Get Ready For Day 2 of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event

Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari had a strong showing on Day 1b

After two starting days, a bumper field of 1,670 players has been trimmed down to about half its original size. 852 players will be back at noon local time to play the second day of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event in the packed Casino Barcelona. Late registration will be open up until the start of Day 2, and several more players are expected to take a shot at the already smashed €7 million guaranteed prize pool.

Leading the way is Spain's Jose Angel Latorre with 243,800 in chips. The 32-year old high-stakes Sit & Go specialist, who relocated to London to play in the shared liquidity player's pool on PokerStars, claimed the chip lead on Day 1b after a late-night surge. In close contention are Xavier Carriere (205,700), Vladimir Geshkenbein (200,000), Adalfar Morales Gamarra (192,900), and Usman Siddique (191,000).

A lot of notables are still left in the field, including Team PokerStars Pro's Andre Akkari (123,300), Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (57,700), Felipe Ramos (41,300), Jeff Gross (40,700), Jake Cody (22,000), and Marcin Horecki (15,300). Sebastian Malec, who won last year's EPT Barcelona Main Event, bagged 61,000 and is still in contention for another title bid.

Day 2 will feature six levels of 75-minutes each, with a 20-minute break after every two levels. The blinds will resume at 500/1,000 with a running ante of 100. Play will be suspended around 8:20 p.m. local time when chips will be bagged and tagged for the night. Follow PokerNews throughout the day for all the updates from the vibrant Spanish city.
