have liked, but will look to have good starts to Day 2.
The plan for today is to play five 90-minute levels. There will be 20-minute breaks after Levels 11, 12 and 13 with a 30-minute break after Level 14.

It was a clash of premium hands, so it was no surprise that all the money went in preflop. Amir Shomron was the all in player and he had the best of it with against Oleg Pavlyuchuk's .
The flop was a low , which kept the aces out in front. The turn didn't change anything and a set for Shomron on the river locked it up.
