Mikita Badziakouski

Day 1 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2018 $25,000 3-Day High Roller has come to an end with 50 players moving on to Day 2.

The action kicked off at noon local time inside the Atlantis Resort on the beautiful Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The field grew all day capping off with 141 total entries. Each player was permitted one re-entry and 42 took advantage of the second chance.

When the dust settled, it was Mikita Badziakouski slightly out-chipping Nick Petrangelo for the top spot on the leaderboard. Badziakouski bagged 403,500 while Petrangelo carries forward a healthy 397,700.

Jonathan Jaffe (350,000), Ryan Mceathron (343,000) and PokerStars Team Pro Igor Kurganov (334,000) round out the top five while the likes of Jean-Noel Thorel (275,000), Ankush Mandavia (262,000), Steve O'Dwyer (231,500), and Isaac Haxton (227,100) will all carry sizeable stacks into Day 2.

Joining Kurganov on Day 2 are PokerStars Team Pros Daniel Negreanu (153,800), Andre Akkari (57,000), and Liv Boeree (52,000). Jeff Gross was in attendance but was one and done hitting the rail soon after the dinner break.

Ben Tollerene was the first player to fire both bullets and miss the target. Following in Tollerene's footsteps were Vladimir Troyanovskiy, Igor Yaroshevskyy, Ivan Luca, Ryan Riess, and Orpen Kisacikoglu among others.

Play resumes at noon local time on Saturday with another 10, 60-minute levels on the schedule. Registration does remain open until the clock starts on Day 2 so there are a few players that have another bullet in the barrel and some who did not show up for Day 1.

Petrangelo Races Against Riess

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

Richard Seymour opened to 4,000 on the button then Ryan Riess three-bet out of the small blind making it 13,800. Nick Petrangelo four-bet to 37,000 in the big blind and Seymour quickly folded. Riess five-bet jammed for around 100,000 and Petrangelo called.

Riess: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Petrangelo: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

A race for Riess' tournament life was underway and the dealer delivered a {4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{a-Spades}{j-Clubs}. One ace was enough to get the job done and Riess was sent to the rail for the second time.

Boeree Joins the Field

Liv Boeree & Igor Kurganov

Liv Boeree made an incredible deep run into Day 4 of the Main Event that wrapped up earlier today. Boeree still pocketed nearly $50,000 and eventually made her way over to hop into the High Roller. Luckily for her, she was given a seat directly beside her boyfriend, Igor Kurganov and is currently enjoying a relaxing massage.

Sylvain Loosli and Justin Bonomo have returned from the cashier for their second bullets while Vladimir Troyanovskiy blew through both of his bullets on Day 1.

Huge Cooler Between Mandavia and Yaroshevskyy

Niveau 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ankush Mandavia
Ankush Mandavia

Ankush Mandavia opened to 2,300 under the gun and Seth Davies called out of the small blind. Igor Yaroshevskyy sat in the big blind and three-bet to 9,000 getting looked up by just Mandavia.

A {2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop was spread and Yaroshevskyy bet 10,000. Mandavia just called. The {7-Clubs} hit the turn and Yaroshevskyy slowed down, check-calling a bet of 16,000 from Mandavia.

The {a-Hearts} completed the board and Yaroshevskyy led out with a bet of 25,000. Mandavia moved all in and Yaroshevskyy snap-called.

Mandavia tabled the {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} turning quads and a disgusted Yaroshevskyy threw his cards down and pushed his stack into the middle. Yaroshevskyy's {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} were revealed as the table let out a collective gasp.

After the stacks were cut down it was determined Mandavia's all-in was for 74,200 leaving Yaroshevskyy with about seven big blinds.

Badziakouski and Big Huni Play a Big Pot

Niveau 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

Faced with an open to 2,200, Mikita Badziakouski re-raised to 7,100 on the button. Chris Hunichen made a four-bet to 23,000 from the big blind and the action folded back to Badziakouski. The chip leader in the tournament shoved all in and put the pressure back 'Big Huni'.

"I usually never fold this hand," Hunichen said as he scratched his head. This time was no exception as Hunichen made the call and tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. He was currently in the lead against Badziakouski's {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, but the {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop changed all of that. The {2-Hearts} on the turn and the {4-Diamonds} on the river were of no help to Hunichen and that was his second and last bullet of the day.

Negreanu Busts Hunichen

Niveau 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Chris Hunichen in a previous event
Chris Hunichen in a previous event

There were about 10,000 chips already in the pot and the board read {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} when we got to the table. Daniel Negreanu was in the small blind and facing a decision for 10,000 from Chris Hunichen, who recently entered during the last break and was under the gun. Negreanu raised to 80,000 and Hunichen called to put himself at risk.

"It's gonna be a quick one," said Hunichen as he tabled his hand.

Hunichen: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Negreanu: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}

Negreanu found himself trailing Hunichen's top two pair, but when the {7-Diamonds} fell on the turn to pair the floor, he took the lead. Hunichen needed to improve on the river in order to survive, but the {J-Hearts} was no help to him, so Negreanu took the pot with aces up to send him to the rail.

Troyanovskiy's Turn to Make Quads

Niveau 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Vladimir Troyanovskiy
Vladimir Troyanovskiy

With around 3,000 in the pot and the flop reading {k-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}, three players checked to the {6-Diamonds} on the turn. Daniel Dvoress led out for 1,300 from the big blind and Vladimir Troyanovskiy raised to 3,800 in early position. Ben Heath called on the button and Dvoress came along as well.

The river double-paired the board with the {2-Diamonds} and Dvoress checked. Troyanovskiy made a sizeable bet of 11,300 which Heath called. Dvoress thought for his entire 30 seconds before announcing a fold. Troyanovskiy turned over {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for quad deuces and Heath was forced to muck his cards.

Engel Doubles Through Tollerene

Niveau 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Ari Engel in a previous event
Ari Engel in a previous event

Action folded to Ari Engel on the button and he raised to 600. Dimitar Danchev three-bet to 2,200 out of the small blind and Ben Tollerene then four-bet to 6,400 from the big blind. Engel went into the tank and used one time bank slip before he five-bet to 17,600. Danchev folded in short order, and after some consideration, Tollerene six-bet shoved, putting Engel to a decision for his stack. After doing a quick countdown of his remaining chips, Engel called to put himself at risk.

Tollerene: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Engel: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

A chop looked probable, but Engel picked up the nut-flush draw on the {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, and the {9-Clubs} on the turn gave him a lock on the pot. After the meaningless {J-Diamonds} fell on the river, the dealer pushed the pot Engel's way.

Tondeur Cracked by Perry

Sean Perry
Sean Perry

Roger Tondeur opened on the button and Sean Perry called in the small blind. The flop fanned out {3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Perry check-called a bet of 1,300. The {2-Spades} fell on the turn and Perry check-called a bet of 3,500 from Tondeur.

Things escalated quickly on the river when the {4-Clubs} completed the board. Perry checked, Tondeur fired 5,500, Perry raised to 22,500, and Tondeur slid the rest of his stack forward, not much more than the raise. Perry snapped tabling the {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and there was nothing Tondeur could have done, turning over the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.
