Tang Busts Kolonias

Niveau 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded around to Deven Tang on the button and he made it 25,000 to go and small blind Alexandros Kolonias moved his remaining chips into the middle of the table.

“How much?” quizzed Tang.

“110,000,” replied Kolonias.

“Ok,” said Tang tossing in a single calling chip and the cards were turned over.

Alexandros Kolonias: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Devan Tang: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

While Tang had Kolonias covered the Greek player had the dominating hand and remained in front all the way until the river when disaster struck after the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} and Tang spiked his ten on the river to bring Kolonias’ tournament to a close.

A disgruntled looking Kolonias headed for the rail while Tang gave the dealer a high five.

“Wait,’ piped up tablemate Salman Behbehani, “Isn’t that the same dealer who got you there with jack-ten yesterday against my queens?”

Tang nodded the affirmative with a grin that would put a Cheshire cat to shame as he stacked up to 475,000.

Badziakouski and Sonheimer Battle

Niveau 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Both Steffen Sontheimer and Mikita Badziakouski are deep stacked and the pair have been battling it out over several pots for the last few levels and we caught them both at it again midway through level 12.

Sontheimer was the initial protagonist, making it 27,000 to go from middle position with the neighbouring Badziakouski re-raising to 82,000 in total.

Action folded back around to Sontheimer who gave the Belerusian player a sceptical stare.

“Again?” quizzed Sontheimer.

Badziakouski slid on his sunglasses and said nothing as Sonteheimer slid in the call, checking the {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop over to the Belarusian.

Badziakouski led out for 50,000 and Sontheimer stared him down for a good minute or so before cracking a smile and flashing {q-Spades}{j-Spades} and folding.

“Wrong color,” quipped the German. Badziakouski didn’t show and climbed to 1.4 million while Sontheimer dropped to 860,000.

Dwan Shoves on Trickett Before Break

Niveau 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Tom Dwan
Tom Dwan

Tom Dwan is back up over starting stack after winning a pot from Sam Trickett, all without a flop being dealt.

While we missed the opening salvo is was Trickett who was the initial aggressor, opening in the action with a raise from the cut off with Dwan re-raising from the big blind. The British player then three-bet and Dwan moved all-in for another 150,000 on top of what Trickett had bet.

The pot was a sizable 150,000 by the time we arrived, not including Dwan’s all-in, and Trickett was trying to crunch the numbers.

“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do here,” said Trickett after tanking for a good few minutes, “at least in a tournament anyway.”

Trickett eventually folded and immediately started discussing the hand with Dwan and tablemate Daniel Cates, with the British pro stating he had ‘a good nine-high’.

The three were still discussing the merits of calling versus folding as we walked away, with Dwan climbing to 280,000 after the hand and Trickett dropping to 530,000 after that little misadventure.

O’Dwyer and Aldermir Bust; Stack Check

Niveau 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

The field is now thinning out with both Steve O’Dwyer and Koray Aldemir departing in a flurry of cards and chips. O’Dwyer became the first official casualty after getting all the chips in pre-flop with ace-king and found himself racing for his tournament life against the pocket fours of Wang Qiang.

Unfortunately for O’Dwyer he was unable to pair his ace or king and fell at the hands of Qiang for the second time today, though with the re-entry period now over, this will be the last time as well, at least for this particular tournament.

We caught Aldemir’s exit after arriving at the tail end of a hand between the defending champion and Dan Cates. We picked up the action on the river with the community cards spread {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} just as Aldemir moved all-in for his last 130,000 into an already sizable pot.

Cates called instantly and while Aldemir turned over {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the flush this was not enough to beat Cate’s turned boat as the US player was holding {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Aldemir headed for the rail while Cates stacked up to 905,000.

Re-entry Over

Niveau 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

The start of level 11 means the re-entry period is now over so any players busting from this point onwards will be out for good, with no second (or third chances).

Niveau: 11

Blinds: 5,000/10,000

Ante: 1,000

Nitsche Doubles Through Kolonias, Qiang Pulls Further in Front

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The number of re-entries has now increased to 52 with 29 players still in the running. Gabe Patgorski is one of the newcomers, the US player entering for the first time and Steve O’Dwyer has chosen to fire a third bullet.

Tom Dwan has yet to get anything going and his 250,000 start stack has dwindled to 125,000 though we have yet to catch him in action.

Two players who we did though were Alexandros Kolonias and Dominik Nitsche. It was Kolonias who was the initial aggressor, making it 18,000 to go from the button and Nitsche (big blind0 moved all-in for 176,000 in total.

Kolonias thought it over for a minute or so but made the call and the cards were turned over.

Dominik Nitsche: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Alexandros Kolonias: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Nitsche was the at-risk player but had the best hand and both players caught a piece of the {6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop. The {4-Diamonds} turn kept Nitsche’s nose in front and the {a-Diamonds} river saw the German player lock in the double and climb to 352,000 while Kolonias dropped to 105,000.

Chip leader Wang Qiang is continuing to amass chips and we caught the Chinese player involved in a hand against Montenegro’s Predrag Lekovic, picking up the action on the turn with over 100,000 in blinds and antes in the pot and the community cards spread {j-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

First to act, Lekovic led for 55,000 and Qiang chewed over the decision for a little while before making the call. The {j-Diamonds} river paired the board and brought a quick check from Lekovic and after thinking for a few seconds Qiang checked it back.

Lekovic rolled over {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} for ace-high, which was not enough to best Qiang’s {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and the Chinese player scooped another, climbing to over 2 million in chips while Lekovic dropped to 340,000.
