Charette Makes a Misread, Busts Before Break

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Simon Charette
Simon Charette

Simon Charette was in the small blind with a pot of 5,650 built up preflop between he and Osvaldo Lewis, who occupied the cutoff. After Lewis called over the floorperson to verify something in Spanish, he moved all in for approximately 30,000 when Charette checked the {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop. The Canadian seemed pained and thought a couple of minutes until just before the break began, then he called off his stack.

"I'm just drawing," he said, turning over {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

Lewis tabled {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}.

"Wow, totally misread him," Charette said.

The turn and river were bricks: {2-Diamonds} and {q-Spades}. Charette's stack was just under the 31,000 held by Lewis, and he headed for the exits.

Players are on break for 20 minutes.

Ortiz, Hallaert Fight Another Round

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Kenny Hallaert bet 1,500 into a 2,000 pot from middle position with the board reading {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Tito Ortiz thought awhile and called on the button, and a {q-Hearts} arrived to make four to a straight. Hallaert bet 2,000 this time, and Ortiz responded with a raise to 4,000. Hallaert called pretty quickly but didn't look thrilled about it.

Ortiz showed {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for kings and queens, but Hallaert had {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for trips and then a straight on the end.

Lopes Bests Kaverman

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Brazil's Gustavo De Faria Lopes raised to 400 from the cutoff and the player in the cutoff called. Byron Kaverman came along from the big blind and three players saw a flop of {4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

Kaverman checked, Lopes continued for 500, and the player in the cutoff called. Kaverman then check-raised to 1,700, Lopes called, and the third player got out of the way.

Both players proceeded to check the {4-Spades} turn and then Kaverman checked the {10-Spades} river. Lopes bet 2,800 and Kaverman thought long and hard before making the call.

Lopes rolled over the {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for two pair, and that was good as Kaverman sent his cards to the muck.

Lokesh Garg Scoops a Big One

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With about 2,750 in the pot already, on a board reading {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, Tito Ortiz led out for 500 from the small blind.

Lokesh Garg was under the gun and called, as did Kenny Hallaert from the cutoff.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds}. Ortiz and Garg both checked to Hallaert who bet 2,000. Ortiz called, and Garg thought about it for a moment before calling also.

The river was the {j-Spades}. Ortiz wasted no time and reached into his stack, firing out a bet of 5,000. Garg quickly called and Hallaert got out of the way.

Ortiz held his cards up in front of him, reluctant to table them, while Garg immediately showed {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for a pair of jacks. Ortiz saw what he was up against and opted to muck his hand, sending a mountain of chips Garg's way.

An Orbit w/ UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Tito Ortiz at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas
Tito Ortiz at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas

Back in January, Tito Ortiz retired from his storied MMA career after his first-round finish of Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170. Today, Ortiz is sporting a t-shirt remembering that day with #FinalFight.

Not everyone can go a full round with the MMA legend, but we just did. We spent one orbit observing Ortiz, who was sitting with 43,000 seven handed.

Hand #1 (Button): Paul Newey raised to 400 from middle position and Ortiz called. Lokesh Garg came along from the big blind and three players took a flop of {7-Clubs}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Both Garg and Newey checked, and that prompted Ortiz to bet 1,000. Only Newey called and the both players checked the {4-Hearts} turn.

When the {J-Hearts} completed the board on the river, action again went check-check and Ortiz tabled the {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a pair of queens. It was no good though as Newey had aces with his {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

Hand #2 (Cutoff): Ortiz raised to 300 and Lokesh called from the small blind. Luke Graham came along from the big and it was three-way action to the flop, which came down {2-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

Two checks opened the door for Ortiz to continue for 500, and only Lokesh called to see the {K-Spades} turn. Both players checked and then Lokesh check-folded to a bet of 2,000 on the {8-Clubs} river.

Hand #3 (Hijack): A player in early position raised to 400 and Ortiz folded.

Hand #4 (Lojack): Action folded to Ortiz and he released his hand.

Hand #5 (Under the Gun): Ortiz folded.

Hand 6 (Big Blind): The player in the hijack raised to 300, Jose Da Silva Paulo Demeyere called from the small blind, and Ortiz folded from the big.

Hand #7 (Small Blind): Newey raised to 400 from the hijack and Ortiz folded.

Big One for Haxton

Niveau 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Isaac Haxton was in the small blind and bet 4,000, more than the size of the pot on a board of {3-Spades}{k-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. His under-the-gun opponent cut out the chips, thought awhile and tossed them in with a flourish. Haxton took awhile before firing 10,000 more on the {a-Clubs} river and got a snap-call.

Haxton showed pocket threes for a set and scooped the pot with a boat.
